RIght? I felt the same way when I saw people were streaming on twitch. Had me hooked after watching a few people play Outlands.

I found this very informative. No one has gone into detail like you have for this dungeon and it’s most appreciated to new players who are fascinated with the game. Thank You.

I started a week or so a go. Got a peace dexxer, skills and abilities maxed and tbh this is still a challenging area for a new character when you don't have codex or aspects, e.g. the ettin you killed in 2-3 hits on level 2 would take me about 3-4 minutes of melee preying for no adds or barding breaks. As you say you have also have lot of damage mitigation on that Aspect 13 character, but when starting out fresh even just the goblins can nuke you down at range simply trying to run past them (as happened to me). I found I had to stick near the level 1 red portal area and pull one orc/mob at a time and the cave bears are pretty tanky. Level 2 seems probably like a no go till you get a codex due to the mob density. Problem with Outlands is you just do so little damage to stuff (compared to back in the day) without the codex/aspects that the shard is balanced around. I'd say to get a more accurate take on the 'new player' difficulty of these places it's worth revisiting with a new untwinked character without codex/aspects, and if they are needed then I wouldn't really class it as new player friendly considering the costs of acquiring them (100's of thousands of gold for a build). Anyway, thanks for the guides, have a sub.

From the Moongate at the end, you head southeast. There are several spiders there that most people run through. Run past and try not to be bitten. There is another level that has a lot of Ogre Lords and it has a throne with the Juton King who can stealth. He's about twice as strong as an Ogre Lord and drops about 1k gold. Great spot. :]

I'm aiming to redo all the dungeons guides Ive done but for now the previous versions all have the same mobs/map but the HP/Difficulty have been ramped up.

My protip for any new players, from a new outlands player. Even if you start up a PvE char you play with, make a miner or some gathering skill char with magery so you can recall (escape macro to avoid most of the PKs). Mine for like a day (setup a script so you dont get handcancer), I made like 350k just selling iron commodities.. took prob 8-10hours from a freshly made char.. But got me enough funds so i could buy the codexes and atleast 1 aspect. Your gonna be what feels like stuck until you start leveling them as this server is balanced around them. I played UO vanilla back in the day, and mobs are deffo harder here.. prob because they are based around aspect powercreep. If you try to PvE farm only from the start its gonna take you ALOT(4x ++) longer just to get started.. Aspects scale your dmg/mitigation, and its a long grind, dont waste your time grinding without having 1 aspect going:P

Hey Tommy! Thats a great tip. It really rings true.
That being said, I started by grinding and I simply prefer it that way. I have never been a fan of gathering in games. I know others may be like me and find they want to jump right into the fray. ( I am also quite stubborn when it comes to what I do in games haha. )
Others, gathering is the way to go like Tommy said! If you want to min/max your grind I agree with him. There is also the scavenger option.
The scavenger option is a gatherer, possibly less lucrative than mining but I havent tested side by side. What the scavenger allows people to do is steal from mobs which nets gold and loot grey corpses/players. You net leather, gold, regs, magic items, rares, and sometimes high crafted items! Bonus, its fun to play. Always something going on.

You missed a dangerous spot near the red moongate at the end of the video. To the left and right, monsters that inflict poison. You need to be equipped to deal with that or avoid.

Nice! Thanks, will definitely be checking this out once my barding skills are maxed. Are there any specific place to go to purchase these codex or aspect things? Or what, I'm totally noob, I've never played UO until now on outlands.

Aspecting is essentially applying a power suit to a set of gear and your weapon OR spell book. To unlock an aspect ( there are many types of aspects but they all unlock / level the same way ) you need 12 of the cores, 6 distills, 50 arcane essence, and a aspecting kit. You can buy all these from player vendors, same with the codex's.

Hey Strawhat! This'll be a long read but please hear me out.
I played UOR for years, I know classic UO. I played some AOS even (that's old too now lol)
For the love of god I can't grasp Outlands. I have a GM tamer, other characters with GM skills but I don't get aspects, codex's, chains.
I don't know how to get them or how they work. I am on the discord, I've read some stuff but I still don't get it. I bought 2 of the MasterCraft things, I'm saving gold for arcane scrolls and then I'll beg someone to craft a codex for me.
Is it supposed to be this hard to get? Are monsters supposed to be this much harder than traditional shards?
How did you start and learn these things, I swear I don't have any known learning disabilities but man I am just lost.
Would it be possible to do a detailed video for someone like me that knows classic UO but just doesn't get the stuff mentioned above?
A GM tamer used to be godly, my dragon takes 8 minutes to kill a monster but a dexxer can take out the same thing in what seems like 30 seconds. I can't wrap my head around it.

    • @A-Straw-Hat
      @A-Straw-Hat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Nigel. I totally understand where you are coming from. It took me some time to understand the system as well. I'll go ahead and give that a shot with a video.
Before I detail some stuff out just know tamers are still godly. Good tamers give me a run for my money and I would consider myself to be end game level dexxer now. Just know that nearly every build/style is end game viable with high enough aspect level ( all you do is grind for it, kill stuff lol ) and enough chain links ( again grind for this by killing stuff. You don't even need a chain to get exp for it ).
For now though, Aspecting is like a power suit. The arcane essence is the fuel that the aspect suit runs on.
Each aspect has its positives that play off specific builds. EG: As a Tamer the best aspect is Command because it synergizes with taming very well. It's effects buff your pets damage along with other stuff I am not very familiar with yet.
Death aspect is great for necromancers because it increases necros effective skill totals.
Eldritch is good for summoners/inscription because it buffs the pets and inscription bonus's.
Lyric is good for bards because it buffs the effective barding skills.
I could go down the line but when you see a dexxer ripping through stuff its because that dexxer is HIGH tier aspect ( 1 being low, 14 being the highest ) and/or they have a lot of chain links and a maxed codex set.
Codex/Tomes - ( Blessed book you keep on you for its effects )
Codex and tomes ( like aspecting ) benefit specific builds. If you are a tamer you will want a bestiary. That bestiary will make your pets stronger as you train them. The same applies to dexxers with their weapon codex, bards with theirs, thieves with theirs, ect. Codex/Tomes can all be made by players with MCDs and Pink Scrolls.
Chain Link Necklace - ( Wearable item that contains chain links which are passive increases to specific skills/effects/stats based on which links you add to it )
The chain link is also another power increase tool that allows you to customize your passive bonus's a little bit more. EG; I use Swing Speed Increase links on my dexxer where a tamer might use follower damage increase links.
I have a video on some of it from the perspective of a dexxer but Ill go ahead and make a new video highlighting all of this.
Till then I suggest checking out Pwnstarr's video on it. th-cam.com/video/80Y9OMuzfJs/w-d-xo.html
I cannot speak highly enough of Pwnstarr and his content.
