    FINALLY SCS has done something to improve the actual core game: Multiple pivot points!
    We will be able to drive B-doubles in the US and classic truck-trailer combinations in the EU.
    This being said, it took them 4 1/2 years to actually change something in the core gameplay and game engine...

    • @beamz9811

      X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X Yeah, now we finally can take this over (convert) this to ETS2 engine and finally make the trailers we've been waiting for

    • @MellowYe77ow
      @MellowYe77ow 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Double trailers are coming to both games in the next big update.

    • @X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X
      @X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      That's what SCS should do: Develop the actual game engine!
      For content (maps, trailers, tuning, skins) we have modders who do a great job.

      Apart from the improvements to the graphics, addition of liftable trailer axles, improved physics and tire simulation, improvements to control inputs, performance improvements, more detailed mapping capabilities, modding support, etc. etc. Everyone seems to act like they haven't been constantly tweaking and upgrading the game over the past 5 years... Go back and play one of those original versions of ETS2 and you'll see just how far the game has come since then.

    • @X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X
      @X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      - graphics: Some improvements. Does not change the gameplay, however.
      - liftable trailer axles: You lift them once per delivery at the max
      - physics and tire simulation: Good improvements, still unrealistic however. Mods do a much better job.
      - improvements to control inputs: A good improvement, I agree.
      - performance improvements: Shadows still kill FPS like in no other game. Still dx9
      - more detailed mapping capabilites:
      - modding support: It's what keeps the game alive in the first place. Mods worked since the release.
      Overall, we are still doing some driving as a hired driver, a given a garage and a loan, buy our first semi truck, deliver some semi trailers from A to B, and buy some more trucks for hired drivers. No own trailers, no company / economics management, no specilisation, no variety in trucks.
      Now, the support of multiple pivot points will, for the first time, change the face of the game: We will drive entirely different trucks and trailers (!) for the first time in five years.
      After the introduction of Gigaliners and B-doubles we may also see the truck-trailer combinations that are all over Europe!
      And finally, we may actually have to buy trucks and trailers for special goods (like refrigerated, flammable liquids, etc.).

    Regarding transmissions, it's worth noting the differential ratio, as well. That's the additional gear reduction, found in the ring/pinion gear sets in each axle. As such, the differential ratio is applied to ALL gears in the transmission. The higher that number, the more pulling power, just like the transmission gears.

    Fun fact the first heavy haul (DLC) trailer is the same tractor that Richard Hammond used in Top gear where they accidentally grew Bio-Diesel

  • @samandbritt224
    @samandbritt224 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's pretty normal hauling these kinds of loads to put your outer steer tire or even the whole outer side of your frame into the grass (dirt, etc) to make a turn. This is where route preplanning comes into play, looking at turns on GPS with satellite overlay (not available on the game) to see how many lanes you have at your disposal and what the surrounding terrain looks like. Having escorts is another huge benefit (another in-game feature not included and likely not really possible to include due to AI) don't be afraid to put your outer edge in the dirt or into oncoming traffic to make a corner.

  • @dankinusmc1
    @dankinusmc1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    as an FYI, the front trailer is called a jeep, the last little one is called a stinger, the main trailer is an RGN, and they usually reffer to them by axle count, so it would be a 2+3 for the little one, and a 2+2+2 for the bigger one.

    I just got my first achievement of the Oversize pack. tips for the oversize pack 1. only take an oversize load during the day. Do Not Drive at Night! If your load heads into the night hours find a Truck Stop or Rest Area and park it otherwise you are not allowed on the freeway. 2. Oversize means overweight. Don't drive on the road until you have the permits. By law all oversize loads must hit the Scales. Find the scales and get your load weighed before you head to delivery. 3. Go wide. Oversize loads have three to four trailers you must go wide to enter and exit the yard and to avoid knocking down stop signs and traffic lights. and 4. Oversize loads can not be parked in the regular spot. Find an alternative spot or separate your trailers it is impossible to back up and park an oversize load.

