The third outfit reminds me of Phoebe Buffay. you shoud made a video dressing like your favourite TV/film characters, I think you own a lot of items you could use to recreate 90s/00s film outfits.
@@susanmarielassiter6670 😊Yes, def Stevie Nicks🎶. It's likely a generational thing. My older sibling loved her, but I was a fairweather fan. I certainly liked her music from listening through the walls or on the radio📻, but I didn't become aware of her fashion style until well into adulthood. 🖱Clicked on a fashion article yesterday about Preppy Fashion. The author's primary example was the Gossip Girls. No mention of Ralph Lauren, the Bratpack, or Cher in Clueless. How about Ali McGraw from Love Story in her Edgy Blue Collar Ivy League!? Preppy Style has been around since the existence of prep schools. Edgy fashion from the 1940s when women wore menswear & went into factories. Elvis & James Dean personified rebellion in the 50s & so on. 🔄 Styles are simply regurgitated & freshened from the past. I guess the fashion influencers covering such things want to choose relatable & familiar style icons to the latest generation. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
I haven't really seen this on tiktok but have heard of the 7 point method before and my understanding of the 7 points system was that some items that are more of a statement are worth 2 points and simpler items are worth 1, so you aren't necessarily putting together 7 individual items every time. For example I think the sparkly cardigan you wore with the black maxi dress would be 2 points not 1.
Ooooh! That may be the original idea and I had just come across a different version! I could definitely see maybe that making more sense since it's then not just about adding a bunch of accessories every time! I'll have to look into it!
I definitely think "rules"/"systems"/"hacks" are about what helps you be more creative and feel better, if you're struggling or need a refresh - someone might need a reminder to do more/accessorize and someone else might need to pare down their instincts to get an outfit that feels better to them in the long run. I kinda like how the point system can help someone find a happy medium as opposed to too boring or too much, so it would help a lot of people, esp if they like to work within a formula/stricter rules.
I love all the outfits with added stuff! The originals are nice and look good, but they are a bit boring. I wouldn't look twice if you walked past me in those, but with the new outfits I would do a double take and be like wow that is stylish. Sometimes I feel like 6 points would be enough too (like the second outfit without the belt and jacket or the third without the cardigan). I feel like always trying to hit 7 points can be too much, so maybe a good rule of thumb is maybe adding one more thing than you would usually go for!
I would love to see this in action in the hot summer. I feel like layering is my crutch. I look great layering in fall and winter and look boring and ugh in summer when it’s too hot to layer.
This is very useful for me because I was thinking of upping my accessory game for some time, and I didn't quite know where to start. I agree with you that the point system can get too mechanistic very quickly, but I guess that the nice thing about it is that it motivates you to consider adding extra elements to your outfits instead of just going with basics. And from there you can start to experiment and get creative, and hopefully not get too caught up on the points :)
With the jeans and the plaid burgundy shirt, I’d totally wear a burgundy slouchy beanie for that kind of laid back almost masculine look. I love it with a side hobo bag.😊
You're really looking like a 90s icon in this video! I suck at accessorizing and i'm not on tiktok so i appreciate you bringing knowledge to the masses like this. I do like the basic looks but the accessorized versions are nice! I think a median would be best in all cases, like the velvet maxi dress with just the necklaces i think would have been my optimal version of that outfit. but it's really useful to think about needing to add accessories to force yourself to practice and i should try it!
I liked the first outfit (jeans and denim shirt) better with the shirt open, the belt, and the necklaces. I like all three versions of the second outfit although I'd skip the headband. The cardigan with it is great. Outfit 3 looks better with the accessories, in my opinion. The seven point system is just slightly different that what I do: 1) base (dress, jumpsuit, or pants and top), 2) completer piece (cardigan, vest, jacket), 3) accessories (shoes, belt, scarf, hat, jewelry), and one of them needs to be 4) a focal point. It works and provides lots of variety in outfits.
I liked all the variations, even if I tend to keep it basic in everyday life 😊 In my opinion, make-up also makes a big difference. If you look at typical French outfits, for example, red lipstick is often part of it. In that case, you could certainly count the lipstick as a point.
I've never heard of this method but now I want to try it out, I really liked your 'simple' outfits but adding points definitely elevated them! bonus points for kind of making a dutch flag with your second outfit 😉
