I usually read pony horror stories every year for Halloween. It hits harder when the terrible things in the story are happening to characters your care about and in settings you're already familiar with.
Where as other horror stories have to buy you into their characters and setting, why you should care about joe schmoe

i think i love the idea of mlp creepypasta honestly. of course it's a bit upsetting to hear about bad things happening to characters you love but it can not be disturbing in this context as long as you aren't taking it seriously. i listened to a dramatic reading of the rainbow factory a few days ago and it was quite frankly the funniest shit. the juxtaposition of candy colored horses going "fuck! shit!!! damn hell!! bitch!!!!!!" and then being turned or turning others into big bloody piles of meat and goo is objectively very silly. on a similar note the mlp x phoenix wright crossover fan videos, i think they're interesting and it's compelling to see the plot unravel, but when you take a step back you can't help but laugh at the absurdity. scootaloo was arrested for murder. it's great. i love this stuff as an adult but i can't fail to mention that all this was genuinely disturbing to me when i was a child, the show's original target audience. of course the internet is not generally a safe space for children but when there's something made for kids, crudely perverting it is maybe not cool. i don't think i'll ever be over it.

I've always found it weird how Pinkamena is canonically just Pinkie's first name, and a representation of her when she's feeling sad, but the fandom just decided that she was an evil alter ego

@@corvidmorgue Alright then….I’m sorry you had to see that when you were eight lol, to be honest I discovered a few fan fictions or concepts when I was young, like Pinkamena or Cupcakes (not sure if I actually read Cupcakes until I was 11 or younger) and Story Of The Blanks, that was before I could get past the scary ponies, now I can or have once years later or a few years later or a year or months later? And Luna Game, I saw gameplays and actually downloaded the games after, and due to seeing the gameplays I was probably desensitised to anything scary or I didn’t care at the kind and didn’t straight up SCREAM and probably watched the scary stuff happen in the game while playing or played some music or a video to block out the scariness, I’m not sure. If I did that without the TV on or if I ever did that in the dark younger me probably would’ve had or had nerves of steel.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone mention Butterflies, I think that's a really good one. Love stories where the villain just genuinely thinks they're doing the right thing, and I think that fic does it pretty well. Apple Sleep Experiment is pretty good too.

"Pinkamena" isn't a name made by the fandom. Pinkie's name is canonically "Pinkamena Diane Pie", with Pinkie just being her nickname.

True but it has become the more popularized for “evil pinkie pie” probably because she’s more serious and not going by a silly nickname anymore (I’m probably wrong about the reason but that is the popular term for evil pinkie pie in the fandom)

-the author of Why I Stopped Watching My Little Pony still writes in that universe today, and theyve gotten steadily better as theyve gone. I even wrote one that they deemed canon, and helped edit their most recent one, which is going up on fimfiction this halloween!
-the author of Rainbow Factory... yeah, you know the drill by now, they came out as gay, got a boyfriend who helped them write a few sequels, its all compiled in a published book you can buy, youve heard it before

Cupcakes didn't scare me, but it did upset me after, since it pretty much made the fandom consistently associate Pinkie's whole character as a psychopathic murderer instead of the Pink ball of fun with a hint of crazy.
Eventually it died out for the most part, but it's still a tough thing to swallow.

The part of Cupcakes isn't the story itself but the fact that it was posted before Party of One aired. The collective shock when Pinkie loses her grip on reality and Rainbow Dash of all ponies is sent to retrieve her for the Surprise party. I remember audibly gasping and laughing like "No Dashie don't go in there! Shes gonna turn you into Cupcakes!"
That was one hell of ride
context for sweet apple massacre: it's a grossout fic of Big Mac abusing applebloom and other school age ponies in That Kind of way, it gets pretty damn violent and that's why the video author is giving it a hard pass. Just putting it out there so nobody goes 'owo wats thi-' and looks it up on their own.

