This is THE most ‘unoffensive-to-anyone’ decor I have ever seen. No one can possibly hate this. Even the people bored by it, just put their favorite music on and they’ll feel fine, lol.
Sort of psychiatric clinic therapeutic style. For those trying to lower their blood pressure without medication? I would guess people with already low blood pressure might prefer not to come home and immediately fall asleep. :) (Power ballads don't seem to go with this.) It's a softer form of all white. It seems to have nothing distinctive of its own. Every part is already in other styles.
My husband and I built a house in the woods a couple of years ago and this organic modern is as close to my style as any I’ve seen. Except that I have a slightly more colorful version. Maybe slightly deeper shades of moss green, brown, gold, and so on. but lots of natural materials. Stained trim and solid wood doors, bamboo flooring, granite counter, stone fireplace with a rough wood mantle, pebble floor in the shower, an old barn wood dining room table, lots of matte black metal, real plants. No faux anything. Decorations also related to nature, like bird nests, an undyed wool tapestry, turtle shells, wooden things, pottery, and irregular shapes. And a mix of more modern furniture and antiques. Every room has big windows so that everywhere you look is nature. So I feel like my version of the organic modern style goes well with that. (My son calls my style “obnoxious modern hippie.”) Thanks for covering this style!
Sounds great! I never live in cities, and to me natures sunrises and sunsets are full of colour, and then there’s the birds! Enjoy your bit of heaven 👍
I second your sentiment, Organic Modern is here to stay! 💚🌿It’s so much like living near a peaceful stream, with some greenery, I feel like this design style (while not everyone’s cup of tea) represents something our souls innately crave in our sometimes hollow plastic digitized world.
I don't think I could live in an all beige/white home. Bold, bright colours make me happier. However, I do love the organic part. Love wood, stone, plants, ceramic pots/vases, brick walls. Sorry Nick, I love the jungle look!!! Plants are living art and require light. Having large windows contribute to positive health vibes. I can still appreciate those who love the organic modern style. Thanks for another great informative video!!! 💚
No need to apologize. I just think he's trying to educate us on the common elements of the style. I couldn't live in a home without a lot of family photos on the walls. I need to see pictures of my kids when they were young and the artwork they did. I need to see photos of relatives long since gone. I try to convert a lot of them to black and white and use black and white frames and matting for cohesion. It makes it a challenge to use some of these minimalist designs, but that's what I need to look at day to day. Do what makes you happy and who cares what anyone else thinks.
I call this dry organic modern. I live in lush Minnesota where forests are verdant vibrant greens, the sky is bright blue, soil a rich dark brown, and fall golden and red. The colors of this dry organic modern style are sad, parched, and leave me thirsty. Just a suggestion - Room and Board has some great furniture that might work with this style - a bit expensive but the well crafted and made to last. (I don’t work for them just like their stuff.)
This sort of colour style comes from Japan, which is most certainly not a dry or colourless place to live. But the colours either are, or at least imitate, organic dyes, and those tend to have muted hues, especially when aiming for humble, rather than opulent aesthetic. In Japanese interior design the nature itself provides the bright backdrop, and the interior doesn't try to compete with it.
I live in Mn as well. I use woods, greens with pops of color that move and change just like the flowers that come and go. The naturals of this style are nice, but I appreciate more of a full nature palette.
yes! i would like this but if it was more verdant organic modern, and maybe with a few small accent colours - eg very bright pink/fuschia, or bright cobalt blue
oooh that's what that style is called! ive seen it mixed with mid century-ish styles a lot recently, it looks stunning. although in it's 'pure', completely organic beige-y form i feel like it doesnt work in every space, i really love the concept. it always kind of feels like a spa moment to me. mix in unexpected anorganic shapes, styles and colors for a pop of contrast and boom! absolute goodness.
As I watched this video, I looked around as, one by one, everything I own was mentioned and every guideline was met. Guess I found my style! Mine is a mix of a couple bought pieces, a few family heirlooms, thrifted, traded, auction purchases and even a trade or two. Love the style and love Nick’s wonderful witty comments.
