- The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with Vince Gill at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee on September 14, 2015 with founding members Jeff Hanna and Jimmie Fadden plus Bob Carpenter and John McEuen. They are joined by Sam Bush on mandolin, Jerry Douglas on dobro and Byron House on bass. Taped for PBS to be aired next March 2016.
Any song Vince Gill sings and plays is a gift.
Honoring Doc Watson. My brother loved Doc. When brother passed, looking at some pics, he was standing beside a album cover of Doc’ s Religious Songs. We played two of them at his funeral
Raised my kids on Nitty Gritty Dirt Band albums. It was so great in 2012 when we were able to take our oldest son to see NGDB, he loves them so much!
Learned this one off the Circle album but really enjoyed watching this video with Vince and company.
Having seen Doc Watson many times over the years, the first time was the craziest!!!! Winter of 78/79 in the attic of a big farmhouse turned into a music venue called "Harry Hopes" in Cary, Illinois!!! So, a Jimmy Driftwood song sung by Doc Watson, was the 1st bluegrass song I played on guitar!!!
Great post. Top notch musicians
Always a fan of y’all!♥️🌟👋
Vince must hold some sort of record for musical collaborations. Just saw him in concert at The Oregon State Fair on 9-1-15 and here he is 2 weeks later playing with this group of living legends. Still remember my first Nitty Gritty Dirt Band concert and wondering where the harmonica sound was coming from. Didn't expect it to be in the mouth of drummer Jimmie Fadden.
+lvsrlmsc No kidding. I can't think of another famous band's drummer multi-tasking like this in concert.
+lvsrlmsc Great reference. His live performance of "Carolina In The Pines" is one of my top ten favorite YT videos.
Someday he might catch Emmylou in the number of collaborations if he tries a little harder.
My cousin Jimmy Driftwood wrote that song. :)
I loved Jimmy Driftwood in the 1960s.
Love his recording of it
Love this song frim my childhood. Haven't heard it in years. Love it. Sincerely
I was his soundman in Mt View Arkansas, 1970-1972. At the courthouse.
doc watson best version of this song
I was there....5:00 am Tousee's was closed. Guess my timing is bad.
In was in the Persian Gulf...Tennesee stud
Check out Billy Strings version of this!
Nick Lang Oh man! I’m kinda digging this version!
Agreed! Billy absolutely kills it, he’s got a great voice and his picking is second to none. I really like that’s it’s just him alone with his guitar. For the life of me I can’t understand why Billy isn’t more we’ll known.
Check ot Mike Auldridge version!
I’m sorry but can’t take hearing Tennessee Stud by anyone other than Doc Watson.
They're just not the same without Jimmy Ibbotson
Very true
Didn't like what they did with this classic at all. He's no Doc Watson. He didn't even credit Jimmie Driftwood.
This song is a total lie. What's this "There never was a horse like the Tennessee Stud" nonsense? What about Secretariat? Huh?
Hank jr did it best🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
