The 500k was paid to an old 'boyfriend' of Lydia's that took photos of her and Mortimer paid to get them back/have them destroyed. He was actually a journalist who got close to her to get info on their family.
Mortimer is super manipulative, like a ‘good cop, bad cop’ kind of guy. He’s got this smooth, sneaky charm that makes his kids do whatever he wants, and his wife just ignores his tough side. But he also pits the twins against each other. Things only change when James meets Ruby. She’s got her own dreams and goals, and that makes James realize he doesn’t really have any of his own-he’s just been doing what his parents want. When Mortimer sees James slipping away because of Ruby, he shows his true colors and just how cruel he can be.
Mortimer has drive and ambition, I'll give him that, but overall, he is such an unlikeable character, and I like having such an unlikeable antagonist like him. I hate that James and Lydia both have to go through his afflictions, but I think it's also helping them realize their own goals and ambitions in life! Can't wait to see James and Lydia stick it to Mortimer more in the future (if they ever do lol).
@@HIYYIHRTS I totally agree with you, and since I’ve read the books, I can promise you, they definitely will. 🤭 It’s gonna stay exciting, and fingers crossed they adapt the third book into a third season. I can’t wait for season two! 🤩
