  • For as long as there have been banks, there have been more than enough people happy enough to rob them.
In this episode of The Business of Crime, VICE World News looks into the world of bank heists - how to pull them off, why they often fail and how enterprising criminals are using advances in tech to take this old school form of robbery online.
From hackers to old school heists, we find out how bank robbery is done around the world and look at the motivations and mistakes of the robbers themselves.

I worked for a company last year as a armed vault gaurd. What people don’t know is that banks are just the pawns. That’s why the security there is terrible. The money goes somewhere else. That’s where I worked at, at this unmarked building and there is a vault. This thing is big enough to hold almost 1 billion dollars. Many bank robbers don’t know that they bills they get are rigged. Meaning they have balls of paint . Now If people want to rob a bank it would be from the inside. The most money I have ever seen in my face was around 746,500,000 million dollars. That’s including diamonds, gold, “important documents”.

In Britain There was a robbery where they used skill and secrecy, But were later Found by their mobile phones Because they were in that exact area at that exact time. Hatton Gardens Heist.
In Brazil there was a robbery where a whole group used bombs, Machine guns, And near enough War tactics and got away with loads.
Also the Pink Panthers or Black panther diamond robbers sound interesting apparently they are very clued up, The rest are just rubbish, Apart from the odd Irish Bank robbers that use diggers and some Military tactics, But they get away as the police technology is not that great, And they always disapear into the crowd of people or countryside.

If I were robbing a bank, I'd bring a police scanner with me and announce to everyone that if anyone trips the silent alarm, I'll hear it on this. I'd only go to the registers, not the vault, be in and out in 90 seconds, the getaway vehicle would be a dirt bike so it can go where cars can't, and I'd have a box truck with a ramp waiting at a predetermined location and ride the dirt bike up the ramp and into the box truck. Also, I'd wear a fat suit and have fake, obvious tattoos on my neck that I'd wash off later.

There's currently a duo on a spree in my area. So far 6 banks, an 'undisclosed' amount of money, no injuries or discharges or weapons. Have a grudging respect for them as they've left not a single identifying clue for authorities. Just a generic description of 'black males, black hoodies, black masks, black pants, black shoes'. No vehicle description, no clues at all. I get that there's always a price for the victims, and yeah that's shitty. But to be successful repetitively, get away cleanly, leave no useable clues, and not cause physical harm; have to give them some credit.