We have a college of craft, art and design nearby and I asked some beginner potters if I could buy their « practice » pieces. They were more than happy to sell them to me at a great price! They are imperfect perfection! Just what I wanted. :)
I love this channel : beautiful bundle of sass and education! It is so clear that Nick enjoys sharing his knowledge! It's so inspiring and the content , I believe, is so informative. Thank you 🙏
This is an excellent and informative video. I really like the format. I do think your critique of too many plants may be missing the point. A lot of the people who have hundreds of plants want their home to look like a jungle, it’s intentionally done for a jungle aesthetic. It’s not only a design choice, indoor gardening is a hobby, people have many plants because the care of them provides meaningful recreational activity.
Love this style. It's hard not to fall into a more "rustic" look (like you made a fort in the woods) when you're looking at natural materials, and keep to the modern side of things. I look forward to your videos, Nick✌
Thanks Nick! Think I'll call my design style Eclectic Organic Modern. Everything in my home has that 'natural' feel - real wood, natural fabrics and plants .... great call. Thanks for explaining this style.
Denmark here🇩🇰 Often, when I watch your videoes, I sense that the average canadian home leans to the scandinavian style, or am I wrong? I wonder what the average american home looks like? I admit, that I have prejudices, like who wraps their couch in clingfilm?🤔 The danish interior design, to me at least, is just the way we live. Modern, light, organic, with plants and curves. Not 100% since the classics like Wegner, Børge Mogensen, Arne Jacobsen or Verner Panton are expensive. But the style or vibe can be made with other, not so expensive things. And good furnitures can stay in families for generations. When I was younger, I saved for years to buy my first Verner Pantom lampe, called the Globe. And I still have it, 30 years later❤ Maybe do a video on scandinavian lamps or the many wodden figures from Kay Bojesen🙏They are danish style icons, known worldwide. The famous monkey was designed back in 1919 and is still popular and affordable👍
OMG. You nailed it. I have been trying to determine ‘my’ style when planning to decorate my new house and I have screenshot several of these images. Perfect ! Thank you so much. I unfortunately (for retailers) now live in France and reminisce about being able to source great design and a variety of price points in the US but that is the way life is.
Nick, I was just considering buying something off of Amazon, but then I heard you start roasting me inside my head and I decided against it 😅 I think it was definitely for the better though so thank you! 😂
OK, this video is ABOVE AND BEYOND. Thank you so much for the information, the visuals, the reasons, your delivery, and you even gave suggestion where to shop?! You're amazing. I've become a true fan of you and your videos. Thank you!
Organic modern would be my inspiration but I love color too much to actually do it. I use wood, marble, wool, cotton, linen and leather for my main materials and play with a peacock colored palette adding glass and microfiber velvet for its softness durability.
Hey Nick, in case you read this, we just bought a house with a windowless bathroom and I figured how to deal with that might be an interesting topic for a future video. A lot of apartments have these and they are very hard to design well so that people like spending time in there. Anyway, have a nice week. :)
I would love a video likes this about moody japandi!! You mentioned it once in a video and provided a couple reference photos, and they were stunning, but I’m having serious trouble with merging together the ideas of moody and japandi, and I can’t find many other references online
I love this style. I do have too many very large plants but I have tall ceilings and a large, sunny open main living area. I’ve used desaturated bold colors and it really adds to the interest of the room. I do love texture. All great tips Nick, thanks!❤
i feel like this video was made for me because this style is EXACTLY what i want to furnish my new place with. i just didnt know it had a name. i was like i just want comfy relaxing furnature and colors. and this was exactly it 🤣
For about the last fifteen+ years, I've described my style as organic modern (and sometimes organic modern-industrial) because I didn't know how else to describe my style. So, thank you, Nick, for making me feel legit. I would never have known it's now a thing if I hadn't tripped across your channel.
I am slowing redoing my home to look like these pictures...and I didn't even know it had a name! I just like neutrals, textures, wood, stone, etc. I always learn SO much watching your videos, (when I am not pausing them to dry my eyes because I am laughing so hard at your sass).
The big, bold style looks like Liberace's hotel room back in the day - great for a man who has a residency in Vegas but who among the rest of us wants to wake up with a hangover in THAT ?? Organic Modern looks a lot better to these tired old eyes. Thanks for the vid.
