On mine, the spring is attached to the oil filter lid. I should be putting oil in my motor tonight. First fire up is coming very soon! Oh, and ratcheting wrenches are some of my favorite tools!

Always a fun time. Just imgine telling a Gen Z that there were engines that you lubricated while they ran with those little oil cans.

As A Gen Z I actually like learning these things can't afford one yet (Still in school) but when ever I get a car be it gas ,Hydrogen, Bio, Plug in Hybrid or Electric I want to maintain as much of the maintenance by my self as possible so seeing these videos give me good pointers for the basics.

Did you use an oil with a high zinc content or a ZDDP additive? These old flat tappet engines generally need the extra zinc. Shell Rotella 15W-40 (for diesels) is a popular choice for Willys Jeeps thanks to the high zinc content. Valvoline ZR1 is another. But you can buy a bottle of zinc additive from any of the usual automotive stores and pour some of it into whatever oil you just put in if needed. (This is one of those topics that causes a lot of discussion on forums, hopefully I don't start something by mentioning it.)

Nope...all is good. I asked one of my vintage Jeep buddies what they used and they have been using regular 10/30. I will look up your suggestion about the additive.

@@rusttooresurrection813 Like I said, it's one of those subjects with a lot of discussions. Some say you must use an additive or high zinc oil. Some say if you don't daily drive it and it goes only 1000 miles or less a year, you're fine. Others swear your tappets will wear fast without the additive since modern oil doesn't have much zinc anymore (it ruins catalytic converters, apparently). It's at least a topic worth a read on the usual forums.

I just added one to the banner. Been meaning to do that but I didn't think the channel was big enough to need one.
