Recording is one of the essential elements in narration. Of course you have to be a story-teller and perform the book, but if you’re not properly set up with a recording system, then you as a narrator can never get discovered.
There are tons of paid audio recording platforms out there, but if you’re on a Mac (Apple), there is a free piece of gear you don’t want to look over. GarageBand is Apple's free recording, editing and full audio production tool that can be powerful, if you use it right and learn the basics of how it performs.
In this episode I’m going to break down a simple system you can use with GarageBand as part of your narration career. We will get your file management process ready to go and build our GarageBand session correctly so you can start narrating right away.

This was a great series for me. I had a book I wanted to narrate but had never used Garageband. In one day (not five :)), I learned to use it and start recording my book. This series literally took me from having equipment but no idea how to use it to a specific plan on how to record and edit my book. Highly recommend!

Why no compression or eq?
You can use EQ and compression in the mastering phase if you’re working through ACX, but for publishers, you’ll always be sending raw, unprocessed audio.
