Thanks for breaking this down. Just got back into the game after years, before catalyst. The profession looks fun but I had trouble understanding how it worked.
My first 3 characters that i started at the same time since I was unable to decide were the Engineer, Mesmer, and Guardian. I then added all the other classes over time. This week i finally managed to level the elementalist to 80. And for the past couple of days I wanted to see what this is all about. I always thought it is such an interesting class with all the attunements. It took me some time and i have to say I had to read the latest patch notes to realize I can build up these 3 circle attacks and release them. They really didn't make a good effort to explain the mechanics. Interestingly, i also decided on water, arcane, and of course catalyst as i found water actually pretty offensive with a great mix of defensive traits. This class really grabbed my interest so much together with the bladesworn that i can't switch to another class at the moment. And at the right time, you showcase your build and your excellent explanations as usual with the play style. Thank you again for your efforts and ideas.
Well done, and I loved the intro. *^_^* I played cele with hammer and d/d in WvW, and had a great time. I also played it using a fresh air build, and that brought a lot of laughs. Specially, when the zerg turned to eat me up for killing their back line. xD
This is literally the reason i bought GW2 when a big selling point for me was combos with other players. Now a rotation and class that revolves around combos and auras! Love the visuals as well very satisfying when you see bubbles pop up on players! love it! Be careful with air 4 i punted myself inside a tree soloing a champion XD! Im calling it the Nimbulyst Nimbus+catalyst ik its terrible lol
One of the sacrifices I've had to make in my GW2 time is to allow myself to NOT play a few classes so I can truly learn others. Sadly, Elementalist was sacrificed. However, I was running alongside a Catalyst while playing my warrior and the aura generation of that spec made my warrior incredibly more powerful.
I hope I havent missed it in the video, I think you havent mentioned that you get good buffs from the hammer 3s flying around. So while throwing them does great damage, it might be good to keep them flying for longer fights and try to throw them only when they would expire. 😶 But I myself need more time to learn catalyst properly. Also important to note is that both sphere and 3 are insta cast, even while stunned. Otherwise the water line is nice pick definitely. Will think about it for group content.
as always, love ur build videos :) u should mention that u took a special earth trait called "soothing voice" which replenishes the player's endurace while watching ur videos 😇 now, i also took full cele, pact and impact, but i also took severence 🤟 imagine ccing with air 5, then fire5 makes 20k dmg 🤩 i also took air/fire and picked up all the power traits. i am more glassy than u, cuz i dont have soothing mist tho. i took the cata heal, cuz its the only condi cleanse in the build, since water5 is a part of the "rota", and i didnt take smothering auras. it also makes a fun mini game to survive with low hp until i get to water to proc the faster CD on it :) as for utilities, fire signed, stunbreak glyfe and a 3rd skill that i never use (maybe ill change to arcane bolt?) the elite is ao underwhelming :( thats it :)
Have you experimented with Fire/earth set up as ur Condi tempest build? I really like it :) and I am wondering what is the advantage of Water/Arcane with this one ? Thank you!
I did. I prefer tempest for condi and catalyst for power. Tempest is a better soloist the way I play. . In terms of the difference it comes down to Quickness(Catalyst) and Alacrity (Tempest). The Catalyst is much easier to keep the boons up on though in additon to alac, the tempest pumps out a ton of might as well.. If I were always in groups I would favor Catalyst. If I were Big game hunting (champs bounties) I would run the Tempest.
cool video, good build, however, i would argue celestial+arcane(at least with those traits) dont really work well together on catalyst. elemental lockdown isnt really needed becouse ull get perma fury from spectacular sphere, and have pack runes on top, also have no cc outside of air for disables. bountiful power while a good trait is very limited with celestial stats since it only scales power dmg. fire traitline for way more dps, and (optionally) condi clense on aura cast, or earth for stupid levels of survivability would be a better pick here. overall i feel catalyst is really handicapped when trying to go any kind of condi scaling, even if its celestial. looses a ton of dps, and thats the only reason why healing power, and toughness form cele is needed. more dps = less time taking dmg. ive actually been running the exact same build but with a mix of of marauder/dragon/diviner gear and swapping water for fire, for when i want to chill and not worry bout surviving, and still be able to solo pretty much anything in the game relatively quickly. having 20k+ hp, 15% dmg reduction from earth 3, perma protection form earth sphere, perma weakness from air 3 on anything without a breakbar means u take no dmg, strong heal on water 4, 100% crit, perma quicknes, 25 might, perma fury, protection, resistance, swiftness and more. and u can deal around 16k dps on the golem without any console buffs. its actually ridiculous. not flaming the build, u did mention its not supposed to be efficient, rather fun, and it definitely is fun, catalyst is fun;) just a couple things to consider trying out^^
Just out of curiosity and to have something to aim for, what kind of dps should I expect from this build if I am geared in exotic ? I don't expect anyone to be exact, but even a vague idea would help.
For me, the specc is too reliant on the Hammer. Whilst Weaver and Tempest are flexible and the "tec" comes from the inherent class mechanics and traits, Catalyst seems overly reliant on the abilities provided by the Hammer. It's really sad that the other weapons did not get ANY adjusments to better synergize with the Catalyst by getting new skills to.
Played cele condi weaver before, survived Most Open world stuff, switched to this(not the runes yet though) and got smacked in my face from pof Hero points :o am i Just bad, or did it get nerved or so?(hopefully its me😅)

the air4 issue is real and I get punished for hitting it constantly.
As for the combos, take a look at engi if you like them :)

I had zero interest in elementalists, but the hammer intrigued me, now that I have your take I'm ready to create my catalyst!
I think it's worth at least an attempt. The quickness spam is real and I find it a lot of fun.

Fun Fact.... if you dont want to aura share to other people Fresh Air with daggersis a really great alternative for spamming Shocking Aura on yourself

Ive warmed up to Cata given type but this was definitely a huge gripe for me too
