    It’s cool hearing Slash mention Thin Lizzy. You can really hear how they influenced GNR when you listen to tracks like Warriors, Killer on the Loose, S&M, The Rocker, Black Boy on the Corner. That rare balance of soul, street cred and genuine songwriting ability

    I love how you bring out the humanity in the artists that you talk to - regular folk who have attained lofty heights, in bringing us the metal groove. Thank you for that. I have been a fan of yours since 2010, and will continue to follow all of your endeavors. Peace!

      I echo Quentin’s sentiments. I hope you will acknowledge the immense amount of pleasure you, and Banger, provide us with. The “semi-anthropological” underpinnings in your work give it extra depth, perspective, and meaning. And what a great interview!

      T \oo/ yes I do play the Les Paul Log. 2013 Gibson Les Paul Traditional no weight relief and also play a Schecter KM6 with Black Winter pups. That all goes virgin through a Marshall DSL-40c. Nothing says a sexy sound like that of a Les Paul through a Marshall amp. I did forget to toss Dave Mustaine in there somewhere. I'll stretch it to top 10 to include
      6 Dave Mustaine
      7 Stevie Ray
      8 Dan Spitz
      9 Joe Bonamasa I am starting to like this guys playing
      10 myself. I know it's a funny but you have to have inspire yourself to try to compete with these guys.
      For me I look at versatility with in the solos and song structure. Lot of my guys are lead players so I look for what kind of emotion is in their riffs and solos. Yes Jeff shreds but when it comes to Beauty Through Order or Human Stain (after the slow part) you can imagine the mosh pit going nuts

      tambor76 he wanted to just play rock music, but when he showed up to the audition they asked him "so what are you gonna be wearing?" And so he knew he wasn't gonna get the gig cause it had to do with looking glam..... GNR is better than poison anyways.....

    • @bluebehir
      @bluebehir 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, he was offered the position and he turned it down because he would have to glam it up

    • @tambor76

      If he didnt wanna glam it up then why does he do it on the early GNR photos? Makeup, lipstick, the whole nine yards. The photos are out there, just do a search.

    VH wasn't glam. They were out before that whole scene that started to fester like a wound around 81/2. They had a showy/fun presentation in the late 70s to early 80s, but they had late 70s ethos and clothes IN THE LATE 70s where it was appropriate. The problem is that damn near the entire spate of lesser bands in the 80s tried to copy their style from the prior decade and did a shit job of it. No one likes a counterfeit. It makes you look like a sellout, which they all were. They were corny cut-rate approximations that lacked the musicianship VH had. Motley Crue was a bit different with the Satanic thing and GNR was more stripped down. However, I've seen all 3 of those groups called glam at least once and incorrectly so for the most part. Crue was the closest to it with their late 80s make up years where Vince wore pink lipstick and shit. However, neither VH nor GNR was glam simply because they came out of LA like the rest. They had their own self-created looks/presentations and both of them looked different than the majority of bands that were out when either of them hit. When VH hit, most of the bands were leather/spike clad angry looking blokes. When GNR hit, everyone was glam. Similarly when GNR became popular, you started seeing shitty sounding and looking approximations of them with dudes in leather/jeans/top hats, etc. The thing that stands out about VH and GNR is not their appearances, though they both had very saleable appearances and they were better looking in a general sense than a band like Journey (ugliest band ever). It was their musical chops that made them huge as soon as they dropped and that keeps them forever well-thought of today. Meanwhile bands like RATT and Slaughter were shit on by rock fans then and now.

      Only after Eddie's death did media, and shockingly enough fans, remove VH from the "Glam" era.

      Yeah too bad he talks so much shit about glam culture and style, the scene. Oh well. He likes super loud and rougher.... I guess... somehow.
      I always thought and think GNR is Glam influenced, sort of glam style with axl rose and everything. Long hair. stylish leather stuff tophat. Reminds me of Aerosmith in a way. And also they say Hanoi Rocks as an influence and they are glam'y heavily. But thats all good.

    • @PDXguitarfreak
      @PDXguitarfreak 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was born in LA in 1971, and my family moved to Seattle in summer of 1986. At the time I moved from LA, I was very much into early thrash and punk/metal crossover. I remember seeing tons of GNR show fliers posted around town in 86 and they definitely looked VERY glam... especially Axl and Duff with big hair-sprayed hair. We considered them and Poison to be the upcoming poser kings of the LA glam scene. Maybe I'm wrong (because I never got to see them live in those days.. that just wasn't my cup of tea), but we all thought they were a local glam band too. I like Slash a lot, but I feel like he is trying to distance himself from that scene. Perhaps I'm wrong... I don't know.

    • @ankurchakrabarti31
      @ankurchakrabarti31 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Axel the Frank Who are you? A guitarist of a heavy metal band who tunes down to the point where you play shit and get away with it? And you don't even solo? Honestly, posers don't make this far. These guys did. So your point is pretty lame and invalid.

    • @CodamATW
      @CodamATW 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thrasher This. Slash even said in the video that they used a little make-up in the beginning, but they dropped it before AfD even came out.
