Works on a Barista Pro, first time - what a revelation. Get the milk right and the coffee also seems to get a lift. Thanks for this excellent tip, I have spent so much time getting coffee right and milk has always been an afterthought.
have been doing this forever. Learned it from watching Dritan Alsela videos. On Brevilles it works better with the pitcher tilted though - the steam wand is tight enough to keep it comfortably in place
On my Rancilio Silvia, your ghost steaming was the only way I can make good micro-foam! I threw away so many pitchers of poorly made steam milk until I stumbled upon your video. Thank you!
Nifty, ta muchly. What I'm after now is an aftermarket no-burn jacket for the Sage steam wand, because the milk cakes on it instantaneously when you pull it out no matter how fast you are with the wet cloth. Maybe there'll be less caking with this technique.
Bought the Sage Barista Express Impress machine after your review and after a few attempts it now kicks out my perfect coffee. Better than any cafe as it’s just the way I like it. However it took a few attempts to get the milk right and it’s still a learning curve. I’ve yet to achieve any art other than a rabbits backside but hopefully this will help!
Wow, I kinda discovered this by myself a couple of years ago, never thought it was separate technique of its own. I just found doing it without moving the jug or wand around in a vain attempt to break up bubbles as I used to do led to more consistency and better microfoam. I'm still hopeless at any sort of art though, beyond a few jiggly lines.
@@Coffee_Kev Here it is - probably the best I can do. Apologies for the espresso flow and latte art - harder to do when you’re filming, as you so obviously know! th-cam.com/video/hzcTjrx0nv4/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the challenge!
I just tried manually holding the wand right on the edge of the jug on my Bambino Plus, milk overboiled and spat out the top! I suspect it went into cleaning mode so lesson learnt!
Great video and tip which I will be trying next. Kev has been a great help to me getting the most out of my Sage dual boiler - bought this after his review and his discount code
Hi Kev very helpful video thanks. Out of interest, do you know if the auto steam wand cuts the air injected when manually steaming milk on the Oracle? Thanks
Great video as always, thanks. There seems to be a distinct lack of vids of steaming milk on the oracle which yes has auto steaming, but I find it’s always inconsistent either too much micro foam or not enough. These have the four hole steam tip so is it still ok offset from centre to get a vortex and steam manually? Cheers
Its tricky on the bambino plus as the wand isn't on a ball joint, you may be able to do it by finding something the right height to put the jug on. re the auto steaming on the BP try to make sure you are using the same amount of ilk each time and make sure the jug is pushed fully over the temper sensor :-)
Love the videos. After seeing all the reviews i bought Sage Barista Express Impress ! Its amazing. All of it, now to practice this! But what milk is best? Whole? Or skimmed ? Furthermore, for a perfect cappucino- do i use a single shot and how milk goes on top? And a normal latte, single or double ? And milk? I have Capuccino glasses (delonghi) which i think are 180ML. And i have latte glasses which are 220ml... do i just fill them?
Hi, I have a Délongh, i use oat milk, can't drink deiry milk, I just can't get the oat Milk Frothy, at home, wit the steam wond, but when out & I get a coffee, wit oat milk, it' does be lovely & creamy, what am I doing wrong?
Hi Wayne, Try different oat milks I find the easiest ones to work with are oatly barista, and Moma Barista and minor figures barista. I use the Moma Barista and its great. Cheers Kev
@@Coffee_Kev really appreciate that reply, thanks. I just made a coffee today, I was Frothing the milk 60 seconds, that's the maximum, then I got the coffee to go in to the cup, & added the milk then, it wasn't as hot as I was expecting it to be, the machine isn't even 2 weeks old
Hi Kev…. Any tips on doing this “hack” with Sage Duo Temp. Have tried taking drip tray out to give extra height for steam wand but then milk jug is too low. Finding it difficult to position and leave, with steam tip just below surface of milk.
Hi David, it's just a case of playing around with the position, you should be able to find the right position with the DTP with a bit of experimenting. Ta, Kev.
After watching several of your vids i recently purchased the Bambino and the Sage Grinder, my order of your coffee beans arrived today and my Timemore Black Mirror scales are on order, so as a complete novice i'll soon be ready to try all the jazz. I'm more of an Americano / Black coffee drinker but i'll give this a go for the milky coffee's for when i have visitors. I have however tried out the steamer for a milky coffee with pre ground coffee just to try it out, what i found is that the coffee is only luke warm, steaming to only 65 C or thereabouts, as i'm not usually a latte drinker is this normal for the milky type coffee's ? As for the Bambino etc i find it a very good starter kit.
Do you have per chance any experience with the cafelat robot? I'm not too big on milk drinks but just can't decide between the more expensive robot and a bambino 😩
Tried with the Sage Bambino (not plus) a couple of times but to no success. Probably is just user error at this stage, but just wanted to see if anyone has had luck using this method with Oatly Barista milk before to make sure it works the same as cows milk?

Perfecting Latte are takes along time, practice makes perfect!
I will be trying this later. You made me realise I have too much froth!! BTW I just love your chocolatey decaff 😋 can't get enough of it.
Thanks Lynne :-)
Once again, on the button, old bean 🙏

Thanks for the demo Kev, i just got my Sage Express Impress last week can't wait to try it out. Cheers Leigh
Let me know how you get on Leigh :-)

Me too. I always thought this was just the way you used the frother. Glad to be an accidental barista expert. Lol 😂
I just got the sage barista pro, so I shall give it a go. Thanks for the tip.

@@Coffee_Kev I tried the technique this morning and it worked. So simple, thanks again for the useful tip 🙂
Well it’s going to be fun figuring out a way on my La Pavoni Europiccola 😂

Great tip but I'll stick with the auto steaming on my Bambino Plus as no ball joint. It's pretty spot on to be fair.
Cheers, yeah auto steaming on the BP is very good.

@2:37 Where is this knocking sound coming from?
So not too wet, not too dry, but just right so as not to upset the cows - and I think Wimbledon are keeping their balls cool, not warm...
That's it Martin 😆. Well, they're keeping them at a fixed temperature, which is warmer than anything which happens to be cooler.😁
Those loud noises sound like a Starbucks! 🤣
Haha
On the Barista touch - the steam want is of a pivot type - not a ball joint - so not as easy to get the angle just right 😢
Yeah that's true, although the Barista touch should do a pretty good job on auto, you not getting on well with the auto steaming?

Just tried it with the Bambino, works like a charm. Just try to get it so the tip is only just into the milk to start with.
This is with the Bambino, with Moma (oat) barista. bit.ly/3XIFTqO
