#75 Kubota B2601 Compact Tractor HLA Grapple: Rocks and Stumps

- Took to the front lawn to remove the rest of the rocks and stumps with the B2601 Compact Tractor and the HLA Root Rake Grapple. Uncovered a few whoppers again! Who needs a Backhoe when you have a grapple.:) Hope you enjoy. Cheers! #kubota #kubotab2601 #compacttractor

You did a great job whit that grapple. It's true some time it's like an iceberg you see just the top but some time under it's way bigger.

Nicely done GP! That grapple sure does make quick work of those rocks and stumps.
I borrowed a loader bucket with teeth on it from my boss last week for my Kubota L3901. I was able to remove about 40 stumps with it around our hacienda. It popped them out like corks:)
As my tractor has the brush hog hooked up right now, I used my neighbor's L4400 with the backhoe to dig out the stumps that I couldn't get out with the tooth bucket. It worked great and I figure that I ended up taking out a total of 50+ stumps total. I still have a few more to go.
I do have an area that has several rocks in it that I might try the tooth bucket on. Once I finish mowing, I will put my backhoe back on my rig and give it a try with that. I got a mechanical thumb for it, so I am hoping it will work pretty well for removing the rocks.

That rock wall is great and I imagine it will always be in progress. I’ve been reading about your Canadian Shield and trying to reconcile all those rocks with such a nice forest. I guess Mother Nature is amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Good evening Tim. Good on you for doing some reading on it. It is a pretty amazing area. Forest and bush and everything green but rocks everywhere in the shield. In fact, my house is pinned to a granite shelf. I really love the way the rock shelves will appear and then disappear into an area of green. It is pretty unique. I really like the way you use the grapple. I pick mine out with the backhoe and then have roll them into the bucket by hand. That can be a work out as some are a good size. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Thanks and good morning Chuck. Honestly, I would still like to have a BH one day but I do similar. I carry the bigger ones to the rock wall with the grapple but the smaller ones I pie and then go around and load into the bucket by hand. Thanks for watching and for saying hi. Cheers!

It's interesting...I never saw my father-in-law use his tractor bucket - he always had his grapple installed. Now I know why!
That tractor and grapple is a work horse. This fall I will be going to a friends place to get rocks, he has a lot like you. I have a catfish pond in my backyard and I will be building a rock waterfall. I have a L3301 and a 5ft grapple. So after seeing what your tractor will do I can’t wait. Thanks G.P for sharing

always thinking I need more HP for whatever tractor I wind up getting but as I watch you get better and better with your 2601 and the attachments, I really think I can get something MUCH more affordable and get things done just the same! I'm really impressed with that tractor. It's pretty beefy. I don't think my J.D. 3025e has that kind daughter spunk. Good advice on the slow and steady and centering your load with the grapple. Thanks GP.👍👍👍

Very impressive! That little tractor and loader is more rugged than I thought. Those were some nice sized stones to dig out let alone lift. Awesome video as always my friend, you have a beautiful workhorse there and that grapple seems invinsable. Can't wait for the next one. Oh btw your becoming quite proficient now operating. Look like my exact setup this weekend but on a B2650! Was doing the same things and got a couple boulders like the one at 6:20. Once you can get them loose a little it gets easy to pluck them out of the ground. It can take a while to get them loose though. A couple I will wait to get the backhoe on and try digging around to have a better idea on size. If too big do you and Guy do house calls :) I am clearing a section next to the house and while using the grapple to clear the area I am using the box scraper. On my way to dump the grapple the box scraper is used level the area and spread the dirt as I ride out. Double duty at it's best!

