That looks very nice and neat Jamie.
I've wired everything from beef and pork packing plants to the solar powered electric fence in my horse pasture. My nephew got a small solar panel, (I don't know why), and wandered as he unboxed it, if it worked right away. I'll just say it was a jolting experience for him.

Doc, just a little bit of bad news. My best little four legged friend, Babs, who appeared in some of the Videos died suddenly last week. I'll be a bit quiet on the video front for a few weeks. Jamie

@@campervancreations7656 Sorry to hear that. We lost our old horse a few weeks ago so we know how it is. Take care my friend.

Great demo! Thanks for the details on mounting the panels. This part is holding me up. I bought the thin flexible panels now stuck on how to mount them. I will not glue them on roof

Flexible panels are less reliable and are prove to degrading over a much shorter time than rigid ones. Honestly if you could sell then and buy full sized panels would be the best option, otherwise buy some hard plastic sheet in HD or lowes and glue the panels to it. Then you could use bracket to mount the solar bracket to the roof. Jamie

@@campervancreations7656 Yes, you are right. No one told me this when I bought them even though I asked all the questions. The light weight drew me in. I thought I would use some lexan coroplast and glue them on then mount with brackets. I also did not know that larger solar panels were more efficient and of course, less mounting holes. I might do what you suggested though and just get the glass panels. Many thanks!

Hi, great channel, really informative! I'm looking to add a solar, mostly just for keeping batteries topped up when not is use but I also use a Victron smart charger when on hook-up/generator. Any idea if having solar will mess with the smart charging of the 240v charger? I'm not understanding how they don't interfere with each other. Thanks.

If you use a victron solar charge controller(mttp) or any other MTTP solar charge controller for that matter, it automatically adjusts the solar charge depending on the batteries need for charge. For example, if the battery charger is supplying charge and the solar controller is supplying charge, they will both adjust the amount they supply based on what the other is doing. In simple terms, connect them both as directed and forget about them. No issues at all. I would suggest the victron MTTP that I used and it has a handy bluetooth connection to monitor the state of the charge. Hope this helps, Jamie

Always wondered is it worth putting solar on a van? You have an alternator on the van, if batteries are low, just switch on for a bit, charge the battery and switch of again. Wonder is solar worth the cost?

Couple of options, battery to battery charger will automatically charge the leisure battery with switching anything off.
Great thing about Solar is that its always charging, particularly over the winter where the vehicle may not be getting as much use and the battery will self discharge over time. You can get small solar panel and cheap Mppt controller for this purpose and then decide in the future if the additional expense is worth it for daily use to keep the batteries charging. Jamie

@@campervancreations7656 Jamie, will the solar charge the van starter battery? Would be interesting to see without solar how much you would have to run the van to charge the leisure battery, on an average week long trip and do a cost benefit exercise. Martin

The B2B charger prevents the leisure array from draining the starting battery lower than its starting ability. So unless the vehicle battery is faulty there should be no need.
Fridge is plugged in the last 4 days and no external charge connected and the B2B charger is disconnected. Mixed weather and everything is fully charged. Note fridge is empty so no thermal mass in the fridge keeping it cold, longer so it's really working hard. You can spend 100 on a basic system or 500 an up to 1500 if you wanted a top of the range system installed by professionals.
Cost/benefit is never having to worry about power.
      Solar panel =300,
      MPPT controller =200
Never having to worry about power=priceless
      Jamie
