- We take a trip to Nagano, Japan to see the Japanese hot spring bathing snow monkeys. Japan is the only place in the world where you can have this unique experience.
The Japanese Snow Monkey Park was created in the Northern Nagano prefecture to protect the ecology of the area, the famous Japanese macaques, and the local Yamanouchi farmlands. Today, Jigokudani Park (地獄谷野猿公苑) plays a huge role in the conservation of Japanese macaques living in the park, otherwise known as the Snow Monkeys. It is a popular tourist spot for those living in Japan and international visitors. You can travel to this park in Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn/Fall. The most popular season to visit Nagano is Winter as you see the Snow Monkeys soaking in the hot onsen amidst the snowy Yamanouci landscape. There is also an open-air Japanese onsen ryokan where you can bathe with wild snow monkeys!