I have been finding that once I loosen it pretty good, that coming at it from a different side to loosen it more does the trick most of the time. It looks like you had a lot of fun on your tractor. There are few things quite as satisfying as removing a stump you've mowing around for a few years. Hope you make a video when you spread black dirt to smooth out your lawn. That's a task I've done each year since i got my tractor.
Hey good day Terry. Thanks for mentioning. I honestly have never done it. If you have time this week, it would be great if you could give me a few tips or how-to's. I ended up taking out more than 40 rocks from that lawn, so it looks pretty bad right now. I am thinking to use the bucket to help spread and level the holes and surrounding area, and then drop and spread the top soil over the holes and use the bucket to spread. Thoughts?
@@GPOutdoors You have a good plan in mind. Get pulverized dirt, if you can, as it is much easier to spread smoothly. As with gravel, i find it easier to spread the dirt as i go, rather than dump serveral loads and then spread it. You will need to compact the dirt in the deeper holes. Keep the dirt dry until your done working it. Most important: Enjoy yourself. Cheers.
One other point. I found that i angle the bucket less when back dragging dirt, as compared to gravel. Otherwise, you can scrape it right back out of the hole you dumped it in, if the hole is wider than your bucket.

one of the best attachments I bought is a land rake. They are cheap......the cost for an 8 foot is about the same for 6. I bought an 8 and cut it to 6 that way I had extra tines.

Good day Dave. Yes, I would love a BH (I was just kidding in the description:))). However, I don't have a ton of things to do with it yet. The grapple and tractor seems to do almost everything I have needed so far but I do have lots of stumps or bigger rocks around the property, which I know I will need a BH for at some point ( or rent one).
GP, are you thinking about a backhoe? Lol! I really like your grapple. Thanks for sharing!

How heavy is the grapple on your tractor?
Hi William. It's heavy. About 450 lbs I believe. About 200 lbs heavier than most others I have seen that are high carbon types. So, it will use up more lift capacity but it's tough. Cheers!

I don't at all William but then again, in all honesty, the things I lift, for the most part, are well within the remaining capacity. Very seldom have I wanted to lift something heavier on this small property. I guess the thing you may wish to consider is whether the extra 200 lbs will have any material effect on what types of things you normally lift. But I would definitely look at a few different manufacturers and what types of materials they are made from, price etc, and then decide from there. Good luck and let me now how it turns out. Hi Vic. It is made by HLA Attachments. They have a website by the same name. They don't sell direct but they sell through a retailer or dealer. If you are in Canada, you can get them from Farmer Equipment Sales. Cheers!

You're welcome Vic. If you are not sure then give Kevin a call. They are good folks. If you have a B series, then a 54" or 60" (max) is what you may wish. You can always go on the HLA Attachments website and you will see their grapple selection. It is a "Light Duty Root Rake with Grapple" that you might be interested in. Don't fret over the term "Light Duty". You will see that they manufacture equipment for the construction industry. Good luck and hope it helps a little. Cheers!

honestly I was extremely impressed with the difference on the 2650 vs the 2601. I thought I loved my b2601 until I bought my 2019 b2650. the thing is a different animal I was amazed. the 20% loader capacity and the weight of the tractor itself is phenomenal. I use a push box and I had loaded tires on my b2601 and it did not clear snow as well as my 2650 does without loaded tires. the extra weight of the machine really helps the loader get into piles of dirt and such for loader work. and surprisingly one of the things I noticed quite a bit is the low end grunt that the 1.3 liter in my 2650 vs the 1.1 liter in the 2601 has. i can run my 2650 at a lower rpm due to the low end torque and have great performance and also running at lower RPM's the fuel consumption appears to be less and the engine is not screaming as much which makes it much quieter to operate. i thought i loved my 2601 and i do it was great but the 2650 is amazing the loader is actually rated for more capacity than the L series tractors from 25-39 horsepower. the roll back and forward on the 2650 is further in each direction as well. the gauge on my 2650 is kinda fun to look at being digital instead of analog as well. and the 2650 also comes with a buck level indicator as well.Down falls IMO is that the 2601 starts MUCH better in the cold the 2650 starts decent but not as well as the 2601. the 2650 will chug when started for 10 seconds or so when its in the teens the 2601 fired right up with no chugging at all. the only other thing about the 2650 i wish i had was the Goodyear R14 tires which they did not have out at the time of purchase which now they have come out with or so i heard they have i really wanted the R14 tires but ill wait till my R4 tires wear out.
