I said this in another comment section but did anyone else notice the stoic look on Ahsoka's face completely went away when she heard anakin? She went from super serious Ahsoka, and right back into classic wide-eyed Ahsoka mode in an instant. Great little detail there.

@@LetsGetitBoahYea, she probably needs som closure about that. Also the info we got about her and Sabines falling out because of Sabines parents passing might be part of her low key mood. Many things have probably contributed to that and I bet we'll see more "Snips" in her on the latter half of the show.. at least in the end hopefully.

Regarding the Sabine and Shin fight scene, I don't think Sabine actually used the Force on Shin. I think it was more Shin flinching, anticipating herself getting Force Pushed by Sabine, not unlike how we naturally flinch when we think someone's about to throw something at our face.
Also, I think the fight choreography for Baylan is interesting as it is very much based around knightly sword techniques. Which, I feel is intentional to code him as something of an anti-villain, perhaps as a foil to Ahsoka's more anti-hero traits.

I don't get how she can hate on this choreography, I thought they were incredible, they were calcualted, precise and it felt like every swing had meaning behind it, you could see them trying to read eachother, those first 3 clashes trying out the waters, so good. You can see Baylan used the same stance as qui-gon meaning he specialiced in the aggressive Form IV Ataru, you could see this with how aggressive he was and each swing was strong. Well, my big complaint is regarding the super-slow spin moves. Spins with swords are always terrible, but they were tolerable in Clone Wars and Rebels because they were lightning-fast. For some people analyzing and picking something apart is part of how we enjoy it.

I actually really love Sabine in this episode (and the show in general), because the inconsistency with Rebels tells a story of change. And we got clear clues to that here, too, with Balin revealing the tragedy of her family. Ahsoka is also different, and I think that's also telling about change; she let Balin get in her head and literally unbalance her, and she dipped into dark side rage with Shin. As much as I love Rebels (probably my favorite animated show), I don't think I would have wanted to see the characters exactly as they were and I'm very satisfied to see the weight of the years on all of them.

Someone has REALLY been studying their samurai-style sword forms and putting them into the choreography for Dawson. Goes very well with the katana-styled saber hilts that Ahsoka wields.
I loved how Huyang held his own against HK droids.
Personally, I think that, since they de-aged Anakin at the end of the re-do of ROTJ from the older original Anakin, it makes sense that his age stays the same here.
Considering how deeply flawed Sabine has been when her family is concerned (and counting Ezra as that), it also makes sense that she'd be that flawed to simply want to get to Ezra regardless of the cost.
And, yes...I had the same general thought in that Marrok was a construct. But your theory of being a construct of Witch design makes it even better. His fatal flaw was the same as Maul's against Kenobi: Spinning the double-blade in overconfidence to be fatally wounded from that hubris.

Regarding Sabine, I think it a logical and fundamental conflict with trying to make a Mandalorian adopt the Jedi ways. Their entire culture revolves around the importance of family, of connection.
The old Jedi way operates in diametric opposition to that. A Jedi is required to abandon connections and embrace only the will of the Force (in their interpretation of it).
Jedi leave people behind to their fate if the greater good is served. Mandalorians may also do so only if the ongoing mission surely cannot be completed if they don’t but given the choice, they will fight to save their kin and believe the mission will benefit from their greater numbers and kinship.
Jedi will leave even a Nabooan Senator behind in the desert waste if the greater good is in pursuing a valued enemy. They will take a farmboy away from his family. They will separate a slave child from his mother.
TLDR: Sabine ain’t about that life.

    Interesting note on Marrok.
The hyperspace ring is called "The Eye of Sion."
Sion was a Sith Lord in the RPG Knights of the Old Republic 2. He kept himself alive through sheer hate and pain and perserverance in the Darkside when his physical form should have long crumbled to dust.
Marrok is basically dust inhabiting what seems to be a sealed suit, almost like Johann Kraus from Hellboy or a Thousand Suns soldier from Warhammer.
My guess, he's either some ancient Sith (I mean, less likely if Ahsoka made him look like nothing.) that's riding in a suit. Or he's a force spirit of some kind that Morgan Elsbeth bound into that Armor. Because as soon as you see the gas release, the body compresses. The 'Gas' or 'Spirit Dust' let's call it? Was also kind of green. Green "Force" or "Magic" energy is usually associated with Nightsister or Dathomir Witches.
That's where my money is riding. So I'm willing to bet we might see either him again, or more "Inquisitors" like them.