Imo it's about personal prefference. Personally I like the simpler outfits more. I do think I could follow a system like this if jackets and button ups and hairclips count. It's nice if it lets people play around and be creative. I hope people keep in mind that it's more of a helpful system and nor a rule book.
Hey Alexa where did you find those black jeans??? they’re exactly what i’ve been looking for! and that Phoebe Buffay maxi sweater outfit made me audibly gasp, we NEED to see you wear it again and again🖤💜💙
i love this video and i do think there is something to this method of 'trying to add more things'. On the other hand, as you said yourself in the conclusion, I can imagine an outfit being ruined because you have 'put on too much'. Honestly would have loved to see an example of this in your video, I think it would have added a lot of context to it!
I preferred all of the outfits you made before using the 7 point method... they looked more like *you* and the 7 point outfits looked more *internet* to me
It’s a fun idea to play around with! What about statement makeup? Like is a bold lips point? More recently I’ve played with scarves, bandanas, broaches/pins, and ties as more accessory options. I also think some things might be more than 1 pt which another commenter said since some things have more visual ‘weight’, like an all denim suit or a sparkly cardigan, but the utility of the points is in the playing around and asking ‘what if?’ And I love that you shared it with us !
Idk if it's just me but truly who owns this many accessories? Like content creators yeah that makes sense but regular people...I feel like can't do this unless you have an excess of accessories
My formula for the outfit at 10:00 would be tights, tall boots, skirt, collared blouse, boxy cropped sweater vest, bag. As it is, it reminds me of a 10-year-old. I never liked socks with tights and I am heartily sick of it now. Just my opinion as an old Gen Xer!!
I definitely thought the outfits with the added items looked more interesting and intentional. I had never heard of this point system before, so thanks for the informative video!
I believe the adding to your Jean dress was too much. The others were okay. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I appreciate your enthusiasm for each outfit.
Did you have to get special tights for your tabi shoes or were you able to wear regular tights with those shoes? I loved all the outfits and I actually like both the before and after. I’ve never heard of this method but I’m definitely going to use it now!
I haven't found any tabi tights yet in my foot size (most of them I see stop at a size 8 and I'm a 9.5) so honestly I never go out of the house with normal tights with tabis because it hurts my toes to pull back the tights with them, but it does look so cute 😭 I do own specifically white tabis socks from amazon though, again I haven't found any other colors and design socks in my size.
I think adding ‘points’ adds character, but this would be very difficult in the summer when all I want to wear is a light dress and sandals and maybe a necklace and earrings and that’s it because of the heat.
That outfit at 7:22 is so good on you. I would still count my watch, earrings etc. Even if you wear them every day, and they seem default and not style points to you, they are 'new' to the people who see you. On the other hand I wouldn't count socks unless they show when I'm standing up. Most of the time my socks don't show, so they are just like underwear and bra.
I’ve been religiously watching your content since before you hit 100K. Love your videos, even now as a trans masc person, I still get a lot out of your fashion and thrifting videos!
I like both the befores and the afters. At first I leaned more towards the afters because they look really put together, but I think wearing too many things can look a little overwhelming or like I’m trying too hard sometimes, and the befores can look more effortless. So I think I lean more towards the befores Edit: now that I’ve watched the whole video, I think I liked the afters more overall 😂😂😂
the patchwork cardigan made layering the white turtleneck and red tights under the denim dress look more cohesive. less is more for me too (mostly bec i'm lazy), but styling / accessorising def made a huge difference! the witchy 90s look is my fave :)
I like all the outfits but the added item do make all of them more interesting! I wear pretty basic outfits myself so I might have to try this method 👀 also, that velvet dress is gorgeous, does anyone know the brand? 🫢
I love the simplicity of the original styles, but adding the other items really gives it more character. Really highlights the importance of basics!
You were so born for 90s style 😍
7:21 this outfit is EVERYTHING
Its phoebe!!
The third outfit reminds me of Phoebe Buffay. you shoud made a video dressing like your favourite TV/film characters, I think you own a lot of items you could use to recreate 90s/00s film outfits.
I had the exact same thought!
I was thinking more Stevie Nicks, but yes, my favourite out of the outfits (all cute!).

