great guest, thanks for having him on. nick will always have a certain legendary status among those of us who started banking careers in the 90s and i'm glad to see he is doing well.
Really ? Destroying peoples lives by losing their pensions? F him
Crooked behaviour in the world of finance, who would have guessed that?
A conman , a cheat , a liar and a thief ..... Sounds like the qualifications for a politician .
You forgot 'psychopath'.
👍
Some may never have respect for him, but the lesons his acting produced are definitely relevant and drive current financial services industry. So, let's say he took the shot, even lots of scandals continue to arise, this guy saved other traders from falling onto the same steps.
End of problem, governments Don t get involved with banks when they go bankrupt Don t bale them out.
Heh.... I remember a younger Nick saying how much be basically hates people. You can still it in his eyes... 😉
It was people like that made us tax payers bail out the banks. . As well as him the majority of bankers should be inside with all assets seized
Not it was mate...it is
Nah Nick's alright
The incompetence of others to check Leeson's actions does not excuse his fraudulent behaviour one little bit....
Crook, plain & simple. And betrayer of trust
He wasn’t a thief.
@@peterd788 tell that to Barings share holders
@@pobinr Leeson’s activities to hide his embarrassment were remarked upon by more than 20 people and reported to senior managers long before his losses came even close to the bank’s reserve capacity to write off. Management didn’t respond in any way because they wanted to believe a reported profit from one man rather than the losses noticed by 20. Senior management could easily have crystallised the losses using reserves and instead let them grow by over half a billion dollars more to the point when the combined reserves and any possible refinancing couldn’t possibly cover its position. Leeson started the ball rolling but senior management hand ample opportunity to stop it but didn’t. Leeson was 28 and the 21 executives that lost their jobs because they ignored repeated warnings had an average age of nearly 50. They didn’t do their jobs.
Nick was a scapegoat. He gambled and lost and was prosecuted for it. What about all those who gambled and won. Were they admonished for using clients' money or were they lauded for the profits they made? Didn't hear of any at the time.
Lauded. You're welcome
Should have asked him if he took bonuses, that’s the theft
A bit like it is now then
Bonuses paid to him. The only part of this interview to take notice of. Everything else he says is piffle.
Ahh an author on to flog his book!