It's sad that it has come down to using the Lightsabres like it was a 60kg Claymore and overpowering the opponent instead of outskilling them. Episode 1-3 were kinda rough because they've just started using CGI there but even there Jedi appearted to be much more skilled and powerful. I really don't want to start a big argument here now. I mean sure, you always can find weird reasons for anything if you try hard enough I guess. If you wanna call actors, who don't care and train enough for their action performance a style, fine. If anyone had a more simple but powerful style it was Mace Windu and even his fights back then looked better than the canadian lumberjack duels we're getting now. I'm also not hating on this fight, though. This fight was pretty good compared to all the other Disney crap. I'm hating on Disney in general but that's a different story. What I am criticising is the fact, that the writers took away Ahsoka's brain in this fight and they do that to all their characters because their own brain is so small. They just didn't bother coming up with a better solution to reach this outcome than her holding a boiling hot sphere in her hand until that hand became useless and incapable of fighting so she was going to lose. THAT is the main problem with Disney. They think their audience is braindead and unfortunately it even works for the most part.
One more thing - in the prequels, despite all the horrible CGI beginnings and stuff, you always had the impression that Jedi and Sith are somewhat superhuman, super skilled and well trained. Obviously as they train since being a child. Since Disney took over, that is gone. All of it. Instead we got Mary Sue Rey and Emo Lumberjack Kylo with his weird sword to make up for his lack of charisma and a threatening appearance. What is the only real unique selling point about this franchise compared to other SciFi? Right, Jedi, Sith, Lightsabers. Take all that away and you have the most generic SciFi. Good for them that there are cheap merchandise objects that can be placed as the main characters sidekick to sell a horrible show huh.. ;) @@perssontm1628

But this fight was really cool and I don't get how you can critique it at all.
Every swing was precise and calculated, the only difference was that he used strength to tire her out. You could see him using the same stance as qui-gon which again would explain WHY he relied on overpowering her. Mace windu was the only one who used Vapaad btw.

Well, it doesn't come off as easy as it used to in the sequels. It's like they made up the fights more like ordinary humans would fight and I think that reduces the overall quality heavily. I don't know how you can even say something like 'every swing was precise and calculated' because you just can't know. There are so many cuts in that fight because, trust me, without having all those cuts it would look like shit. Just compare Obi-Wan fighting Anakin in Ep 3 to this fight here. I mean come on, you can't possibly tell me that this was even half as good. I'm not even talking about individual performance here. The way it's made already is so much worse here compared to back then. Why? Before accepting these roles those actors probably never had anything to do with Star Wars and Lightsabers acting-wise. So at that point it just comes down to if they have that 'certain something' to do it. You know, it's one thing to spool down a choreo. It's a whole different level if you actually know what would be great now in a Jedi~ish fight. No one would have to write me a choreo, I could write my own and I promise you - it would be better than what we saw here. Like...so much better, oh my god. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Rosario Dawson doesn't have it. Getting even to where she is now was a lot of work I can guarantee it. The problem is, that Disney has realized, that their main audience are mainstreamers by now. They don't really care, they don't know any better. So they can save money toning down the fight quality to this instead of having great overall effects, many force effects, speed, high jumps or whatever.
Again, I'm not trying to say this fight was garbage. But you're literally saying it was perfect, nothing can be criticized and that, sorry, is as false as it can be. It was probably the best Disney fight so far but again - that doesn't mean ANYTHING at all. But we can agree to disagree, that's fine with me. :)@@perssontm1628

    Lightsaber fights:
The good ones tell a story of their own. Ray Stevenson's character was using his size advantage and was using big, heavy blows and making the most of his longer reach. Ahsoka was fighting with agility and finesse. When you get that combination fighting each other, it can look a little clumsy because the big guy can power through with his strength, but he leaves himself open to counters. He has to hold back a little, while still pushing his faster and more agile opponent to keep her from getting up close. And with lightsabers, it only takes one mistake.
If it were two agile fighters, it would look much more acrobatic and good for the screen. Two big fighters and it would have looked savage, with big blows exchanged. Mix of the two and they're both slightly out of tempo with each other, but the big guy has longer reach. Plus, while Ray Stevenson has done some fight scenes in other things he's done, he's still an actor, not a martial artist. Rosario Dawson can dance, and as far as fight choreography goes, it's effectively dancing. Did you know that Michelle Yeoh isn't a martial artist, she's a dancer? Yet she can look like she's spent years doing martial arts.

