I'm 5'8 dark skin Vietnamese guy. The K-pop and BTS boom has helped me I think. I bartend and have been getting alot more attention from girls. I'm getting more numbers from girls and even approached for my number now. I mainly take how K-pop dress and hair style. Casual/dressy/casual. Dress pants, Big T tucked into Pants, White Air force 1s. Im def taking full advantage of the moment to expand my dating pool

Here's my opinion on the topic. If you're Korean, it definitely did help. If you're East Asian but not Korean, it depends on how open minded the person is. This whole attraction towards BTS and K-Pop can easily switch to "I don't date Asians" to "I only date Koreans". If you're not East Asian, it probably made it worst for you. If you're from South Asia and have darker skin, chances are you're not going to be seen Asian and be completely ignored. If you're Central Asian, people might assume you're mixed and brush you off since you're not "full Asian", even though you are. Also what we perceive as attractive changes over time. During the 80s and 90s, people like Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, and Chow Yun-fat were seen as very attractive. They would be seen as handsome today, but not attractive. So if you look more like Andy Lau than Jimin, hopefully you find a girl with an old soul or ask your aunty if she has some friends.

Then again, I mostly date non Asian women. I know that many Asian women tends to be attractive to feminine looking men aka K-Pop dudes. Honestly, I don't know if stereotype based thing. A lot of "hearthrobs" for young girls have sort of delicate or pretty features--Timothee Chalamet, young Leonardo DiCaprio-- all have an androgynous look. Maybe it seems more emotionally safe and relatable for shy young girls? I like both "pretty" men and men with more broad, masculine features. Both are hot. It really depends on his vibe. I think some women love men with "dad bods" because that seems comforting and safe. We don't have to worry about our own bodies as much.

K-pop singers are Korean Koreans and Shohei is a Japanese Japanese, namely they’re all non-Americans who are doing a part of their business in the states.
Their recognition is that Asia is never one nation so they would be perplexed if they are collectively called “Asians” and utilized by Asian Americans, saying like “Why are Chinese Americans proud of the success of South Korea or Japan? They have nothing to do with us.”
I know Americans tend to rely on something collective like Asian, Black, White, so on while Asia, Africa, Europe, are never one nation respectively. This way of thoughts do not apply outside the US. And most importantly, not all non Americans want to migrate to the states. This is especially the case with the Japanese bc there’s no reason for them to move to the US except for temporary business purposes (like Shohei or other expat businessmen) because they are economically content with their stable and safe lives in Japan, where they can enjoy the status of absolute majority ethnicity in their own homogeneous country.

It seems like, regardless of a guy's race, straight women generally prefer guys with a little bit of femininity in their features (Tom Hardy even has full lips and a softer look eventhough many perceive him as very masculine). If a guy didn't have any softness in their facial features, they would look quite threatening and angry. This look might have been more attractive a thousand years ago but I think humans in general have evolved to have a softer look over the generations for a reason.

But, possibly situation in Indonesia (I am Chinese Indonesian) is different because majority of population are muslims, so K-Pop only reach teenage girls in urban areas, while traditional girls from rural area still prefer either local Indonesian or Bollywood celebrities.

I live in a pretty diverse area, but still not a lot of Asian people in this city. I don't think many people in my area even listen to K-Pop, besides myself. I'm sure most women have heard of BTS, but also most of them in my area wouldn't be able to name a single member of BTS or even one of their songs. Overall, it is a net benefit for getting more eyeballs on Asian men as a potential romantic partner, but my gripe with hallyu other than the effeminate thing is that a lot of girls will exclusively idolize Korean men or Asians with softer features. The majority of Asian men aren't going to fit that mould of being a K-drama or K-pop idol. The Steven Yuens or Daniel Dae Kims that have managed to penetrate Hollywood will likely create a greater cultural impact for Asian masculinity. The average Starbucks-sipping, Lululemon legging-wearing girl in America is probably not going to be immersed in that Koreaboo world, it's still a niche within the macro mainstream pop culture.