I always look forward to your videos on Saturdays. I l really enjoy your honesty and the fact that you get straight to the point, no apologies. As a native New Yorker, Brooklyn to be exact, I very much gel with that. You are funny and clever and make me laugh and giggle a few times while watching. Thanks for the decor advice and insight, as well as the entertainment. I would totally have you as my bestie if we knew each tiger, lol. All my best 👋🏻
Very informative and educational regarding design terminology. For me, adding some pale blues and greens would make this design a little beachy and heavenly.
I just love organic modern style.. and you explained it so well 👍🏼😉 I live in Denmark so I’ve always had a sort of scandi minimalistic style, and the older I get the more I use organic, natural materials.. also now I can better afford it 😆 Anyway, thanks Nick! 👏🏼🥰
This is as close to my personal style as it gets! ❤ I can't imagine anything more sophisticated. I absolutely love natural materials, earthy tones and greenery mixed with timeless mid-century furniture. Our bathrooms are wabi-sabi-leaning with travertine and neutral colour palette + black chrome. Our kitchen is a bit more vibrant because of natural stone (Roma Imperiale quartzite) with intense, brown and teracota veins. We paired it with off-white and wooden cabinets. We put natural stone and wood everywhere we could, which makes this style pretty expensive. After living in an apartment filled with random furniture and statement turquoise walls, our new house feels like heaven.
Thank you so much for the color wheel lesson. That was the best & most important part of this video for me. I appreciate that you included that information.
This is definitely my vibe, however real plants? Not so much. I don't have a green thumb so everything will be dead but I do try to find the most natural looking ones lol
I am so thankful that I found your videos last month. I wanted to actually design my bedroom remodel instead of just throwing paint on the walls. I watched all your bedroom design videos. This video was perfectly timed because I went with a neutral paint color and this gives me more ideas. Thank you so much! ❤
This is THE BEST explanation and break down of organic modern I've seen. I am renovating a cottage in the hillside and I wanted to do it in the Organic Modern style and your video is a great source to start from. Love your work and wit!
Thank you Nick for the Sundays recommendation you gave in one of the previous videos! I got the dining table and bench from them and they are perfect. Gorgeous, great quality and craftsmanship. I love them! Company’s customer support is also top notch. Overall great experience
I think my favorite design style would have to be called Art Room. The room itself would be plain and unimpressive with neutral walls and flooring and then I'd add too many colorful and very busy looking handmade decorations all over the walls. The furniture would have to be painted fun colors. I would decorate some cardboard curtains and pop those in the windows. I find this style of decor relaxing. If I had my own house it would be covered in journal art.
This is hands-down, the most informative design video I've seen. I love organic modern, but didn't know the guidelines for it (like the unique shapes and such). Thank you for all the great info!
Great video. This is totally me with a dash of Japandi. I'm working on curating my home and editing the things I have and making decisions slowly so I don't buy a bunch of crap.
So happy you made a video dedicated to organic modern! Along with Japandi/wabi-sabi, which have similar elements, this is one of my favorite styles of design. I understand why some individuals may find it "dull and boring", but I love the serene, spa-like vibes.
I am ever so appreciative that you break this style down to its basic elements. It makes it so clear and easy to imagine my own space in this style. Many thanks!
I learned something! I was watching a movie on Netflix, "Find Me Falling", and I actually noticed some organic modern elements in the main character's house. Maybe someday I will evolve from my current design style of cluttered chaos😂
this is a literal godsent video because i just realized this is what i'm doing. now that i know this is what i started, i know how to finish it! thank you, nick!
This is exactly what I am wanting to do. Thank you.. my eye goes to cold, cool square.. and then I hate my room.. I want a cozy warm room it’s just not what I pick!! So frustrating
We are building an earth covered dome home next year and we are doing an organic modern design with a desert color palette. Sages, terracota, dusty blue, creams and sandstones , different wood tones and bronze and aged brass. Lots of texture in the fabrics and furniture, mirroring the curve of the ceilings in the lighting and furniture, mirrors etc.
Never so early! Looking for aspects I can apply to a very traditional (historical) home. Designing within the bones of a 17th century house a real challenge if you don't want to live in a museum! We already use artisan objects and natural materials...