When we transition from the seas to the World Between Worlds, Ahsoka appears to have the same green smokey wisps on the edges of her form. We saw the same effect on the holograms on Morgan's ship, the Eye of Sion. Which I think uses Nightsister magick. So I think when Ahsoka grabbed the map ball with her bare hands, she was burned by the same Magick. How it saved her from falling off the cliff & transported her to the WBW I'm not sure. But I think this will ultimately turn out to be a Magick induced vision while the real Ahsoka is knocked out on a rock at the bottom of the cliff. And that the Nightsister magick assisted vision is Ahsoka's subconscious finally allowing her to confront her past. Which is why Hayden is de-aged, because it's the Anakin from her past. Perhaps then she will figure out that Sabine didn't fail her but Ahsoka's own trust issues but the idea of betrayal in Sabine's mind when it wasn't in there in the 1st place. Great reaction and thoughts! Personally I really liked the decision that Sabine didn't destroy the map. It made sense to me as the Sabine in this series is far more jaded and isolated. Most of all she seemed incredibly lonely. In addition her relationship with Ashoka is incredible strained. So when Ashoka commits the classic Jedi mistake of demanding the sacrifice of one of her last emotional relationships and connection I was not surprised that Sabine didn't want to go through with it.
Besides from the beginning Ashoka framed their mission as a way to get Ezra Back, while in truth she cared far more about stopping Thrawn. So her willingness to sacrifice any chance of getting him back, probably felt like a huge betrayal to Sabine. Which made her very susceptible to being convinced by Baylan.

Ashoka was making the logical decision. How many will die at the hands of Thrawn once he's able to rebuild the Empire? All her current family could die as well (Hera, Chopper, Jaycen, Ashoka, Nuyang, Zeb). I know Ezra was very important to her but you can't sacrifice an entire galaxy for one person.

@@swifty1969 I agree with you. Ashoka would have made the moral decision(at least according to idea that the need of the many outweigh the need of the few or the one), but I personally like it when protagonists act "selfishly" or emotionally over logically. Makes for a more interesting story.
But I think Ashoka is also to some degree to blame how things went down. There is a limit on what level of selflessness you can demand from someone and she didn't recognize that Sabine reached her limit. It was basically like going into battle with a brittle sword. Which is of course the result of them not having a functional master and apprentince relationship. I really respect the show for going that route, as they showed that their relationship didn't really work and now we see the consequences of that.

The title of this one is really clever, since "Fallen Jedi" can be applied to so many of the characters in the episode. Baylan, a fallen Jedi now using the Dark Side (at least a little) and working with the forces of evil. Ahsoka, who abandoned the Jedi Order, falling in a sense, and also quite literally fell off a cliff this episode. Sabine, who you could argue falls off of the typical Jedi path by giving in to emotion and handing the map to Baylan. And lastly, to Anakin, whose fall to the dark side changed the galaxy forever.
I've always thought that Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka was decent, but missing just a little tiny something that really made her click in the role, but in that little smile/laugh after Huyang requested for her and Sabine to stick together, I saw the Ahsoka I always knew from Rebels and the Clone Wars. While she's been through a lot and that would change a person, in Rebels at least she always had just a little more charm and warmth than we've seen from live action Ahsoka so far - until that moment! More moments like that please! Dawson is a really good actress and the more we utilise that talent, the better!
Surprised you weren't a fan of the choreography for the fights this time around - I really liked all of the fights in this one! I thought the choreo was a lot better than the first Sabine vs Shin fight, and a bit better than the first Ahsoka vs Marrok fight on Corellia. Baylan has a simple efficiency of movement to him that I really like because it allows him to demonstrate strength, like the way he pushed Ahsoka's blade when they were in a blade-lock, and to demonstrate experience in how he deflects Sabine's blaster bolts with no wasted movement. It makes things intense, but in a different way to how Star Wars' duels have been intense before. It's not flashy, but it's kind of brutal. Regarding the Sabine vs Shin "Force Push" I interpreted it more as Shin just flinching in anticipation of the push rather than Sabine actually mustering enough power to push Shin's head around, but there was a hint of the Force sound effect in there, so I wouldn't be mad if I were wrong. Rockem-Sockem Huyang was great as well of course. Marrok bursting into Nightsister Magicks like one of their reanimated zombies is fascinating, I hope we learn more there!
Sabine's choice makes sense to me. If her family died in the Mandalorian purge, and with Hera and Zeb busy trying to sort the New Republic out (and with Jacen in Hera's case), Sabine probably feels totally alone, so the slightest hope of bringing back Ezra, the family member she arguably grew closest to, probably means everything to her. Lastly, mediocre-at-best CGI de-aging affects aside (I'd literally not have bothered, Hayden doesn't look *that* much older!), I couldn't be happier that we get to see Anakin, and in The World Between Worlds, no less! Although, with that musical cue at the end, I'm uncertain how pleasant the rest of their reunion may be... All in all I think I enjoyed this episode the most of the season so far, and I can't wait to see what's next.

