I've been a solo dev on several large corporate projects and have tried everything you've suggested in one form or another. While not every practice ends up increasing productivity for me, I would affirm and support each tool and technique you mention. Your short video was quite an appreciated and validating experience for me and i might dust off some of my solo kanban boards and give it another go.😊
You should totally give it another try, and if it doesn't work, keep experimenting until you find something that does. You should check out my series on building your own perfect productivity system over on my website: creadevlabs.com/build-your-perfect-productivity-system-with-first/
Awesome video, I am self taught and the first year or two before I joined my first team my projects were a mess and riddled with bugs! Things I NEVER went back to fix, I just worked on whatever popped into my head. After working on a team that actually did "tickets/pointing", backlogs, sprints etc... I was able to SMASH out my own projects implementing this. It's insanely helpful! Again... great video :)
Woa! As soon as I opened the video my screen went into HDR mode. Great viewing experience with a Macbook screen. I was not expecting to get HDR content for a simple productivity video.
Unfortunately I don't know of any open source ones. Most Agile software I've used is browser-based, so you should be able to use them no matter what OS you're using.
I create a feature branch per story, then create a PR directly to main once I’m done with the story. Since it’s only me working on it right now I don’t worry about having a QA branch. I test on the feature branch, then merge to main.
Thank you so much! If you don't mind me asking, what do you like most about it? I would love to hear your feedback so I can continue to make awesome thumbnails!
@@creadevlabs I don't mind. It's visually striking and catches the eye. First of course the contrasting colors of white on red and green is a great subconscious signaler but beyond the smart psychological triggers, I like the art style, and it stands out, unique and very brandish. Obviously this style of art is not unique but I mean rather your version of it stands out more than others I've seen.
Oh wow! A gamified project manager for game development! And if I were to use it I'd be managing a gamified task manager project with a gamified project manager! I'll have to check it out. Looks awesome! Thanks for sharing!
@@creadevlabs It's not massively gamified, just presented a little bit like a card based roguelike. There's actually a lot of cool features under the hood, like the milestones for planning releases and patches. Works very well with agile and CI.
@@creadevlabs I am not too much into the methodology lingo but as a solo dev a "Waterfall" with fallbacks to design (clean ups and refactors after every phase) will make future you very happy. As a solo dev setting deadlines every 2 weeks might result in too much stress if your scope is too big.
Yeah, I can see 2 week sprints getting stressful for a solo dev if you're putting too much stuff into them. That's why the best thing is try out different processes and see what works best for you. That's a nice thing about being a solo dev: you can organize your project however you want!
Holy shit the HDR blinds my eye 😂
😬
@@creadevlabs the guy is mentally-ill for encoding with HDR

That's awesome! It's great having a process to follow so you don't get lost in the weeds, especially on a solo project.
A solo dev here myself working since last 18 years.. good video.. became a subscriber.
Glad you enjoyed the video! And thanks for the sub!

I always hope my videos are of good quality, so it's good to hear that this one is!
I totally agree what your process. I do the same thing and It helps me keep track of the project details
Nice! Many of the Agile processes are super useful for a solo dev even though they're designed for teams.
I do the same in emacs. I use ellama with a team lead-tuned LLM for daily standups and sprint planning.
That's awesome! Thank you for sharing!
That sounds enticing. I've tried the same. How do you get the LLM to keep context over many days? Could you share some more detail?
In my current solo dev project, there is usually a next step that most enables subsequent development. I work on that.
That’s great! You gain momentum and ride the wave!
Please allow a regular 1080 version to be played the HDR is blinding.
Thank your for the feedback. I had no idea my camera was filming in HDR, so I'll make sure to turn it off in future videos.
I write my solo dev project on post it. But I think I can use app that you use in video.
It might help me a lot to persist .
Go ahead and give it a shot!
Very good! 🎉
I would really like to find a good open source Linux-based Agile system so that I could use it for my own projects.
Any suggestions?😃

Please decrease the background music!
I've tried to that in my later videos. It can be hard to get the right balance sometimes. Thank you so much for the feedback!
whats ur branching strat? main and qa and commit directly to QA? feature branches directly into main? (or qa)

I use different mind mapping and brainstorming apps
That's awesome! What are some of the ones you use?

For dev project management software I'm a fan of codecks

I guess you would be both a chicken and a pig, in this setup.
I'm afraid I don't understand the comment.
AGILE, I am out. Peace.
It’s certainly not for everyone. What software development process do you like to use?