@@Hey_How_Does_This_Work yeah there's a lot of pony fic readings on youtube, there's some good horror readouts (I liked One for the mystery suspense/build-up with Twilight Sparkle roaming an empty Equestria, warning for sad more than anything) but I'm guessing someone took it upon themselves to make audio of apple massacre :| which is pointless as its not a gripping story, its one mans' (alleged) trollfic because he got beat up in call of duty. There's no redeeming value, they're just doing the other kind of nsfw and not age-gating it at that point.
Does anyone else remember Twilight's Dollhouse or is it just something only I was traumatized by? It was a story where Twilight got super paranoid that her friends would leave her and she would have no one left, so she lured a bunch of them to her house one by one to drug them and turn them to dolls and it got really dark. Like I think she got upset at Bonbon at one point and pulled out all of her teeth.
I'm fairly certain I read this one, if it's the one I'm thinking of. I can't see hotplates the same way again. Yeugh.

If you want a good grimdark, I’d strongly recommend “The Friendship Test”. It’s in short about Starlight testing the Mane 6’s friendship in deadly ways. The voice acting is incredible and the story will make you shift uncomfortably. 10/10 would have nightmares again.

I remember being really into all these darker mlp stories. So when my younger sister one day came home with one of those mlp magazines full of puzzles and such, I was surprised to find a page dedicated to "making rainbow cupcakes with pinkiepie." The people that made those magazines were either really in touch with the bronies, or not at all.
I would presume 'not at all' option. As pinkie baking rainbow cupcakes would be something pretty normal for someone who didn't know about the 'Cupcakes'. Probably oblivious children advertisement.
Maybe it was both. The magazine peeps probably knew what they were doing with the cupcakes but the higher ups were obviously none the wiser and approved it because "pinkie pie haha silly cupcakes"

I read Sweet Apple Massacre when I was 12, years later I can still say it's the most awful fanfiction I've read. Even if you're a fan of gore or noncon (why) it's just layers upon layers of utter trash. Also especially stay away from it if you're young, I remember I read it because some TH-camr I watched said it was "tHe dArKesT mLp fAnFiC" and I wanted to prove how "mature" I was to myself. Warnings are there for a reason.
It's just horrible, it's not even scary anymore it's just, it made me sick reading it when I was like 10. Awful.
I read it for the same reason at also a VERY young age, wanted to feel mature and edgy. Utterly gross and disturbing, i just- i know a lot of artists don't condone things depicted in their art, but i can't help but wonder what goes on on the mind of Sweet Apple Massacre's writer.

Yeah, I have read it as 13 years old and it was a really bad experience. In my case, I wasn't trying to prove anything but was just curious. I've read gore fics before. But the noncon is so gross and unnecessary.
The cough genuinely upset me when I read it for the first time. There's just a genuine sadness and dread attached to having to sacrifice a friend for the greater good, only to have it be in vain in the end. One of my favourites to be sure.

@@queeniedramanicole9427 Cool, I liked a lot of the concepts in the series like ponies actually tasting like various (mainly) sweet foods resulting in colourful flesh and blood as well, because magic fantasy ponies. Makes the whole no one notices the pony in the cupcakes a lot easier to believe.
Cupcakes never sat right with me, because I just kept thinking "Those cupcakes would taste so bad."
Flesh and blood just don't mix well with sugar and icing if you ask me.
Rainbow Factory at least makes some sense, as one could probably find a way to extract color particles from anything and use it to make a rainbow, especially when a rainbow isn't naturally created by light being broken up into all the colors one can percieve.
Someone actually tested that by using common meat that would taste like human flesh and baking them into cupcakes.

Yeah, I've only ever dipped my toe into dark MLP stuff, not really seeking them out. I will most likely never go check any of them out because I'm sensitive towards things of that nature. I'm curious to know what the twists are, but not that curious. (I have read The Cough though. That wasn't too bad, as it wasn't about gore for the most part, but it was super sad and shocking.)
I remember I accidentally came across the Story of the Blanks as a kid. I never understood it was horror because it was My Little Pony, but I do remember it feeling really off. I don’t know I think I should replay it again for some good nostalgia

The only creepypasta of mlp that scared me and made me sick was Sweet Apple Massacre. I can't see Big Mac the same also Luna is the first to be an official Creepypasta since it was made in May 14, 2009 (open beta) and Sonic.exe was 24 July, 2013

