      Thanks, great video! Very helpful to see how someone else works. Kudos to you and your team, it's a lovely brand that feels like what you were reaching for. Would love to see another project where the client wasn't as clear about what they wanted and you had to guide them through. Particularly interested in how to avoid scope creep.

    I love this, from an educational video it really helps people to understand why what their doing needs to be broader and understand how their choices as a designer impact the rest of the branding. As an Art/Design tutor, I see this happen quite often. Where people will become very stuck and drawn into a specific thing which ends up not working with either the rest of the brand or incohesive with other formal elements. Would love to see more of these style videos

    Raspaderia comes from the spanish word raspar which means scratch. In this case scratch an ice cube to make a snowcone. We call them piraguas in Puerto Rico. Cool branding process.

Never had a say with the client, always just the manager. so already made dozens of studies, not even one was picked yet. 'just make more studies' no feedback and such. hayy eventually they picked one by vote. and the company didnt even go through

    Cubano has been blowing up in the past 5 months or so. I found it on adobe fonts when they first added it and started using it in ads and then just starting seeing it everywhere. It's also used on the title for Everything Everywhere All at Once and it just keeps coming up in places like generic branding (not this company, some random one I saw in rural Michigan), the Two Bears One Cave podcast with Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer, and now here.
    It's wild when fonts catch on and start being used all over the place. I wonder where the next big place I see it it will be.

    • @briannacaikens
      @briannacaikens ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Artyom. I believe will and the team are suggesting to use 60% opacity for the illustrations and patterns so they do not take up too much visual prominence yet still have a presence. You can play around with this by opening your design, tool taking your main color and dropping the transparency to 60% and than using the dropper tool over that “semi-transparent” color to get the new CMYK/RGB color in 100% opacity. If you’re not so good at eye-balling. I’m sure there’s an easier way but you can see how material design uses color with levels of transparency as a resource. ❤️ Will, let me know if I’m 1000% off though lol.

  • @MichaelPetrus
    @MichaelPetrus ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Will. I wonder. You did a lot of work with illustrations and logo, then presented... what if the client would say that he does not feel it, it is not a good approach? So much work put in the concept. How would you solve these situations or what is the idea behind it? I know that it is important to show the concept in context and show some applications etc. but does your budget count with re-working the concept from scratch if you totally miss the clients visions? OR do you agree on the approach uprfront on some moodboards? Is that done in workshop? I guess not. You did not say this information. I believe that such situations don't happen to you but if this is an inspiration for others, they can face these problems. Thank you for the answer if you find some time!

    • @willpatersondesign
      @willpatersondesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      We had a really good understanding of the client's needs and vision, so we were happy to work on the illustrations because we knew they would work, I'll be honest though, the clients for this brand were amazing - very communicative, clear and honestly just a pleasure to work with and that's not always the case, so I do appreciate it can be worrying to spend a lot of time on a concept if you're unsure if it will be accepted or not, but in this instance as they were brilliant we knew it was exactly on brand for them :)
      We do allow for revisions if needed within the cost, as well as fine-tuning, so that wasn't a concern. We also do a brand sprint at the beginning of every new project as well as in-depth mood boarding and sketching before moving into the concepting stage fully.
      My best advice if you're worried you've not fully understood the brief or it's very open-ended would be to meet with the client and do things like a brand sprint and ask all the questions you can to fully understand their needs before beginning work and hoping they like it, it's so important to have a full understanding of the company and the expectations before zeroing in on an idea which they may find doesn't align with their brand, saving time and stress from miscommunication :)
      Hope this helps!

    • @MichaelPetrus
      @MichaelPetrus ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willpatersondesign Thanks for the answer. Great! Now, I see. From the video it looked like you are skipping the mood board and sketching phase with the client's feedback... which I know some designers do. They just show their awesome design - I am awesome, take or leave, Mr. Client! But if this is part of the process, that makes more sense to me. Thanks for the video!