  • @Djh20011
    @Djh20011 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    First trailer is called a bridge (single would be a Jeep). Then your low bed, then your booster on the rear :) I did low bedding with a Jeep set up in Canada, 5500 kgs on steers, 24000 kgs on my drives and Jeep, and 24000 kgs on the trailer tri axle :)

  • @shaeffdog1357
    @shaeffdog1357 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Squirrel just so you are aware the front part of the trailer is called the jeep, you then have the trailer that attaches to that and the very back "dolley" as some will call it is called a stinger, just some advice from Texas where this stuff is almost everyday for me

  • @bryonfink7118
    @bryonfink7118 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    This is how it really is in America with heavy hauls. Though there is usually a pilot car in the front with a pole on the vehichle testing low height spots to warn the truck driver ahead of time and the load is also followed by a 2nd pilot car for traffic control.

    • @gekcogaming5701
      @gekcogaming5701 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the height of the load. If you watch Sergei Dratchev on TH-cam he hardly ever uses a pilot car. He does heavy haul all the time and I have only seen one of his videos where he used a pilot car, it was on a very twisty road so that was probably why.

    • @thesaltypeanut741
      @thesaltypeanut741 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought there was a police car at the end behind the last pilot car

    • @Cleetusvandamm105
      @Cleetusvandamm105 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Granted I have only watched a fraction of his videos so far but I don't think his trailer is as long as some of these.
      The loads I have seen are heavy but not especially oversized.
      He is so particular in how he does things, I would bet he would be a trip to drive a pilot car for .
      His channel is one of my favorites, he has a very dry sense of humor.

    • @EllieODaire
      @EllieODaire 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Salty Peanut Whether or not you need a pilot car ahead and/or behind or a police presence changes from state to state as well. I've seen trucks on rural Colorado roads with nuclear waste casks that take up two lanes that have numerous police escorts ahead and behind blocking side roads and forcing oncoming traffic to pull over.

    You can also swing over left after your initial turn, then go as far as possible and turn sharp right to align yourself with the drop-off point. That's often how i do it. And yes, i know this video was released 3 years ago by the time i am watching this, but thought i would watch it and mention it anyway

    Hey Squirrel, I hope you get to see this,
    I've watched your videos for years now, all the way back before American Truck Simulator was a thing, this got me to like trucking, something I previously kinda disliked as trucking was running in my family for 2 generations now, and when they got American Truck Simulator out, as a Canadian I was very glad to get something closer to home, and this game made me enjoy trucking so much (No offense European truckers, you need bigger rigs, they just look cool, deal with it) it made me like it so much that I went on and started studying to get my own truck license (class 1 here) and in a few days I should finally receive my license, I passed my test wonderfully last week, honestly I never thought I'd be a trucker until now. And I have you to thank for it. Yes my dad got me interested at first, and my American grandpa got me dreaming about driving from New York to California for a living, but over the years I kind of lost interest, I have you to thank for reviving this spirit in me.
    Thank you Squirrel.

    Gidday Squirrel.
    I've taken on the Heavy Haulage DLC, mainly because I'm gunna love the challenge, and I had a reversing experience after I miss judged the entrance that I could only describe as a 'totally embarrassing disaster' and I was lookin for info on how to do it properly and look professional. I also wanted to know how to set my truck up to have what it needs to do the job. I was lookin and lookin until I found this video. You have covered everything I needed to know in one short and thorough lesson in a friendly easy to listen to manner. I was rapt and wanted to let you know of my appreciation. I'd still like to learn how to reverse these multi-pivot point trailers though and maybe one day I will. Being able to lock the pivot points might be a good way to have more control. Ah who knows what options will become available.
    I'm glad I discovered you squirrel and I'm happy to become a subscriber. I'll check out your other videos as well.
    I'm a retired driver and play ATS and ETS2 to keep my skills honed and still feel part of the trucking community.
    Mate, thanks very much!

  • @schon2998
    @schon2998 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It would be nice if SCS would add the spread axle flatbed that are primarily in use in the USA. These multi-point articulating trailers are meant for hundreds of thousands of pounds. In fact you can haul a lot more on a standard 48-102 trailer than 20ton's. Most are rated well over 50ton capaity. What makes it "heavy haul" is that you are over the legal gross weight of 80,000lbs.

