In the mid 1970s I got several friends together to stress test a Vespa Rally 200 by riding it continuously for 72 hours. We took turns riding day and night without ever shutting the engine off. The scooter ran perfectly with no issues and ran better than ever afterwards.
Great to see Sym using a Kymco style larger crank bearing on the CVT side of the crankshaft - generic Chinese GY6’s make do with same size smaller bearings both sides of the crankshaft 👍 Fantastic video, scooters make so much sense cost per kilometre
Alex, the video was uploaded without subtitles and not even your fellow Romanians can watch it. You can re-upload it if you want because none of your videos have been uploaded without subtitles so far. Thank you.
The subtitles are automatic from TH-cam, I have everything turned on, and automatic subtitles. I don't know what the deal is with this one I'm guessing it detected my subtitles when I translated from Romanian to English and now it won't add the automatic ones 🤷
Great to See Doonie Back, I'm glad the open heart surgery went well, There was a tense moment with the leaking oil . I think SYM should make you their embassy and give you a new scooter 🛵🛵🛵🛵🛵🛵🛵🛵 🛵🛵 Great video Alex 🙏🇹🇭
Donnie 4 ever. Now the last pieces to replace and of you go to an exceptional challenge. Can't wait to see the vids. Maybe I wil join in 2027. Are you planning to do 360 vids and livestreams?
I don't have a 360 camera so no, and livestreams maybe on quassi's channel. I will be limited by roaming charges. Maybe if I get wifi I will livestream.
The 200cc engine is good as my Jet X,is the transmission problem, thats why this bikes start to scream past 95 kmh. I had a GY6 150cc chinese and it hit 110 kmh,but it was not so noisy like this. The only thing this bike needs is to find final drive ratio that is lower, like ADX 125. I have brochure and the power and torque of 169cc SYM is made at accleration until 70-80 kmh, then it lost its power.
Hello Alex! What a nice suprise to see Donnie, I sure missed him😊. Maybe I missed some previous info, but what was the reason to take him elsewhere than your workplace. Do you have a service at your workplace? Oh and one idea for next Monday: how about that white Dacia Sandero, it would be interesting.😇 Be bad.😊
That was a Dacia Logan and it was a rental, it's gone now :)) I took him to another shop because I like working with Sorin and like I said in the video, he has 30+ years of experience working on scooters and motorcycles and is the best mechanic that I know of. Plus he agreed to be the technical support in getting Donnie ready for the Cannonball. Think of it as a sponsorship where he makes sure the scoot is in perfect running order and educates me on how to fix as many things that might go wrong on the side of the road before I get there. We did the work on a Saturday when he's shop is closed so no one would bother us and he could teach me as much as he could about taking the engine apart and putting it back together.
@@RideWithAlex I didn't think of the education part, but you're absolutely 100% right. This new knowledge will come handy if anything failes in the US. Smart.😀
If you wanna keep donny more , i recomend with hand on my heart AMSOIL 10w40 full synthetic ;) american oil ... the VF 125 ran with it daily 12 hours 2000 km .. came out almost brand new at changes :D just sayin... motul is ok too i guess .. i wold go for motul 5100 10w40 for scoots
Cred ca au schimbat baietii de la Under Motors locatia de vreo 3 ori de cand am mers prima data la ei :)) initial erau langa voi la Sym, apoi Ghencea si acum unde?
Maybe you have to wait a bit for TH-cam to process them, I don't know, subtitles is a TH-cam thing, I don't make them except for when I translate Romanian to English.
Yes I did, full synthetic is ok for the brake in period. The brake in period and it's succes depends on how you heat cycle the engine and not what oil is in it.
this is an air cooled engine. mechanical tolerances and temperature ranges are somewhat higher. the first couple of hundred km wear is important and desirable. full synthetic will work against it.
@mavrifoustanela4993 I monitor engine and oil temps for my rides in this periods. I will have to get it out on the open road and ride it a bit harder because curently it's very cold here and in the city oil temp doesn't go high enough for me to be happy.
i would not keep steady rpm and change oil with quality mineral or semi for the first 500 km. thats just me of course. i guess you have your own experiences. wish you and donnie the best!
@mavrifoustanela4993 it's a cvt transmission, it always keeps the same engine rpm roughly :)) I know the concerns but talked to many people and using synthetic is fine. The only advantage of mineral oil is that it has a much higher flash point. In my BMW R1100GS also aircooled I use Motul 3000 20w50 with a flash point of 240 degrees, the scooter power I put in Donnie has a flash point of 228 degrees. Donnie doesn't get all that hot, even at the height of summer I've never seen temps higher then 140-150 degrees so it should be fine but I will monitor it. At the moment my only problem is with curent ambient temperatures hovering arround freezing I can't get the oil past 80-85 degrees and for a proper heat cycle I want to see at least 120-130 degrees, I'll see how I can get it up that high now in winter.
Donnie is sick? I have a question. If you are to take this to the United States of America, where will you find parts? I have never seen this kind of scooter here before. Still say borrow one from quasi Motard, and enjoy the ride with without an itinerary
Alex there is one hing about the Sym ADX 125 i can't find on the internet, nor in his documentation. How much amp output has the generator? How much can i hang on the ADX without overloading the generator and stay safe for the engine? I can't wait for the cannonball, men that something on a scooter.
:? really ... i dont think is so hard ... i am myself a scooter mechanic ... i had that VF 125 witch i broke the crankshaft doin wheelies like a dumbass and i replaced it solo ... an aircooled scooter is simple to do :)

The oil level being so low was probably the cause of that crank bearing wear. I'd bet if the oil level was ok, it would still be in good condition. Still, the SYM parts look good, from a quality standpoint, from what I saw in the video. I go ride my 150 now (PCX).🛵👀
This 200cc engine is the one used in the best motorcycle in the world, the SYM NHT 200?
Nope, it's better 😎
great viewing, thanks Alex
Really fantastic mechanic who is committed and really knows his business.

Welcome back :D
Je t'avais bien dit que c'était les roulements du vilebrequin ! 😉👍
Donnie is back!!!
Full engine rebuilt, what were the costs, how much would the total be?
normal retail price parts would be 600 Euro and labor depends on your region, about 7-8 hours of labor.
@RideWithAlex ...... super
