I’m an 11B, bought the 38 for a 4 day pack. I can pack out my kit pre-mission, and carry ammo in the load shelf on mission. Ability to carry more if need be is great. Main pouch is large and simple and sturdy.
Pop up 28 is so much better. Mostly because it's built better. Where the 38 is just loose. Example: the space between the frame and bag has way too much room and you can't compress it any tighter. The bag just flops around like a dead fish. Should be excellent once you put some meat on the load shelf. If you have the Metcalf. Get the 28. If you have the beartooth get the 38. This will balance you out between day and weekend long hunts. The 38 and Metcalf are just too close in size. For a week long hunt I would say buy a Marshall. Of course Metcalf and beartooth would work fine depending on hunt and comfort desire (i.e. extra gear )
Great content 👍, thanks for breaking it down, I have been looking for a day pack system & have considered the pop-up 2. No doubt this is the pack I'm looking for.
I just picked up a new Pintler on the Guide Light MT frame in XL size. I’m 6’3” and torso measurement is 22” but no matter how I adjust it, I can’t get the load lifters high enough to give me that 45° angle. Wondering how the frame height of the Pintler compares to this pop up frame. You look tall too and definitely had a good 45° with this pack.
The frames are completely different. The Pop Up frame features expandable pole stays that the height is adjusted via flip locking mechanisms. This features allows you change the positioning the load lifter so you can get that good 45 degree angle no matter what.
goHUNT my issue is I got this pack for elk and I don’t think the popup frame is going to be substantial enough for that packout. So what’s more important, a sturdier pack/frame with better waist belt or getting that 45° angle? It doesn’t make sense that I can’t get that out of a better pack/frame (Pintler).
How do you think this would do on a 3-day pack trip considering using a dry bag to put on the meat shelf for extra storage. Then once you got to spike camp you could use this as the day pack as well.
True story: I was going through my 2 dozen packs to thin the herd a bit and was looking online to see what I could get for some of them. Instead of selling anything, I got distracted and ended up adding a 4th Mystery Ranch pack to my collection. #ImWeak
I have packed out several elk with my popup 28. Did a hind and a front quarter for 2 trips then horns and loose meat the last on one of them. Pack handled it better then my legs did.
Yeah it could be tricky to attach your bow on the Pop Up bags but you might be able to make it work with side straps. Mystery Ranch bags always have very universal straps the can connect just about anywhere.
So we do a 13 minute review and never open up the bag to really see the inside of the bag..gave about 10 seconds on the 38 to show where you could put a camel back

This is the best review I have ever seen for a hunting pack. Thank you Sir, excellent job.
My left ear loved this review
This guy did a better review than mystery ranch did. THANK YOU. Love their gear but their marketing department is a joke.
Them and PSE. Having to tell people I shoot a "PSE Bowmadness UNLEASHED" gets a little old after a few times.
Awsome video super helpful for my decision on my first mule pack
My left ear enjoyed this video

I need one of these
Great review. Which way would you go for a tree stand whitetail/ western game crossover pack?
The 28 would be great for that!
Easy to add a gun sling, like the Kifaru Gun Bearer?

Pintler pack review
Can you fit a 20-60x80 spotter in the both? With enough room for extra layers?
Watch my video on my channel. Posted a pretty in depth review
Cool design. Looks like the pop up poles are kinda thin. I could see you already bent one side.
Is there anyway to attach a bow to the outside for packing in our out?
Yeah it could be tricky to attach your bow on the Pop Up bags but you might be able to make it work with side straps. Mystery Ranch bags always have very universal straps the can connect just about anywhere.
They now offer bow pouches or straps on their site I think I saw
Do they make a rsin cover for these packs?
Yes they do. You can find them in our Gear Shop here: shop.gohunt.com/products/mystery-ranch-pack-fly?_pos=3&_sid=ba906d509&_ss=r
What size waist belt is that??
How about packing elk sheds?
Thank you great review
Glad it was helpful!
Great review. Is the hip belt removable?
Yes it is.
