This dub has some of the most blood curdling screams I've heard in anime. Sometimes it seems like someone was beating or terrorizing the voice actors with their greatest fear 😆
But yeah, the extreme violence was always a lot of fun. I picked this VHS up from an FYE in Washington DC back in the mid-90s, basically on a whim. I liked how the cover looked.

This was originally dubbed in 92-93ish and was a first role for several VAs who are big names now (Steve Blum as Guyver III comes to mind, and I know Sho's VA also did Agumon) And considering how translation was treated back then, this was above and beyond what we're used to. The fact that it still holds up almost 30 years later is a testament to their passion.
This Dub anime is the real way to do dub. This is the emotion that is needed in the voices which is why Japanese is superior. In this case the Dub is good enough.
The whole point is they need the control metal. Killing Sho in a bombing doesn't guarantee they'll get the control metal. They could kill Tetsuro but if they keep him and sister they can use them as leverage (which they do). In later episodes they stop trying this tactic and decide to try and kill them on the spot - Tetsuro and Mizuki not Sho
They want to kill sho while the guyver is activated by him. If they kill sho without it there goes their chance to get it back. If it was as easy and killing sho they could of done it long before.
@@arseniy OR you could kidnap who he loves most , lure him to a trap , let him transform into the guyver so the control metal is out in the open, then let a specially designed Zoanoid whose only function is to kill the guyver retrieve it...you know, like they do in episode 5....
This was 30 years ago in the early days of dubbing. Anime was extremely niche and considered a weird nerdy thing. Back then you'd just grab Steve from accounting and ask him to do a few lines of dialogue.

You are right that they had lower budgets to work with but YIKES I mean this is next level, like I said, it almost as if someone was making a parody but it's the real thing. I actually like some of the dubs others think are bad, such as Fist of the North Star, but this is just yikes.

I remember Dark Hero doing their own version of that, but this one is still the best.

Love how they make the Guyver very vulnerable, not overpowered. Makes you feel its more down to the user not the owner
The OVAs were good at nailing that balance. In the 2005 TV show the Guyver felt *too* vulnerable.

My sweet spot is any series whose writing contains a massive, worldwide conspiracy whose roots extend all the way to the dawn of man and beyond.

Is this a fan dub? Literally the worst voice acting I have ever heard, the head badguy's voice is literally like someone doing it as a joke.
