@@jim8252 I think because it flew to Washington D.C. , I tdidn't carry much fuel. It was near empty so it could do this kind of stunt. If it were to fly 7500 nautical miles with full tank of duel, it wouldn't have been able to do this.
When I was a kid, me my mother and sister landed in Bermuda in a old D.C. 8 after flying through a storm in the night. I was a sleep through the whole event.
Back in those days, the speed limit was 15 miles per hour and are water came from the rain when we ran out of water, the British would have to bring us water from a water truck. There was no under ground pipes at all. When we finally left, we flew out of Bermuda in a Boeing 707. The Boeing 707 was a very new plane at that time.

I think this use to be Kindly Air Force Base.And if so, all I remember is that there was a lot of B-29's.
