The archer is meant to be a direct fire missle boat so it doesn't need a spotter, which is a specialized skill in most use cases. It also has enough armor to stand with the heavy Lance and enough back up weapons to give good account of itself.

It is a very good generalist! It can fight at mid range, and has a little bit of close range bite with lasers and battlefists!
It makes a good guard for your rear line as well, fighting at long range, and moving to engage once the enemy tries to close in. Thanks for the comment!

The jagermech JM6-A is not a bad mech. Drops the AC5s for two LRM15s and two tons more armor. Still more under armored than i would like, but it is able to stay farther back non, fire over terrian with LRMs, and still provide anti air support. Would still pick a different mech if able, but the A vairaint is very much better than the S.
    Great video.

JM6-D is a nightmare opponent in Mechwarrior games where Autocannon damage rates are pushed up by a high rate of fire. They still go down fast but they can do tons of damage if you don't focus them instantly.

Any tips on how to use a catapult? I feel like it is a good long range design but it often ends up being focused down by more close range mechs, and while it is decent at close range, it won't win from a thunderbolt.

@@elithradril it is fragile for a heavy with less armor than some mediums. It wants to use its JJs and mobility to keep away and try to get 2 TMM+cover(preferably from heavy woods.)
Find a hill with trees somewhere and bomb with LRMs. Use it to guard other more fragile LRMs. Have a solid battleline to intercept the enemy's, and a good light hunter like a wraith to stop flankers. It's not a perfect unit, but it's solid support. I prefer an Archer since it trades the JJs for armor.

@@TheManyVoicesVA Since I only have the game of armored combat set for now, I tried making 2 balanced lances to fight each other. Right now I use the catapult with the battlemaster as frontliner and the wolverine as interceptor, while the other team gets the thunderbolt + awesome + shadowhawk.

@@elithradril awesome! If u want to try out other designs, just print out the record sheet from Megameklab, cut out a cardboard token and slap a picture of it with an arrow to designate front facing. Or just use like... anything with an arrow and the unit designation on it in sharpie. Bottlecaps or whatever else you have.

I've never seen 720p50 format before. Wild. It works, but is a bit fuzzy on my screen. What I'd like to know is, how on Earth did you upload in that framerate? I didn't even know it was an option. lol
Otherwise liked the video, by the way. I eat up the Battletech content, especially fresh stuff from new creators.

Ask TH-cam. All my stuff is 1080 and 30 FPS from this period lol. There was a thing where they removed 720p from all small channels for a while... idk what is happening now.

Glass cannon direct fire are some of the worst mechs in game.

If you're stuck with machines like the Jager or clan Hellbringer they depend on a defensive screen.
If your opponent wants to close take reliable shots (and they do because it could quickly take a very annoying piece off of the board) they need to advance past heavy hitters in short range and expose their rear armor.
Supposing your opponent doesn't fall into that trap, the support mech is a cheap initiative sink and can switch targets easily to threaten anything that exposes a rear facing, an exploitable armor breach, or low defensive modifiers.
