  • For Episode #116 we caught up with legendary Yes keyboardist, Patrick Moraz. We discuss his groundbreaking work on Yes' Relayer album and the massive tours that followed. Our co-host is Thomas Palmieri, founder of one of the best US progressive rock festivals, ProgStock. Patrick will be performing there in October of 2023. We look at the weekend's lineup and get some detailed background info on the fest. Patrick discusses his years before joining Yes. His early years playing jazz and classical, even opening for John Coltrane. We chat about the various keyboards he has favored over the years. Also, his work on his solo album The Story of I, and his contributions to other Yes solo works like Steve Howe's Beginnings and Chris Squires' Fish Out Of Water. His contributions to Yes' Relayer album and the follow up are discussed as well, along with the massive tours Patrick did with Yes at the height of their popularity. And much more!

Halo, I have to say that I really like their program! I find it very pleasant how they restrain themselves and how politely they deal with their guests. I wish you continued success and please continue with your TH-cam program.

What a wonderful interview! This was another delight, thanks. I just watched an interview with Gentle Giant about the new Interview remix and Dereck said that on tours with Yes Patrick was the only one that was ever friendly with them.

So great to hear Patrick. Along with Tony Kaye Patrick was my favorite YES keyboardist. Of course your earlier interview with Kaye is a great companion to this one, I highly recommend listeners find that interview as well.
Moraz also made some nice solo albums but also contributed nicely to those first solo albums by the YES members (Steve Howe's 'Beginnings' and Chris Squires 'Fish Out Of Water') when they all took a break to do them back around 1975. I wish he had continued with the band much longer. P.S. Patrick has done a really nice version of Genesis' 'Los Endos' on one of those Genesis tribute albums...
    Another fine interview Sean!

Corrections: John Coltrane passed away in 1967 not 66, and Jan Hammer is from Czechoslovakia not Austria.

I have always thought his contribution took Yes to a new level. That he did not last more than one album is a real loss.
