  • Ethernet splitters seem like a cheap and easy way to get more Ethernet ports at the end of an established cabled, but it turns out they’re almost never the best solution. Here’s why.

    I have fiber internet coming into my house. I would like to connect two wireless routers. What would be the best way to split the ethernet cable to each router?

    Thanks mate for this video. I have FRITZ!Box Router in one room, currently connecting other rooms via wifi. As my son is playing online games, he needs a good connection and we are planning to install a cable from the router to his room. He has a pc and a ps5. Would it be ok to just run one cable from the router to his room and then connect a switch to split the signal to the two devices?

    Hey so my internet speed is around 52 mbps and I have 2 gaming consoles I want to connect via lan, but there's only 1 ethernet patch in the wall. I ordered an ethernet splitter, I just wanna know if speed will be affected since I do not have a 1 gig speed anyways.

    good morning
    theoretically, would this work over a 1gb network with a cat 7 cable? i am losing about 50mbps since its a 100ft wire and distance. still great speeds on my PC with it hardwired to ethernet around 950mbps download and 26 upload. with less than 10 ping and latency for both
    i want to split this ethernet cable in my guest room and connect a second router to the cable coming from the first router seated next to the modem.
    would this work to increase the range of my WIFI on that part of the house while simultaneously providing a more stable connection for my pc wired?

    I'm trying to work this currently. My router has four outlets and I'd like more. I'd like to move away from wireless to a more wired configuration. Using the home wiring is not suitable in my home as it is a radial system. I do have a network around the house all coming back to the router but nowhere to plug them all in.

    I have a question bro random are these products good as far as just using them to make your Ethernet cable longer than what it is by connecting them one to the other on each side just wondering

    • @SydneyButler
      @SydneyButler ปีที่แล้ว

      No, since you'll make the connection ten times slower. Just get a straight up passive or powered ethernet extender, depending on how long the cable is.

    If I plug a Lan cable from my router into a splitter and then into my ps4 would it change my nat type?

    • @SydneyButler
      @SydneyButler ปีที่แล้ว

      it shouldn't, since the router handles NAT.

    If an Ethernet cable is connected to an ISPs router would issues occur with WI-FI? I am planning on connecting two Ethernet cables one will be going directly into a PlayStation and another might be connected to 8 port switch which will be used to set up a new network. Not sure whether two different cat cables would cause an issue my isp has provided me with a cat 5e ethernet cable I am planning on getting an cat 8 cable could the two cause an issue?

    • @robertbenoit5374
      @robertbenoit5374 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cat8? Good lord, cat 6 is all you need for most home internet connections. If you have an 8 port switch, all of your wired devices that are able to Connect as practical should be connected to it and then connect the switch to the router from the ISP.

    I’m just wondering but would you be able to use a Ethernet splitter to connect 2 consoles to so you don’t have to keep unplugging the cable from one console and put it in the other?

    Ok so I have 1 ethernet cable connected to my modem and I want to get a splitter that will allow me to connect that 1 to add 2 more ethernet ports. Any links to which splitter's may do that the best?

      It is recommended to add a switch to the network, this also doesn't limit the connection to 100mbit. A relatively cheap switch is the D-Link GO-SW-5G.

    • @BrickPB
      @BrickPB ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the splitters I’ve found on Amazon say you can’t connect the internet on both devices at the same time when using a splitter. Is this true?

      Bruh just use a Ethernet switch hub if you want 10/100 MBPS then it's just like 5$ but if you want 100/1000MBPS then it's just 15$

    I have 1 Ethernet cable coming to my tv but also want to hook up my Xbox. What is my best option. I was thinking about using a splitter.

    • @robertbenoit5374
      @robertbenoit5374 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Get a 4 port switch they are inexpensive and the best option, splitter is not a good idea.

  • @alexjulius69
    @alexjulius69 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm trynna hook up my server, and the closest ethernet cable is inside a tv that's closeby, so I'm thinking splitting the connection between a tv and a server isn't gonna cause any problems, right?

    • @SydneyButler
      @SydneyButler ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be much better to get a cheap passive switch instead. As I said in the video, you need to "split" the cable at both ends, and you're giving up a massive amount of bandwidth. Not worth it.

    • @alexjulius69
      @alexjulius69 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I googled something i came to think about and found this video,
    If i have 100mbs internet and connect two cables from my wall via a splitter, does both cables have full speed (100/100) or does it split it?

    • @imnotbeluga007
      @imnotbeluga007 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the cable you use, but if you're using Cat 5e, you get two 100 Mbps Base-T connections. The only problem is that the cable's bandwidth is limited to 100 Mbps, so any more and it might start dropping out. If you need a truly reliable solution, run two separate cables, but if you can't run two cables, a splitter can help. Just make one yourself because some bought splitters are not wired up correcly. You can also use a switch at the end, which will provide maximum speed for not much more money.

    And if i want to use 1 wire with poe and put the spliters also on it ,before the poe injector and after the poe spliter ?😂 than what? will they work togheter both ? Poe and the 2 devices with internet at the and of the line ? Test question 😂

  • @ImPuLsE93
    @ImPuLsE93 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    0:52 shows a PoE splitter, and says you can use that to power your device, Incorrect, you would need a PoE Injector for that, a PoE splitter is the reverse of an injector, and that's what is pictured on the right hand side.

    The whole point of Ethernet is to avoid Wi-Fi and EMF radiation. Also..
    The problem with Ethernet extender over power plug is that it creates dirty electricity
