you really don't have to be Japanese to love and enjoy Shogun, millions of people worldwide love this brilliant show and most of us don't understand Japanese.

I read the book Shogun some forty-five years ago. It was one of the best novels I have ever read, and the series was cream of the crop! I am so happy for the recognition it's received, and all the nominations as well as awards are well deserved. It just wonderful! AND Hiro has always been one of my favorite artists ever! Congratulations to all involved. Well done! Well done!
while watching this incredibly well made show i was constantly distracted by the fabric of those most amazing gowns, sure these days they are made by machines but can you imagine the time and craftsmanship that went into these gowns made by hand hundreds of years ago? amazing!!!!
What makes you think that does not happen now? If you mean the gowns at the awards they are made by hand. That is what couture is about. Hand made by the designers and their craftspeople. Borrowed for the night.
A lot of fabric is still made by hand ... on looms. Not everything is made on machines just because we are in the modern age and fast fashion is mass produced. There are still artisans doing the work to create kimonos. There are still artisans who are working by hand on couture. All you have to do is watch any Business Insider video on TH-cam about lace production or how kiminos are made.
@@michaelrmurphy2734 He means the kimonos in the show; the patterns and colours are really intricate and he's right, it's amazing to think that people made those by hand back in the day
Its wild i choose to read this book in a high school class during class! I totally forgot about it. And now all of sudden people love it and there's a show.
They were worried about 70% japanese language with subs . Man a lot of people of this gen are into anime already and its 100% japanese with subtitles 😅
Some ppl be insane in the comment section 😂 This Japanese wrote “why is Anna always standing so close to Hiro?” And someone replied “she doesn’t have a Japanese mind and is being rude in the interviews after finishing shooting this show so Hiro must be confused “ Like, what the fuck ? 😂 Don’t care but if that’s true, she’s a amazing actress 🙌🏻lol
I get that celebrities have a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship with the entertainment media but I do not know how they put up with the phoniness. It is patently obvious that this interviewer did no background research on these people or on Shogun and she is totally winging it asking rote contrived remedial questions like “how did you feel about this” or “what was it like when you did this” without doing any due diligence whatsoever. Entertainment reporters rarely go to journalism school, many of them are art history majors or failed actors or actresses who don’t get roles so they get paid covering Hollywood via amateur tabloid journalism.
Japan ent only care about certain idol agencies and idol like actors actress, avex mostly only care about the boys, so not weird that the talented artist like hiro and anna went outside japan, and they should start producing smth like their counterpart (korea) that could go global with their local produce movies/series (smth that not limited in "best foreign movie" category), japan got the talent but I read comments from J-netz under shogun related vids that the japan tv company didnt even give budgets and too much idol being casted, and most drama got cringe story, but tbh their drama slowly rising through ott platform like N (maybe coz the budget given by the platform also different from local tv company), though still not much could be said great shows, but some series got higher standard than the ones produced by local tv
it really depends, while it's true that the japanese entertainment industry spend alot less money on their production budgets. But there are alot of very good quality Japanese productions produced in japan also, the network NHK are famous in Japan for making good quality period dramas similar to Shogun (though with smaller budgets), and there are many talented Japanese actors. I Like any country, Japan makes good quality shows and movies, but they also have their share of bad ones too. It really depends on what you watch.
not true, Shogun is also popular in Japan and has been very well received there, there are alot of media coverage of Shogun and the cast, especially after it won so many Emmys.
FIRST THEY SUCKED UP TO THE KOREAN ALLIES< NOW TO THE JAPANESE. NOT SAYING IT'S NOT DESERVED; I LOVE BOTH KOREAN AND JAPANESE SERIES AND MOVIES, BUT THIS IS DEFS POLITICS TOO!!!
Creators? Really? James Clavell Created, SHOGUN, with his 1975 Novel, SHOGUN! The NBC Mini-series, James Clavell's SHOGUN (1980) was also Created by James Clavell! The recent SHOGUN, Plot and Characters, was also CREATED BY JAMES CLAVELL! The two folks on the left of the screen look guilty as sin.
No we should appreciate the joint efforts made by the whole American Japanese team. The original scripts based on the James Clavell’s novel were written in English by the Asian American team, then thejr scripts were sent to Tokyo and translated by an excellent team of translators. From there, it was sent to a Japanese playwright who specializes in Jidaigeki writing (Japanese period drama) and the playwright put a literary touch to it. Then the Japanese producers, Eriko Miyagawa and Hiroyuki Sanada oversaw that moment between taking it from the playwright and giving it to the actors to perform. Sanada even asked and changed the scripts when he found factual or cultural errors. The whole team’s amazing passion and dedication to create authenticity brought prizes to them!! 🎉 Congratulations!
@@CoccolinaI. I watched the latest mini-series, SHOGUN, Created by James Clavell, and enjoyed it immensely. I have lived in Japan. I appreciate the quality of the fine work by all of the talented people that you mentioned above. My distinction is the use of the word, "Creator." For example, Lew Wallace wrote the novel, Ben-Hur, A Tale of the Christ, that was published in 1880. So far, "Ben-Hur was once one of Hollywood's most reliable chariot-pullers, with no fewer than five film adaptations since 1907 - two are preserved in the US Library of Congress." Of all the wonderful, talented people that contributed to the most recent TV mini-series of SHOGUN, NONE OF THEM with with James Clavell when he was alone in his room with a blank piece of paper and began writing the ORIGINAL notes of the story forming in his mind, about the historically famous Englishman, William Adams, English navigator, who in 1600 managed to gain the trust of Tokugawa Ieyasu, a powerful warlord who became a shogun CREATOR is defined as a person who 'Creates' a new, original thing, or idea. In recent times, that Word is often misused by people who might take bread, peanut butter and jelly, and claim to have Created a sandwich; but in reality, they merely combined common things that were already in existence and readily available. Respectfully, your final sentence is misleading. The authentic sights and places in British Columbia where the recent Shogun was filmed already existed. Custom designers on movie projects use current fabrics to copy historical clothing already available to copy from museums and books. Best Wishes, to You!
Anna Sawai is Outstanding

Lady needs to work on her catch phrases lol. we get it there was some sweeping done
Anna: "I had never done a 時代劇" lol that one slipped out in Japanese eh?
Japan need to start appreciate ppl who working outside the country, in japan it's seems like nobody know or even care about this whole stuff.

Those purple bloomers are a disaster.
The way Westerners pronounce "Shogun" as sho-🔫 is annoying.