I also really liked how Ahsoka kept switching fighting stances while squaring off with Marrok. First she did her classic one Saber, backward stance, then she beat him after switching to Anakin's stance.

Savage Opress was a warrior augmented through Dathomiri magicks, and he also leaked green smoke when he died. I wonder if Marrok was similarly augmented by Morgan.

So Ahsoka getting her hand burned going to turn out to be like Toht in Raiders of the Lost Ark where he had the head of the staff burned into his palm, they going to use Ahsoka's burn to piece the map together?

I'm a grown-ass 56 year old and I had exactly the same reaction as you did when I heard Anakin speak! I got broke, but in the best Star Wars way possible. I agree with your comments about the de-aging, but the overall effect was still so........oh boy! I totally agree with everything else you said, about the character development, the choreography, but this series is still amazing and has the feels about it. Bring on the whales I say!!

This is more than Rebels (which is already great), this is a little exercise in style and a tribute to spaghetti westerns, Samurai films and the legendary Zatoichi. There is even a nod to Metropolis. The handling of the camera and its slow but tense pace is a visual treat. The performances live up to the simple but effective story. And Baylan, by the gods, Baylan. I simply love it.

Ahsoka has died a legit 3 times (on Mortis, on Malachor, and now here), I don't think she can die anymore since Mortis unless someone gets a hold of the Mortis gods sword since the Sister transferred her life force what ever into Ahsoka.

I like the de-aging it makes sense, His younger form would be more recognizable to her. By this time I'm sure she knows Vader is out there so to see the same version of Anakin as the one she parted from would bring her more peace, make her trust him more as I'm sure he'll be important to her escape. But as always thank you for the moments and review of this episode along with future ones. I always look for your reactions I refuse to watch anyone else's until I see yours. You just feel like you're watching the episode or movie with someone real, you don't hold back, you make jokes, puns, you cry which is just such a human thing to do and something that helps us all relate and feel connected to you I freakin love this channel. Never stop being you Damnit 😊

You have to keep in mind that Sabine's entire family was recently killed on Mandalore (probably during the purge?)
She views Ezra as one of the few people she has left that she considers family.

I wonder if by the end of this season we are going to either hear Ahsoka say "I am no Jedi" again or after meeting with Anakin if he will teach a lesson about his fall to the dark side and she will return to the Jedi way to help build the Jedi order with Luke.