Now I know what the style I love is called! Thank you, Nick. I so enjoy your channel! (Thinking to mtself: Hmmm...maybe with a tiny touch of art deco...I have a couple pieces I cannot part with...lol)
Hi Nick, i just happen to come across your video, so amazing tips and explanations, knowledge.... I am trying to decorate a space and i didnt knew how i can call it, and i can see theres a lot of Organic Modern, but i have a huge way to go... Thank you so much . a Hug from KSA
This might be one of your best videos in my opinion. Very well structured and great examples throughout. Thank you, me and my wife are starting the Sundays with your latest upload 😊 is part of the weekend routine now.
My trouble is that I don’t know what I like, (or, much easier, hate,) until I see it so it takes me forever to fine the “perfect” piece. It’s like driving down the road and instantaneously hating the look of the car you cannot ignore or wanting to follow the car you cannot take your eyes off because it’s so beautiful.

I am slowing redoing my home to look like these pictures...and I didn't even know it had a name! I just like neutrals, textures, wood, stone, etc. I always learn SO much watching your videos, (when I am not pausing them to dry my eyes because I am laughing so hard at your sass).
Always learn something from Nick. Love your style.. don't change a thing
With this palette, a clean Amano style aquarium becomes a small oasis in the desert. Nice sturdy modern piece as a stand.
Thanks for video!
The big, bold style looks like Liberace's hotel room back in the day - great for a man who has a residency in Vegas but who among the rest of us wants to wake up with a hangover in THAT ?? Organic Modern looks a lot better to these tired old eyes. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for covering this lovely style!
I really appreciate your insight on design. Thank you.
Very informative and educational regarding design terminology. For me, adding some pale blues and greens would make this design a little beachy and heavenly.
Today was serious Nick, but equally as endearing; over a half million people just like you
I just love organic modern style.. and you explained it so well 👍🏼😉 I live in Denmark so I’ve always had a sort of scandi minimalistic style, and the older I get the more I use organic, natural materials.. also now I can better afford it 😆 Anyway, thanks Nick! 👏🏼🥰
I love this decor style to look at! It feels so warm and inviting. I won’t do it myself because it’s too boring for me personally. But it is gorgeous!
Always enjoy your videos!
Would also live to see you do a video on the arts and crafts style as it is one of my favorites.
Today I learned the name of my style 😮
This is style is minimalistic and calming. Perfect for someone (like me) who rents and has to deal with beige walls. Definitely NOT sad! Thanks, Nick.
Subbed 👍🏼
EDIT: my dream home decor: Art Deco w Frank Lloyd Wright touches 😻
Thank you so much for the color wheel lesson. That was the best & most important part of this video for me. I appreciate that you included that information.
This is definitely my vibe, however real plants? Not so much. I don't have a green thumb so everything will be dead but I do try to find the most natural looking ones lol
I LOVE Organic Modern and Japandi design styles. Those two are my favorites. ❤
10:10 “Looks a bit like a jungle…” 🌿 That was the plan! Thanks for the feature
haha I'm sure it was! I'm still trying to keep one plant alive, let alone a jungle! 🪴
Thank you Nick for the Sundays recommendation you gave in one of the previous videos! I got the dining table and bench from them and they are perfect. Gorgeous, great quality and craftsmanship. I love them! Company’s customer support is also top notch. Overall great experience
Love Sundays!
I feel like this is what my style is and I didn't know it had a name. Thanks!
You are my bagel to my coffee. My morning coffee at my work desk is incomplete without watching your vids! :)
Nicks bougie style !! Is quite entertaining..can't wait for more!!
Know a lot from this video and really help me to sell our lamps to match furniture styles.
This is exactly what I needed!
This is exactly what I am wanting to do. Thank you.. my eye goes to cold, cool square.. and then I hate my room.. I want a cozy warm room it’s just not what I pick!! So frustrating
Thank you for speaking to me today!! Love your channel.
@jawjagrrl Sounds like a task for sure, but could be like a fun adventure, finding pieces that suit you! 😊
Have you done a video on how to decorate Art Nouveau ?
