  • HELIOS 44 - VINTAGE LENS RESTORATION
    I bought this early version of the popular Helios 44 from ebay for £17. I was looking for another helios but wanted the KMZ version and this one was cheap enough and would make a good project.
    It has 13 aperture blades and an extra dial for changing aperture.
    LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

    If anyone knows the mount I need to convert to EF I'd be grateful. I've converted to m43 with 100% success but I need this to be EF

      @@rickylefleur2158 I don't think that's it bro. This mount looks like an m43/ef mount with the 3 tabs...it's just smaller.
      Not a screw mount 😔

      Bummer, i rewatched it. Well if everything else fails: Loctite Professional Liquid Super Glue - but ensure you set the backspacing / infinity focus right before applying the glue :D

      @@rickylefleur2158 yeah it's a bummer. Well I've got it working on 2 out of 4 camera's so it's all good if I can't convert to EF.

      Thank you. I'm not sure of the material the Helios is made from but if it's some sort of aluminium you may be better off with a product called BIRCHWOOD ALUMINIUM BLACK.
      It only works on aluminium though so please check the metal on lens.

    Great job! Looks brand new. May I ask, what sandpaper did you use? I plan on doing a similar type of work to one of my lenses

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man.
      I used about p100 for the deep scratches and then p150 to smooth it out. You can then use a p200 for final or go straight to polish.
      If going fine like p200 I'd put a dab of water just to stop any fine particles going under the ring. This really should be taken apart but in my case it worked well.
