Because, honestly, some sports pay people for having won the genetic lottery and displaying an ability to play the sport. A lot of people, such as yourself, don't understand this in hopes that the system is less rigged: I'll save you the trouble, it isn't. Unfortunately, though, it is what it is.

Actually i don't agree with that. While basketball is played by many people, playing basketball that makes people want to pay hundred or thousands of dollars to watch isn't easy. The reason they get paid a lot is because its not easy to get to where they are. And if you suck, you will usually lose ur place in nba very quickly. People get paid depending how hard it is to get to where they are. I think people should be more shocked that police officers who follow a clear set of requirements get paid around 70000 a year with low chance of layoff. It doesn't require specific talent thats why they dont get paid millions.

jkesmoker You'd be surprised how many good athletes don't make it. I knew this one co-worker who played football at the tight end position and his nickname was YAC. Yards after catch because everytime he catches the ball he always gains yardage after the catch. A lot of people looked at his footage and wondered why he didn't get any looks from the prestigious college football programs. Just to keep in mind.

@@edcho5774 alotta jobs dont do that either. Anyways, a percentage of what is earned get taxed so it does help the govt and its normally alot of it. And many of them who are millionaires do do charity and donate, unlike the other lower pay people who just get their money and decides to mid their own business.
This is exactly what i've always, and will always, think about sports commentators.

I love how when Key's character starts laughing at 1:10, one of his eyes is half-closed. So many of these aged sports commentators have tics or other verbal/physical peculiarities that just grate on you after you notice them.

We know who disliked it- the dudes who invest so much of their time and emotion into following spectator sports they start frothing at the mouth when you tell them the absurdity of it all.
I love how they sneak in social commentary so often and ppl just take it as a jk but while they making some laugh they are also educating them

This is exactly what I've been saying about sports for the longest time, I'm not a fan of almost any sports nor do I have anything against people admiring the athleticism of these truly talented individuals but I feel that too many people over hype and make a big deal over something that really doesn't change anything
***** well don't get me wrong I can enjoy watching sports, I just don't consider myself a fan of most sports. What I'm referring to though is the people who will throw a child-like tantrum because "their team" lost, or people who will talk shit about an athlete when they don't even posses one-millionth of the skills those men out there have who train most of their lives to get to where they are. (And for those who read this and feel that you fall under that category please think to yourself "maybe I need to focus on my own accomplishments and not worry so much about everyone else's")
***** this is why I've always enjoyed watching key and Peele though. I remember when it first started I thought these guys were brilliant in how they can be hilarious but also bring out points that no one talks about because a lot of these things are considered normal in today's society. I know a skit can't change the world or in my case leaving a comment won't change the mentality of the people around me, but what I've learned is that if you can get people to talk about it, there lies the opportunity to put truth in front of their face and that's when they decide whether or not to accept it. That's what this show does in a sense, it takes these everyday hypocrisies, stupidities, etc. and exaggerate them a little just to make the statement clear and from there its up to the viewer to put their perspective on it.

***** I believe it'll come. I guess my whole point was that we won't make progress if nobody talks about it. I made that mistake growing up as a kid because I thought I was too different to explain my point of view, I didn't start making real friends until I started being myself and that helped me see life from a better perspective, I realized that maybe certain things didn't seem right because they weren't right. We as individuals can only take one step at a time, but the more people you move the more steps you have.

Nothing against sports, I love it, but they could've ran with the subject on how these professional players, some who have had some trouble with the law/drugs and/or never finished school, make more money in a year than regular upstanding citizens ever will their entire lives, a bit more for comedic effect.
xIchipoo My thoughts exactly. Usually they have a tendency to go overboard with a lot of sketches by carrying the joke on too long or overacting. Yet this was like the one sketch that I was disappointed that they didn't do any of that.

I'm glad someone pointed this out. I respect athleticism, teamwork and discipline, but I've never understood the fascination with watching grown men play games.
it sounds dumb when you point out the basics, but it's so much more than that, I bet whatever hobby you're into would sound just as dumb if you took out everything that made it special to you.
***** I understand all of that but I just don't get into sports. If I lived in the days of gladiators, I wouldn't get into that either. I'd probably be into plays if I was, because I like movies. I've never looked at athletes as heroes, just intellectuals. Nothing wrong with liking sports though.

Supply and Demand: Athletes get paid as much as they do because consumers tell the company (by spending money on the product) that's that's acceptable. If it actually bugged people, a large enough number of sports fans could probably go on "strike" to change things.