  • @camboi6103
    @camboi6103 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    idk why but i find it satisfying to watch a trailer straightn itself out once you have reversed enough to turn all the arituclation points as far as they can go

  • @jea4jea413
    @jea4jea413 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    front and rear extra trailers are called jeeps and that type of flatbed is called a rgn removable goose neck
    there are flats called skateboards and stepdecks which have 24in to 22in drop in deck height 11ft from the front and double drops which the deck is similar to the rgn in deck height but has better securement and less trailer weight then a rgn I normally pull a 48ft retniour 10ft spread axle trailer

    I finally got the dlc today and hauled two of the trailers(the crawler tractor and the lift truck). I've got to say scs did an amazing job with the trailers and their handling model. It's definitely worth the 5 dollars I spent on it. Btw if you use the back end of the tractor to swing the front stinger it'll pull your trailer where you need it to go with out going so wide especially useful for that rail drop off. I know because I had the three piece trailer going into that drop off. Awesome video as well!

    the first dolly is called a "jeep" and the rear dolly is called "bridge" I do use jeeps but I've never used a bridge, 2 trailers aren't too hard to back up, but 3 is difficult, big steering movements for your rear trailer, small for your lead

  • @impy1980
    @impy1980 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me, this is proper heavy, none of that easy auto turning trailers in ETS. Even in the UK, the Lift Truck Chassis trailer see a common heavy haul configuration. I would however like to see the ability to detach the load bearing trucks within a certain distance from the drop off points; both of the UK and Australia I've seen drivers detach the load bearing truck sometimes when then arrive at the drop off to aid with shortening the load and maneuvering in the tighter spaces.
    This definitely ramps up the difficulty and challenge though, bring it on :D

    I wish they would add heavy cargos like the Caterpillar 797F, now that would be a nice challenge, moving 300+ Tons of weight

    How do you get the option of changing your transmission in the controls menu, mine is no longer there after the DLC was added?

    Truck I use currently has transmission with retarder that doesn't work and engine brake also doesn't work. Best truck for this dlc.

    The oversize sign does not come with the heavy haul DLC at all. Either ETS2 or ATS there is only 6 different loads you can haul. Also the beacons are not built into the base game at all.

    Finally. This makes the game a hell of a lot harder to play which is great. Now all I want is doubles/tandems and I'll be very happy.

      Doubles will be added in the 1.7 update, which should be released sometime in the coming weeks. If you don't want to wait, there are already 2 doubles mods on atsmods.

      Europe is way better in everything. The dull Americans just happen to live more isolated and thus less enemies and oil reserves, which just gave them a little boost.

    • @quasiczarcasm
      @quasiczarcasm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Different tech for different roads. We have a lot of long straight-ish wide roads so we don't have a need for European style trailers as much. We do have trailers with steerable axles but they aren't really needed except for specific applications.

    • @natahn9568
      @natahn9568 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ah indeed. Roads in europe are narrow and with tight corners. These american trailers are very very long(for me). Anyway, this shows that double(or more) trailers are now possible(even for modding, can't wait to see some road train mods)

    • @Descorath
      @Descorath 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      While "better" in the form of more advanced, its also has its disadvantages. My first thought is tire dimension and tire speed at highway speeds.
      Europe you usually don't drive _that_ long with loads, so the wear on small tires isn't bad, but when you are going to transport it across the US, larger tires will mean less wear.

    Can't wait for these trailers. I find the drop offs in the original game a bit too easy, even when using just interior cams, and using only mirrors (no leaning out). Yes, there are a few harder drop offs, but most of the time they are relatively straight shot If you think how you do it beforehand. These seem like a nice add on to the game. Hope there would be a harder ones still, since the last one seems moderately hard, but, what I see from the video, easily done as long as you think how you enter the lot

    i hope they also make like an escort dlc. You know, when you have to do a heavy haul. There is a utility cars or police to escort you until you get to your destination. It's posible right? AI will have to react to it of course.

    What's the point of the extra dolly on the back? It doesn't seem to bear any of the load? I see how the dolly in front takes some of the load off of the rears of the truck but the one in the rear just seems like a trailer to carry the wide load sign and flags. Am I missing something?
