Ha. No, join a union trade. You will make 100k or more. On top of earning an associates degree. That's if you're a high school grad or have a GED. Support Blue Collar
I would advise a youngster to do what you’re suggesting over getting a bachelors and working in software development like myself. Automation is coming fast
The "average" pay must be crazy in other places because the starting pay for an electrical engineer is around 80k, where i live. The starting pay for a police officer (BS degree in criminal justice) is 45k, and a teacher is 45k. Average jobs from degrees don't come close to 70k where i live.
In my area a police officer is making easily 80k. Most are over 100k with overtime. I did not graduate highschool and I make 60k at a water treatment plant. I think it is very location specific. I live in SW FL.
What you really miss is that a Bachelor's degree with 25 years experience could be earning you $350k where as a PhD newly minted with low experience is going to be at your $125 - $150k level. Experience is what really drives pay with Bachelor and above.
apples and pears. You are forgetting that if a BS has 25 years of experience the PHD has 22 years of experience. The PHD will out earn the BS most of the time. But with that said, this is the data so it is objectively correct. I live in the highest cost of living city in the US and know maybe 2 25 BS's that make more than 300k and they own their own businesses.
I'd be curious to see those same categories with age groups. Someone with a 4 year degree that's been working for 10 years will probably make more than someone with a masters that is straight out of school.
I feel you left out 2 categories 1. 2-year technical degree and 2. Tradesman / Skilled Labor
Vocational degrees, I would say. Which can actually be less expensive and more lucrative than traditional college/degrees.
I dropped out of high school in 10th grade. Got my GED when I was 21. Did a 1 year trade school program at 27. I'll bring in 6 figures in 2025

I have a truck driving degree (CDL )and make just over 100k a year.
Nice!
These figures are highly dependent on major. I’m just a bachelors making 140k a year as an engineer, under 30 years old.

but remember you will pull the avg up as an EE when you have 10+ years of experience. And every other salary will grow.
