For the Virtual Boy all you need to do is look at the manual. It wasn't a manual but a warning booklet, all the pages were nothing but warnings in red text.
I had (and still have, but it doesn't work now) a virtual boy. It had warning about taking a break after like 30 mins i think. But as a kid i would just ignore it. That was a bad idea. The eye pain was horrible, almost made me puke. That thing needed a wire to plug into the wall. It would eat batteries faster than anything I've ever owned.
I remember when those were being cleared out. I nearly bought one myself, just for the novelty, but end up not doing so. Looking back, kinda wish I did, again just for the novelty. Not like I would've actually spent any real time playing it, though.
I bought the OG HTC Vive back in 2016. I specifically upgraded my system for it. It wasn't OP, but it ran most games just fine. That said...it just wasn't what I thought it'd be. The ideas behind the games were decent enough, and I had a lot of fun. However, if you added up all the hours I spent in VR...it'd probably be around 30-40 hours, total, in all games and apps, if that. It was heavy, was like looking through a vintage scuba mask, didn't fit my face, it hurt my nose, made my face sweat, it'd shake and move around on my face with the slightest speed of movement, and it had a bundle of wires coming out of it that were far too easy to trip on or get tangled up in. Loved the idea, but it just wasn't there yet. Haven't tried any new VR since then. Still, it wasn't a totally bad experience. I had a lot of fun for 30 min to an hour at a time, here and there. It still blew my mind when I first booted it up. I bought it before even trying any VR myself. My first thought was how much better tech like that could be in the future. I wasn't as impressed with the actual visuals at the time, just the execution of concept given the limitations. It just wasn't for me and wasn't what I expected. Not something that could ever replace gaming on a monitor for me. I'm curious what the more modern and advanced VR systems are like these days, but, I'm not willing to gamble on it again. Nor do I got the money. The OG Vive alone was already $600 USD at the time...on sale. I was, and still am, far from rich. I was just younger and dumber and thirsty for new tech. I still have it, in its box, but it hasn't been hooked up in years. My biggest regret was the money I spent on the headset and all the games/apps. As for the gaming pc upgrades, those carried me for almost 7 years (thank you i5 6600k and GTX 1080 lol, still working in the old build!). The PC upgrades were well worth their cost. Haven't plugged in the Vive since about 2019, though. I can only imagine the disappointment of early adopters of the Virtual Boy! The VB probably would've got me back in the day if I had any income whatsoever at the time lol. I liked your takes on this vid. Keep at it.
The virtual boy was definitely way ahead of its time but it was just terrible. I was luckily saved from getting one of these for a Christmas Gift as a teenager. I remember wanting one so bad. We made a trip to the mall and JC Pennies had one set up in their electronics section, I was so excited!! About 20 minutes in I was disappointed and was like this thing sucks . So when I found my mom in the store I told her I didn’t want at virtual boy anymore. Nice video!!
I think the Neo-Geo AES could have been in there, 1-1 arcade experience at home wasn't really ready yet hence the games and system being extremely overpriced
The PSVR2 would sell better if more people could afford it, plus a PS5, and if you had a PSVR you can forget playing any of those games on the PSVR2 because they thought it would be a good idea to cut themselves off at the knees. I'm seeing a great deal of shotty, complacent management for the PS5 which is new for Sony I think. At least as far as the Playstation is concerned. Heck, every other generation of Playstation has somewhat of a decent catalog of games by this point after launch. I'm not the only one who is underwhelmed by the titles the PS5 and PSVR2 have to offer. Get this. If I sell my PSVR for a PSVR2, I'll no longer be able to play: • Iron Man VR • Skyrim VR • Ace Combat 7 VR • Star Wars Squadrons VR • Doom VFR • Gran Turismo Sport VR (PSVR2 does have Gran Turismo 7, but why couldn't they just upgrade Sport?) • Astrobot Rescue (underrated) • Dreams The list goes on, some things I don't remember the name but I enjoyed it, like this glider simulator game. Sony decided for us that these games won't be missed, when VR gaming is still in its infancy due to only moderate demand.
Virtual boy is NOT ahead of it's time. If it was, now 29 years later, we would have something simlar, don't you think? Enough of the "ahead of it's time" cliche.
I will repeat this all time! People are too lazy to put something on their head and go through several minutes of calibration to play for 15 minutes...

Great content! Came here for the TurboGrafix portion, enjoyed your presentation!
ngl, those comments make my day. Thanks so much!!

"Don't play more than 30 minutes" is, as a rule, NOT a good slogan!!
I had a friend that had a virtual boy. Just awful, but he had it set up for like 10 years.
One of the 770k proud VB owners reporting in!
Pretty good system for $30 clearance.
I'm sure the epilepsy I now have is unrelated.
LOL. And that eye twitch. See a doctor immediately.

6:19 that is awesome and terrifying

Thank you for the comment and awesome to hear your experiences!!!!
Virtual boy can be fixed. they just need new lighting and a better headset design.
I love the way you say cart-ridge instead of car-tridge. Also, Gunpei is a personal hero. He was a game boy for certain.

It's probably worth more today because of collecters than when it came out?
Before the internet, people with a really bad lisp, that gasp for air between sentences would never be given a narrator jug.
What a world we live in

I couldn't agree with you more. The fact that I can't play Skyrim VR on the PSVR2 is insane to me. You're totally correct.
Virtual Boy was ahead of it's time, Virtual Reality is still a work in product to this day apart from Sword Art Online

great video : )
Thank you!

Virtual Boy, even if you emulate it the gfx hurt the eyes and are headache inducing, truly the worst monitor for a system ever....
Excellent!
Many thanks!
I got a headache from the Super Scope 6 on the SNES. I returned it and I think I got Actraiser instead.
You're ok but you're a bit too jokey. Less jokes will make you more popular. Got it? Gooooooooooood. Get it.

Ha! Wise move. And thank you!
