This happened in a rural village in Sri Lanka towards the southern part of the country. The villagers who initially spotted this elephant with the loud noises it made as it fell down. This elephant has wandered alone out from its natural habitat for a long distance. These elephants naturally are adventurous and move to stranger territories more often than any other animal. This elephant fell down as it was curious about the new water source for sure. They managed to free the elephant and save its life by sacrificing their hard earned wealth. This great work done by humble men goes on to show that humanity is still alive and doing well.

The equipment operator was very skilled, adding soil gently, so the elephant could rise out of the hole, and access the ramp. People helped by removing heavy stones, to protect the elephant. Impressive work! Thanks and respect to all the people who helped. The cries of encouragement and cheers of triumph need no translation!

Those are birdshot and blanks. Fired in the air to scare the bejesus out of that Dumbo and ensuring it doesn't come back that way. Nobody shoots an elephant in India unless absolutely necessary. Well, poachers are assholes, so, except those jokers, nobody. Interestingly, because Indians deify the elephant, it happens to be one of the safest countries for elephants to live in. It's all good, brothaaa. He's okay, you are okay..of course more must be done. We are working on it.

I have never seen a rescue that has touched my heart like this one. I don't know how the elephant fell that far without hurting himself. He was "stuck" in there so tight, he couldn't move his head around. This is an amazing rescue! God's blessing on those amazing people, too.
Typically, if u fall thru a tube, the air below u kinda cushions ur fall, as opposed to falling in an open space. Ppl who fall thru an elevator shaft often/sometimes survive. Plus the water may hav cushioned its fall.

Actually the situation is assessed very badly, as I have seen few elephant rescue bymyself , without even much error they could have handled the situation better.they were just improvising accordingly only when the need arises .But still,I'm not here to complaint about that.Kudos to the people who took part in the rescue.

I am from North Yorkshire England. India is an amazing place... My great grandfather had a mill in India and owned one of the very earliest car's. The brakes didn't work very well on cars back then and he ran into an Ox or Cow! Which I must say is very sacred there.. however the cow was fine after the car run over it.. then the cow just got up and casually walked away.
India has wonderful diverse interesting culture a place I must go one day.
