I own both NC-3 and E36. Chassis on the E36 is much more solid than Miata but Miata is more nimble on the twisty turns and E36 is strong on the straight line. I am not surprised those car are equally matched. If Frankie got the suspension dialed correctly I am sure the time will be even closer. Great video thank you

I can't believe I just now found this awesome channel. I just picked up a 2008 Miata that will become a dual purpose car for me. I just gotta do a seat modification and rollbar due to my height. I decided risking my Nismo 350Z on hpde track days isn't the best idea and Miata parts are so much cheaper - looking forward to a 2.5 swap in the future. I wish you guys would also add a drag race, slalom, braking and skid pad events / data - could really show where cars shine or expose where they are lacking.

I agree. They’ve been saying that since it was introduced in ‘95. The pro is the maintenance cost, but you can always swap a S54 in it if you’re rich enough, lol.
The car was MUCH MUCH more affordable and reliable than the "real" Euro M3. It's not as good of an engine to drive, but it's the reason US-spec M3s are still available at reasonable prices and a common sight in grassroots events. If we git the "real" M3, they would have sold 1/10th as many, and the cars would be going for Porsche Cayman money today.
I don't fit in a Miata (6'9"), so i'm currently looking into swapping the same setup Frankie was running into a fox or SN95 Mustang. won't be much for straight line speed, but it should corner and stop like nobody's business.
Subd. I would like to see some preliminary tests before the road track. This is considering the amount of practice the drivers get. Why not compare 0-60, or trap speeds? Great video 👍 I'm looking forward to seeing more.
You could 👍🏼 just get it out there and learn how to drive you car and you'll crush those numbers, track laps are more about car familiarity and connectivity than just pure speed 🙏🏼
Neither of those cars looked very fast. The older M3 would NEVER be my choice. I have a 740whp 335i E92, and I think I'd dog either one of those cars. We track it about six to eight times a year, and it's a lot of fun, and crazy fast. But this was fun to watch, and I'll definitely check in to see more. Cheers!
It's pretty equal. NC3 is 182HP at 2200 ish pounds. M3 240 hp 2900 pounds is not that impressive. The M3 stock body. Same tires. NC has more aero. It's pretty equal.
@@KillswitchRobie828 The M3 was stripped down to the same weight as the NC and it had all new bushings, solid mounts, and MCS 2 ways. Given all that I was expecting a way bigger gap between them.
@@MitchelYardley Agreed the NC is heavy, having the soft top helps a little but it's still probably above 2400, but the 2.5 helps a lot, if that was a stock power NC there would've been a much bigger gap 😄
Saying “it’s all down to the driver” I think is very false here. Yes the driver matters a lot but every car on this series is extremely different and it seems there’s more of a focus on the car and the build. Finding a pro driver like Randy Pobst to drive every car could improve the series
I take the miata with a bit more throttle response, maybe with itb, should be good, the m3 is a real track tool if you know how to set up even if the car is all stock engine. You can check the nurburgring m3 with a 7.17 lap time, unfortunatly It's a us m3
7:00min BTG is the current e36 record, factory LTW aero, almost 400hp n/a s54, a lot of weight reduction & chassis tuning. 235/45/17 street legal tw100 R comp tires.
20 seconds into the lap and can already tell the bmw boy is slow. Throttle is on the other side. Typical track day driver. Seven tenth driver thinking they're driving 10 10 and can't figure out way so slow. Last 4 or 5 track days I've gone to everyone is slow. Have to go to a competition to even have anyone show up that can drive half way decent