This is actually a really good time capsule for most of the high profile grimdarks during the 2010s. It's so good in fact, that the next time someone asks about MLP grimdark, I'm going to slide this over to them lol (It's a lot better than my ramblings. LOL)
Both you and Raymundo did a phenomenal job with this, and I hope there are more videos like it. I always love seeing what people thought about certain fanfics I've done readings of or helped with the creation of it. I'm definitely subbing. :)

Something Sweet to Bite: The legend of the Candy Mare. A classic not officially touched on. And then you got the ones still being written by the likes of Scribbler and Lost Narrator. The tales coming out of the Rainbow Factory are what got me into the fandom side of MLP back in the day. Came in through the back door you could say😈

The fic that will always be close to my heart: Silent Ponyville. I know it is basically Silent Hill in the MLP world. But I feel like it still stands strong on its own. Especially to someone who didn't play Silent Hill games. It was my first introduction to the Silent Hill series.

It’s a disgusting awful story- on a different level than things like Cupcakes, the Rainbow Factory, or even Cheerilee’s Garden. Poorly written, but also a disgusting and awful story about a adult r2ping his child sister and her friends. I’m so glad it’s been removed from most archives

I've recently been going down a rabbit hole of these creepypastas for fun, and too many people online have Sweet Apple Massacre put up on this podium like it's something great. It's poorly written, it has nothing to do with massacre, and it should have never been written. It's absolutely disgusting.
There actually is an applejack grim dark that is kinda popular to my knowledge called the Apple sleep experiment. It's really well written, has a narration on TH-cam, and even had a song about it's I haven't finished watching the video yet so idk if it was mentioned but there was a point where you said there wasn't a scary version of apple jack. So I just wanted put this here. ;w;

Honestly, in my opinion, Rainbow Factory felt more like a Danganronpa execution for a bunch of ponies than "ohhh so scary!!!". It just didn't have that touch that stays with you and haunts you.

Story of the Blanks remains my favorite of these. I remember it being something of a trend that fanfics would occasionally reference it in an offhand manner whenever Apple Bloom is involved, like this one Trixie redemption fic where the CMC are heading into the forest and there's a brief moment where Apple Bloom freaks out when Scootaloo suggests going down one of the paths and is all like "Trust me guys, you DON'T wanna go down there..."
Trixie goes down it instead, and she _bolts_ the minute she learns what's in it.

This fandom was horrible for my development, honestly. I was an unmedicated, cowardly, Panic Disorder having bullied kid with unchecked anger issues and unbearable psychosis. (AKA: I was in eighth grade) Between the creepypastas boosting my psychosis and anxiety to learning about sex from Banned from Equestria Daily and Princess Molestia dubs, it’s really no wonder I turned out the way that I did. (Mentally ill, distrusting, a maladaptive daydreamer, asexual, fearful of everything, and award-winning fanfiction author.) I was on TikTok the other day, and heard Rainbow Factory for the first time in years, and in the past five years nothing, I mean NOTHING, has triggered my fight of flight response like that did. In one second my hackles were raised and I was a terrified 14yo stumbling across yet another disgusting My Little Pony rabbit hole that was no doubt going to give me terrible fear-induced hallucinations later. Cupcakes, SMILE HD, all of the .exe series (which looking back on, totally slaps), Rainbow Factory, and a metric crapton of tumblr ask blogs have wounded me unlike anything else. MLP was my biggest comfort, HOWEVER, it was also probably the most harmful thing for me at the time. Hooboy, I haven’t even started the video yet, and I’m all kinds of fired up and also kind of scared to bring back any memories I managed to repress.

Something Sweet To Bite is still the best after all these years. Nothing even comes close. Knackerman is still one of my fav grimdark writers. I think A Puppet to her Game and Cheerilee's Garden: Scarlet Harvest also deserve a mention. 2 deep, psychological stories.

