  • I really enjoy doing this sort of thing with RC models. I test some props, have a blow off on one run and show a rescue...

    Omg! The recovery boat! I had the exact idea years ago when I built the same thing out of blue 2” insulation board and a cox .049. I cut it out to look like a big pickle fork and the motor is mounted up high. It goes at a brisk walking pace. I thought I had an original idea, that’s cool to see u have one too!

    Great test report. I like your attention to detail, both in the model and the data acquisition.
    It looks like you need a bigger lake with the speeds you're going!
    I used to run and race nitro boats in Washington State back in the '70s and '80s. Mine were never as fast as yours, but I was able to set a couple of A-class straight-a-way speed records. The electric boats were just starting to appear with NiCad batteries back then. We clocked one boat at over 100 mph in back-to-back timed runs. Possibly the fastest electric boat of any kind or size at that time.
    One thing to consider; we always made sure the trailing edge of our super-cavitating, prop blades was squared off with sharp corners to get clean water separation.

      Thank you. Very interesting. A piece of history. Yes, the electrics of today are amazing. I do file the trailing edge flat, maybe should do a bit more, make sure the corners are sharp. I will look at them...

      Balance is most important...

    • @chilly7261
      @chilly7261  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, at 70 mph plus, it's running on the razor edge of blowing off every pass. I would say balance first, then sharpen. I've tested before and after polish, very little difference in speed that I could tell anyway...

      @@chilly7261 70mph is fast.. very good that you can prime your own props.. I like the octura V940/3 or V942/2 and bigger, theyre for outriggers and ive watched them at 180kph on 4s lipo..
