Incredible! How does this only have 17,000 views? Easily two of the best versions I have ever heard of these songs. Of course, the singer was amazing. Loved her interpretation. But, the jam in Birdsong...I would gladly pay to hear this group do a three hour concert of Dead covers and just let it rip.
Well, after 30 years (sic ) I can hear the words to this song !! I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed listening to your beautiful rendition. Got to believe Jerry and the band would be the first to listen and applaud.…and appreciate the drop into Birdsong… sweet !
Dang that Ramblin’ Rose guitar solo channels Garcia, then the seamless transition into Bird Song, coupled with her incredible vocals, as well as the downtempo understated chorus and then the sax/guitar combo solo… a tour de force, well done!!!
For sheer musicianship and interpretive style, and the vocalist, this must surely be one of the winners in this year's Covers Project. If not, then I may lose faith. Well, not really after 50+ years on the bus.
The guitar work is absolutely amazing. These may be the two best covers of GD material I've ever heard. Mary Huntley McSwain's voice is simply unbelievable. I did a quick search and listened to some other stuff she has on YT, and HOLY SHIT!!!!! There are about 600 songs I would love to hear her throw that incredible voice at. Bravissimo!!! God, how I'd love to hear her sing Lil Red Rooster or Wang Dang Doodle or Turn On Your Lovelight!
Excellent playing, the singing was on a different level we could all hear that during Bird Song. The bass players were as wide as saucers! Great stuff guys.
Wow. Just, wow. This was something special, not sure how I missed this last year. Sorry I didn't get to see the drummer because that pocket was deep and wide my man! Huntley, we'll be hearing more from you I have no doubt! Gorgeous voice. What I LOVED about this is you all absolutely captured the spirit and energy of The Dead while still having your own sound. No mimicking going on here, but awesome tribute and then some. That lead on Ramble On was awesome, again, Jerry moments but it was all you! Loved those bass lines, Phil-esque but all Nate! Perfect rhythm and pianer, right where they belonged. And I thought I was back at The Garden '91 show with Branford blowing next level wonders! Beautiful jam at the end. Really amazing stuff, congratulations.
I am her father-she is currently attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston-pursuing a Master’s degree in Music with a Jazz Studies Major. And yes, you will definitely hear more from her in the future! Thank you for the kind words we parents love to hear!
Her name is Huntley McSwain-check out her performance on the New England Conservatory channel-covering Cab Calloway’s “Minnie the Moocher”. Will be dropping another jazz song soon on the NEC channel. th-cam.com/video/9jR5BrBS12o/w-d-xo.html
@@rvpjohn I used to live a block from Cab Calloway's Baltimore home. Your daughter's rendition of "Minnie" is AMAZING, as is this wonderful take on "Ramble On Rose" / "Bird Song." Thanks for supporting her art -- having supportive parents and family is enormously important. Hers is a rare example of a voice that gets every listener's absolutely undivided attention. More, please!!!!!
Absolutely nailed em! There's no doubt a future with songs to fill the air with such talented young artists such as these. Thank you for making me dance!
I'll second the above request for Sugaree. She'd SLAUGHTER it. Sugaree, into Turn on Your Lovelight, maybe, or Wang Dang Doodle? The whole band is amazing, but the vocals are just... just... completely out of this world. Every nuance perfect. If Bob Weir hears this, Ms. McSwain might find herself onstage with Dead and Company this summer, or Wolf Brothers. Damn near fell out of my chair listening to her renditions of Minnie the Moocher and Lennon's "Jealous Guy." Just WOW.
Hey Piano Man- you look stupid sitting alone with a mask on. Props to Sax Man for not playing over the vocals. Tasty vocs. Not convinced the RR guitar solo wasn't (partly) dubbed in afterwards, it didn't quite look like it lined up. But Guitar Man looks like he's enjoying himself, so I'm sold anyhow. Like the big gaps around 5:50, nice touch. Overall, a thumbs up for two fine renditions in one.
Cram it, dude. Piano player could have a gas mask on and still have more class than you. Guitar player could probably turn you inside out (if you even play). Go talk your mask crap somewhere where good people and Dead fans can't hear you.
Really awesome stuff, folks! Great vocals, great everything. Just one slight complaint: give the drummer some! I can hear what he/she is doing and it’s excellent (I’m a professional drummer), but I never see them in the video! Having said that, Ramble On, Rose! Let “something like a bird within her” keep on singin’! The vocalist isn’t Janis, but just as good in her own beautiful way.
Hey, drummer for this video here! It was my fault I’m not in the video..We recorded me playing too but I accidentally deleted my video! So that was my b. It was a big bummer haha. But I appreciate the kind words!
If you are as blown away by this singer as I am, check out some of her other work. I CANNOT stop listening to this -- especially her version of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" and Mary J. Blige's "I'm Going Down, both of which are enough to give you the chills. This young lady is a rare, rare find, and I certainly she finds time to record some more Grateful Dead songs. th-cam.com/video/X6ZojGgpy9E/w-d-xo.html (1) Fine and Mellow, Billie Holiday (2) Visions, Stevie Wonder (3) God Bless the Child, Billie Holiday (4) Save the Children, Gil Scott Heron (5) Stormy Monday, T-Bone Walker (6) Jealous Guy, John Lennon (7) I'm Going Down, Norman Whitfield / Rose Royce (8) At Last, Etta James

Agreed. People don't know what's good unless they're told. And I guess nobody told them about these kids.:(

Ha ha, I said the same…oh, THOSE are the words??!!? 😂 What a beautiful transition they did…I think the boys would love it!❤

Thanks for the kind words victor!!
She is Great!!! Somebody sign her up ASAP. She deserves to be out front all the time!!! I have not heard a voice that good for decades.

Seen 100+ entries, first one for which I’ve felt compelled to comment. Talent is off the charts brilliant, Transition to Bird Song pro-style.
Thank you for sharing this. Been a deadhead for 45 years. The music just keeps on keeping on.
So impressive. Thank each and every one of you. I played this for my kids.
This is absolutely unreal! Just when you think it's hit the ceiling it blows the roof off the joint and keeps on going! Absolutely ASTOUNDING!!
Amazing.. Aces back to back.

Wow, think Jerry's swaying in Rock n Roll Heaven.😎

You guys have got it! Face melting ⚡️❤️💀
Huntley McSwain... look her up... gonna be with us for a while. Glad she stepped out of jazz for a minute, and into the Dead.

When does the tour begin?
The gal has a great voice! Excellent take on the "Rose".... Did they break into someone's studio? That is usually a big buck proposition...
Thanks Rick! The bassist used to work at that studio - legendary Columbia A and Quonset Hut in Nashville.
How good was that? Wow.
perfect!
solid

silly with the masks