I think rainbow factory would work more if instead of literally killing every failure from the test, they put them to work in harsh conditions and they work their until they die, it would be more real and depressing than the whole “grinding ponies into rainbows” also removing rainbow dash would make it better too since she was just ploped in there for the sake of it.
The only creepypasta that actually made present me genuinely nauseous was 'Cherrylee's garden'

This doesn’t qualify as a creepypasta but I distinctly remember a creepy video that was twilight sending a letter to Princess Celestia talking about gods and becoming one, paired with a news voiceover about bodies being found partially eating at SugerCube corner. The only visual was a dim view of g3 twilight.
The OG video has been purged from TH-cam and I have not found it since. But it freaked me out as a kid and intrigued me at the same time. I don’t think I’ll ever get the distorted twilight voice and weird flesh tearing sounds out of my head….

This definitely wasn't a creepypasta, but I remember reading this short EQG comic strip on DeviantArt where Sunset was eating marshmallows, decided to look up what was in them, and learned gelatin was/could be made from horse hooves and was traumatized.
Kinda wish you mentioned more about muffins in the cupcakes section, cause let me tell you it's super good, there's read alloweds on TH-cam made by the creator (before you say anything, yes ik the creator was hacked, but she was able to get back her channel, so all the videos are back up) it even includes some nice art. It fleshes out everything a whole lot more, even including Pinkies sisters, Applebloom, Babs and even Derpy.
If you want more of a story to cupcakes, that's your go to series, there's a LOT to it.
It even goes into detail on how the massacre started.

I played Story of the Blanks when I was about ten or eleven, completely unaware that it was a horror game and I remember having the shit scared out of me when I examined the fireplace and the enemies started coming after me. Nowadays I think the game is pretty cool considering it is a creepypasta thing but yeesh, the childhood trauma. xD

God, there was this one mlp creepypasta game I remember from when I was younger.
You followed the story of a mare who was looking for work in the town of Ponyville, eventually leading to her getting hired at a mental institution run by Fluttershy. Eventually you find out Fluttershy has been mutilating her patients and selling them to the circus. The ending was very heavily inspired by the song "Dark Woods Circus" and it genuinely terrified me as a kid. Can't for the life of me remember the name of it though.
The game is named Part Time Job.

I never see people talking about "My Little Amnesia," i used to be so scared of the video with their voices and images + Speedpaints, only to recently find out it was a fanfic made in 2011-2013

I remember reading this fanfic called Asylum where Twilight was in an insane Asylum and was certain her memories of the show were real and some unknown villian has taken over equestria. I never actually finished it so I don't know if there's a real ending but it was told pretty ambiguous over whether Twilight was correct about her memories or whether or not she's just insane and imagined it all.

The Story of the Blanks made me wanna cry more than piss myself tbh and I wanted to forget it but after being reminded I wanna cry even more now
When I was little (before I even knew about the pinkie pie creepy pastas) she was always my favourite because even in season 1, she was so happy and crazy that I generally believed that she was some sort of phsycopath with dark intentions that will be shown in later seasons but after seeing the creepypasta, only then did I realise that it would never be canon and I was so disappointed that she would never become a villain of pure insanity.
so, fun fact about cupcakes, someone actually wrote an entire concept album/"rock opera" style thing about it, with some extra headcanons of their own. the album is called "something broke: the continuing tale of pinkie pie and ponycide" and it's REALLY interesting as a weird old piece of brony fan media. TWs for violence obviously, and for mentions of child abuse in pinkie's past. there might be other upsetting stuff too, i haven't listened to the whole thing in like...a decade more or less. so enter at your own risk

I once listened dubbed version of Rainbow Factory. Acording to the dubber, Wooden toaster's song was inspired by the fanfic not vise-versa.
Also Dubber mentions that there is the messy original fanfic and the simplified fanfic whitch he choosed the ladder because it more made sense than the caotic original whitch is literal Rainbow Dash feverdream.

My favorite MLP creepypasta would DEFINITELY have to be the one where twilight sends letters to Celestia, documenting her fascination with murder and ending up killing a random pony. It's chilling and really made me feel how twilight felt at the moment. I've felt the same type of curiosity she did and that makes the whole story even more haunting.
As for the one that disturbed me the most, that would honestly have to be Something sweet to bite. Some might say it's cheap and not scary at all but it really disturbed me personally.

Actually apple jack does have an evil counter part, apple jack in the apple sleep experiment, I recommend the grim dark reading, it’s pretty good!