obsessed with the velvet outfit!!

Accessories like necklace, bracelets/watch, hat, sunglasses, hair accessory, noticeable earrings, nail polish, pedicure. It all adds interest.
Kitty walking in to be the 7th point in the outfit at 3:00 XD
I love that two patterned button up!! It's so pretty!
I absolutely LOVE the velvet dress with the sparkly top from that two-piece set--SO 90's!!! Phoebe Buffay, eat your heart out!!!

the whimsical outfit ATEEEE what a gorgeous dress!!!
The denim dress with short-sleeved knit underneath and red stockings was soooooooo cute!
I LOVE the black velvet outfit
2nd looks look more polished in my opinion but also like simplicity of the 1st looks so either really
The headband and red tights are so Blair Waldorf-coded! 🔥
The velvet outfit gives 90's vibes in the best way and I am here for it.
wow the third outfit gives me Sabrina the teenage witch vibes LOVE IT
Loved all the outfits you put together. Both the originals and the 7+ points. I love whenever you do outfit videos. Especially 90s style 😍
I've never heard of this method but now I want to try it out, I really liked your 'simple' outfits but adding points definitely elevated them! bonus points for kind of making a dutch flag with your second outfit 😉

I lthink the original outfits are more striking. You seem more confident and authentic in them.
I love all of these! The 7 points definitely adds to every outfit.
Your Phoebe Buffay 2024 fit alone contributed more to fashion than the 7 point trend ever could imo :):):):)
I’ve been in a bit of a styling slump so I’ll definitely be trying this method! I loved every single outfit btw🤩
OMG I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! they're incredibly inspiring!!!
❤❤❤❤
First outfit I liked both restyles. Outfit with black dress I like original and the restyle.
this is so interesting to me bc i naturally gravitate to tons & tons of accessories for my personal style!
I think wearing eccentric pieces count as more points
ahhh i wanted to try this sooo bad after seeing that tiktok too!! i think im still going to 😊
I’m so glad I found your channel. You’ve given me so many tips on updating my personal style. Thanks Alexa!
Ive been having creative block with styling so im definitely going to try this
love the outfits Alexa! thanks for the inspo!!
Hey Alexa where did you find those black jeans??? they’re exactly what i’ve been looking for! and that Phoebe Buffay maxi sweater outfit made me audibly gasp, we NEED to see you wear it again and again🖤💜💙
They are the Cary High Rise Slouchy Wide Leg Jeans by Reformation! Pricey, but so comfortable!

I really enjoyed this video ^^ I haven't heard of the 7 point method before but now I wanna try
Hold Autumn! +1 point
😅🙌🏻
Hey Alexa! I love this experimental styling video! I really loved the red tights. That made it pop. Cute! ❤
Lol I wear 5 rings every day (not the same ones but on the same fingers), so 7 points is so low for me. Your style is always impeccable!

The second outfit is very "Alice in Wonderland"....
Hi Alexa, I'm gonna copy that style I have a Jean shirt but never did much to it
i remember when someone did the same thing, but gave statement pieces 2-3 points to encourage useing some mor out their pieces alongside basics

Hi Hi ❤❤❤❤
I like all the outfits but the added item do make all of them more interesting! I wear pretty basic outfits myself so I might have to try this method 👀 also, that velvet dress is gorgeous, does anyone know the brand? 🫢
The tag says "Walter" 🖤🖤🖤