Hey, Angela! Easily one of the high points of the DPlus era ranking with the heist episode of "Andor" and eclipsed only by the Season 2 finale of "The Mandalorian"!
    Huyang throws down!
Ahsoka said the thing! "HEIR TO THE EMPIRE"! Shout-out to Timothy Zahn!
Fan theories shredded as cleanly as a laser swipe from Ahsoka shredded Marrok! Either he was a gaseous alien in a pressurized suit like Johann Krauss from "Hellboy" and the Inquisitor from "Tales of the Jedi" or he was a dead Inquisitor reanimated by Elsbeth's Nightsister magick! They should have used a more phosphorescent green vapor to eliminate debate.
I loved the Sabine Force fake-out that took Shin by surprise! "You have no power." "Yeah? I'm still a Mandalorian, bi%ch!"
PAUL SUN-HYUNG LEE crosses over from "Mandalorian" as he reprises CARSON TEVA!
Baylan knew Anakin but loathes his transformation into Vader. He genuinely respects Ahsoka. He is not a Thrawn fanboy. He feels morally obligated to fulfill a purpose that
serves the greater good. His motivations remain as compelling as they are mysterious. The ladies are saying he's putting out hot daddy vibes but, whatever it is, RAY STEVENSON was magnificent!
Loved Ahsoka's samurai half-squat stance with leveled sword.
Baylan is a beast like an armored medieval knight with a broadsword! Heavy, arm-quaking blows!
The map sphere scorches Ahsoka's hand! Did it leave an imprint in the flesh?
Sabine lost Ursa and Tristan in the NIGHT OF A THOUSAND TEARS! Ahsoka prevented her from being at her family's side when Mandalore fell!
Treachery! Sabine can't bring herself to abandon Ezra. This is why Jedi have no attachments! Poor kid.
The 'Ghost' and the X-wing escort thought they could block the hyperspace ring from transiting but they had no idea the MEGASTRUCTURE had the power to gouge a hole in space-time right through them completely avoiding high-velocity collision! They got swept up like leaves in the backwash eddy!
THE WORLD BETWEEN WORLDS! The NEXUS of all reality! Did Ahsoka die a third time or did the essence of the Daughter within her enable her to access this plane inadvertently as she fell?
De-aged HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN! Snips and Skyguy reunite but why does Vader's theme play?
JACEN is a chip off the old block and feels a tremor in the Force! He gets the honor of the franchise's catchphrase: "I've got a bad feeling about this." Lol.
    Thank you, Dave Filoni!

To each their own and your mileage may vary, of course, but I thought this ep was exactly Sabine, through and through. She’s always been good and always cared about the larger universe, and she’s always tried to do the right thing. But she’s also passionate, impetuous, stubborn, and so loyal that it can often drift past the point of good sense. Add on to that what Baylan was saying, about how apparently Ahsoka wouldn’t trust Sabine and let her go to help her family fight for Mandalore when the empire glassed it (savage, Snips…) and the rift and bad feelings between she and Ahsoka make sense, as does Sabine deciding this time she’s not going to miss a chance to go save her family (here, Ezra) no matter what Ahsoka thinks. It’s not a good decision, but our characters can never grow and learn (much less progress the plot the way Dave needed her to there) without making bad decisions sometimes.
Also - there is simply no way Sabine doesn’t have a plan in mind. She’s not accepting Baylan’s words at face value, I don’t think, she’s using him as a way to get to Ezra, with some kind of plan involving joining up with Ezra when she finds him and stopping Thrawn and Baylan and Shin and Morgan then. Of course it won’t quite go that way, but I’m pretty sure that’s where her head is at.

Well Ahsoka said, she needs Sabine to be herself not a Jedi. So maybe she knew that Sabine was going to do what she did and get on that ship heading to Thrawn and Ezra.

  • @pemberliegh

tbh i think Sabine isn't the same person we knew back in rebels and handing over the map has a lot to do with what happened between rebels and now that we haven't seen (yet, hopefully). baylan closed his eyes and was reading her in that moment, her worst fears. the last time she listened to ahsoka, her whole bio family died in the purge of mandalore and he's using her desperation not to lose ezra forever. she can't get her mom and dad and brother back. but this is her chance to get ezra. he tried to do that with ahsoka, too, put her off balance by bringing up abandoning anakin, but sabine doesn't have the emotional control ahsoka does. you can probably make an argument that they should have done a full reveal on what happened to her so we understand why now she can't risk losing this chance to get him back, but i like what they are doing. the little hints. im hoping we get some flashback peeks about it in the WBW.
i was having fun with all the marrok theorizing but i love what they did. omg and literal lol.
i also hope that they handle it right to explain the WBW to casuals who haven't watched the animated shows. i want that. emotional closure w anakin and ahsoka. flashbacks. and the thrawn drop. that's what i want from 5.

I just wanna say that the transition from watching the star map site and panning out over the sea and then to Ahsoka waking up in the world between worlds is the sickest shit. Whatever cinematographer came up with that transition deserves several pats on the back.
