    A friend introduced me to this album when it came out. What made it memorable were the bird sound effects on the first cut. I knew it was out there, and I was looking for it ever since (didn't know the name or even the cover). HERE IT IS, after over 50 years !! THANKS !

    Another undervalued album by Pink Floyd. It is wildly uneven and has some hauntingly beautiful songs, especially the opening track Cirus Minor with its dreamy lyrics that make your mind drift like a leaf caught in the gentle current of warm wind. I've never seen the film so I don't know how the songs are used. I heard the versions differ from film to album. I prefer this period of the band's history. They created some of their most beautiful songs. It was not 60's psychedelia or the doom and gloom that would define their sound from Dark Side to The Wall (I still cannot include The Final Cut as a proper Pink Floyd album). Here we find the band experimenting with different styles, slowly evolving. Sadly these songs never make it on to any of the retrospective CDs. Seriously, who really needs another remastered version of Money? I'd love to pick songs for a retrospective collection and avoid anything from Dark Side and beyond.

      Yes, a song made for headphones. The effects get a little lost if you're listening to it on speakers from across the room. You need those effects buzzing around in your head. Same with the song Cirrus Minor. It's sad the band seemed to have abandoned these great songs once they reached Dark Side and beyond. Roger Waters once stated in an interview that the one album he'd "toss into the dustbin" was Atom Heart Mother, viewing it as " pompous". I think it's overly harsh and the second side has a few good songs,especially Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. Another song best listened to on headphones.

      Really?? The Nile Song was pure sarcasm, & the only song I DIDn't like on this album! Tho it was funny, 'fer sher, and the lyrics were great, just too loud to listen to repeatedly, at least for me. This was my 'favourite' album to play start to finish, several decades ago now (on an actual vinyl turntable, no less), mostly for the 'natural' feel of the thing intermingled with gentle psychedelia & the dreamlike spiritual presence it had overall. Something tells me our tastes in music would likely be widely & wildly diverse from one another, so it's quite bizarre that we could or would both end up here with the same favourite album!

      That's probably because the Stones and the Beatles were more mainstream in their music. Some of Floyd's music is hard to listen, especially the atonal jazz inspired music, to compared to the more approachable rock and blues of the Beatles and the Stones.

    • @bourbonsnob8218

      The Beetles and Stones were Pop bands at the time. The Stones got harder into rock. The Beetles just fizzled out. Pink Floyd went further with progrock and transended music as a whole. You can catch a little of all genres in their music. The Beetles and Stones sold out to "ride the gravy train." Floyd never cared about all that, and it kept their recoedung pure and honest.

    Great album! Released April 1969. Soundtrack to the European cult film MORE. I saw it at an art theater in L.A. in 1971. Not much of a movie, but the music is awesome!
    Their first album without Syd Barrett's involvement. Gilmour really shines here in a few licks, and Rick Wright's keyboards are amazing. But it's when the band all crank up the guitars and drums that they really kick some serious Rock with "The Nile Song" and "Ibiza Bar". I especially love their folky acoustic guitar and vocals on "Green is the Colour" and "Cymbaline".

    This album is the first of Pink Floyd without Syd Barret, the until then songwriter, singer and lead guitar of the group. They alienated the group’s main founder for his problems with LSD (Syd is not his name, it's his nickname and comes from a diminutive of acid lol) and various mental disorders, mainly a schizophrenia derived from substance abuse.
    The fan base did not give a penny for the group, as they did not believe they could get out of Syd’s shadow. In this album, one of the least sold of the musical line-up, they were experimenting to create an image far from that of "Syd’s band". The results of this experimentation are seen on the albums immediately after, but these songs could be considered a transition period for the group

    I inherited this album in 1968-9 or so when I moved into an apartment that someone had left hurriedly. I recognized the cover and the playlist immediately, but I remember a lot of other things differently. I don't recall the title "More" at all. What I remember is the name of the movie ("The Valley" or "La Vallee") and either a subtitle or something that read "Obscured By Clouds." Not sure what that meant. Also the female co-star was named Mimsy Farmer. Maybe this stuff was on the back of the jacket. Anyway, I liked the tunes enough to buy Ummagumma, and that's all she wrote.

    Mon album préféré du Pink Floyd le plus proche de Mozart. L'atmosphère est une grande réussite (donc conséquemment, le dépaysement) - La seule chose que je regrette est un certain usage de l'écho -

    I say this album is quite underrated. Some primo post Syd, Stoner, dreamy, Hash-fueled hazy tunes and soundscapes. I've mentioned this before and I can see some here on the comments concur in one way or another; this era between 'More' and 'Obscured By Clouds' is in a way their trippiest period, full of obscure gems.

    The Crying Song sounds a bit like the ending of Syd Barrett's Opel. Side one is brilliant, Floyd at their absolute best. Side two is more geared for the film but is still enjoyable.

    In a nutshell: they went through a constant growing process in order to find the holy grail, and found it. it sounds ugly, but, even the illness of Syd Barret and leaving the band was part of the magic process. So David became the perhaps most important member of the band and they evolved into THE supergroup with a lot of lucky accidents. the zenith of their creativity has been between Meddle and The Wall.

    • @patrickkparrker413
      @patrickkparrker413 ปีที่แล้ว

      No such thing as evolved just practice and experience and time.

    • @keep_walking_on_grass
      @keep_walking_on_grass ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrickk Parrker, they became the supergroup of all supergroups because they had the gift to do so. the magic combination of Waters creativity - which can't be described in one sentence so I don't try to - plus David's incredible timbre, plus David's ideas (In fact most of the freaky stuff came from David) plus his way to handle the guitar not in a virtuos way, instead, he is the man of the stuff that really matters on the guitar: expression of emotions, which is what music Is all about. (with a virtuose such as Malmsteen who plays braindead robot arpeggios they wouldn't have achieved shit) plus Rick's ideas, plus Nick's ideas, they evolved into what they are. They aren't the best skilled musicians on their instruments, but they are the best in what they did. Doing freaky stuff that touches the listeners emotions that can't be described in words, whis is again: what music is all about! So practicing and experience has not been the most crucial thing about Pink Floyd. But it was part of it - it always is, for any band. But not any Band sells 250 million records.

    • @keep_walking_on_grass
      @keep_walking_on_grass ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucky accidents do always happen everywhere. But they recognized those and used them. Roger said that in an interview. One of the luckiest accidents Clare Torry's improvisation on "the great gig in the sky".

    This is fascinating when I saw the Dark Side of the Moon concert in April of 1975 in San Francisco during the intermission Pink Floyd were so incline is to have birds tweeting inside the Cow Palace is a completely enclosed theater Auditorium in San Francisco that's still there. You could hear the birds tweeting but you anywhere you would look you wouldn't see them it was just the same soundtrack birds tweeting they probably were playing this during intermission on a quadraphonic system it was an amazing show.
