This is getting me interested in Starfinder! I know Starfinder uses the same base rules as Pathfinder. Once the play test is out could you do a video on the differences?
Good news! If you look at my "Why you should be hyped for Starfinder" video ( th-cam.com/video/UcJ6twUyrWU/w-d-xo.html ) I've laid out some of the changes they've already announced. Mostly it's the addition of a few new conditions, and some new skills (like computers.)
From a writing perspective the Gap is a really smart way to leave it open to always have valid canon no matter who writes what when (since you compared it to starwars ;) )
As someone who recently played a Solarian who was out of commission for 3 years learned about the few years of Society play. I HAD TO REMEMBER THINGS I GOT 3 YEARS AGO FOR ORIGINS. Now I need to update that character the best I can.
I'm late to the party, but this video and now playlist is exactly what I want and need! I never touched SF1, and I only know random snippets of things so I'm excited to dig into the lore!
Thanks for the primer! I will say though The Gap is up there as one of the most convenient ways to not have to explain the literal gap between your stories that I have ever seen haha
I think this is GREAT content for your channel. I got a chance to play a SF2e demo in February and a custom SF2e scenario on Fire RPG Day. I’m also learning to play SF1 now b/c one of my GMs wants to run Against the Aeon Throne. I’d planned to just wait on SF2e, but it looks like I’ll learn BOTH!
Great stuff. Would be interested in learning more. The drift reminds me of Babylon 5’s Hyperspace though it sounds like the drift isn’t as foreboding. And getting lost in the drift isn’t as dangerous either.
I mean, there IS some bad stuff about the drift. Every time a drift engine starts up, it steals a tiny chunk of another plane of existence. Since most planes are, y’know, infinite, it’s usually not a problem. But the first Starfinder adventure starts off with a chunk of a super weapon that as shunted into a demiplane so no one could ever use it gets ‘stolen,’ by the drift.
From what I heard, there are going to be two starship combat rules systems. For parties that build for Starship combat, there will be a system similar to first edition. For parties that don’t, there will be a system that is more ‘cinematic.’ I suspect the second system will operate kinda like the chase mechanics, where it will be a series of skill challenges that has a less tactical, but more diverse set of skills will be allowed.
@@PsiPrimeProductions1 I'm also kind of curious what changes to the Mechanic they are going to make, since the 1E version is basically the PF2E Inventor.
@@FireBowProductions No Mechanic in the core Starfinder book. The developers went on record saying that for the mechanic and Technomancer, you need a lot of tech items, and they won't have a large enough stockpile of tech items in Starfinder with just the core book to do them justice. (That was one of the chief complains of the initial alchemist, that there weren't enough alchemical items) They do plan on coming out with them eventually. The core classes will be: Soldier, Operative, Envoy, Solarian, Mystic, and Witchwarper (Witchwarper has swollowed Precog BTW)
@@PsiPrimeProductions1 That makes sense with the Witchwarper and Precog. Very fine line between alternate realities and alternate timelines, depending on how you view the two.
Hah! My personal theory of the gap is that somehow mortals freed Rovagug. The gods had to band together, with Torag giving his life in the process, and then they stripped all memory of what happened, including the hundreds of years of planning it took to happen, from mortal memory.
I am not the only one to watch you late night and the bright white format isn’t desirable. Consider alternatives cause the content is good, I have turned away more than once.