And there are studies from Canada, US and Australia addressing that issue. Immigrant parents prefer boys, but they would do the minimal to integrate themselves and their boys in western society. Giving birth to boys and send them to Ivy League were considered “saving face”. But they don’t care about the boys mental state.

I hate how this type of discussion about the rise of Asian male attraction in the west is always about kpop. Kpop played a part, but it’s not just them. It’s an Asian boom in culture in general. Have you guys noticed at all how much more Asian representation and Asian things in general are in American society and culture compared to the past? More Asian actors, Asian athletes, Asian shows, Asian movies, Asian music, etc. kpop is just one of those. And you guys did speak of Asian athletes in this video. I did see many women go crazy over the Japanese and Korean soccer team during the World Cup.

All guys have to do is stand up tall aka look confident, don't be a jerk and clean yourself, like seriously take a daily shower and wear nice cloths. If you're always complaining about stuff, no one's going to want to spend time with you.
LOL, not sure why you choose a pic of Jungkook when he was 15 years old. If you took a more recent pic, he has a full arm tattoo sleeve and lip piercing. If you look up Jungkook boxing, you'll see he's very athletic. He has a very bad boy look with a very humble kind persona, there's a reason why he's popular in the WEST. Seriously, you guys don't know anything about people. Still only caring about the stereotypes. If you look at one pic and assume stuff, you are part of the problem. You, yourself are perpetuating the stereotype.
Go look up RM work out routine, he's slim and fit and he's six feet tall. He does not skip chest or leg day. These are members of BTS. There's definitely a reason why they are popular and it's not their 'feminine' look. If you don't know their fanbase, don't assume, you're just stereotyping and so you are part of the problem.

I think that maybe the Western expansion of anime and maybe even certain Asian video games (such as Genshin Impact) has helped Asian men more than K-Pop. Because for the most part, most K-Pop songs are sung in Korean. Not a lot of Americans speak Korean. Yes, there are some English songs, but not that many. A White American woman is probably not going to listen to K-Pop, sung in Korean. It's too much effort for them. But anime is much easier to watch, because they can always watch it dubbed. (Although I prefer subbed anime, but I'm also a very fast reader, so that helps. And I prefer to hear the original voice actors)
And through the video games, people of all races get to interact with Asian people and get to learn more about Asian culture and cuisine.
That shared experience opens the door for Asian men. For example, if I'm at a bar and I see a White woman (or Black or Latina) and she is wearing an anime shirt (like Naruto), then I will definitely approach her and talk to her about anime.

It's sad in these discussions about kpop bringing more spotlight on asians in the west is always centered on BTS. I know they achieved world wide success unlike any other group, but theyre not the ones changing the way Asians are perceived in the west. We all know there are far better looking groups like EXO and Monsta X that are known for being a visual group, who really put attractive asians on the map. If you look at early hype of EXO in like 2014-15 visiting US in that clip they really knocked out their fans with their looks. And Monsta X is one of the best looking groups where 90% of the members are attractive - not to mention they're one group that has a more masculine look to them with buffer bodies, and more masc. faces so it's good AM representation. BTS is nothing but a group of average looking men in comparison; they're really not that attractive to change AM perception in the west they just make good music.
Plus nobody ever talks about kdramas in these types of discussions for some reason. It's always only bts and their impact. But weren't kdramas popping waay back before kpop ever did? Before kpop got big with BTS and Blackpink many of us actually discovered kpop through kdramas. And like you've mentioned kramas don't shy away from more masculine male representation so you can't just make fun of femminine "gay" east asian men. I know that kdramas even got really big in Latin America. Just by reading comments you get a picture and scope of the fanbase. But y'all and discussions like these never talk about kdramas when soo many women were thirsting over korean actors way before bts even debuted.
Last but not least I wanna mention the Asian TH-cam community that was popping off in early 2010's (NigaHiga, Wong Fu prod., and Fung Bros). You should talk about the asian visibility and role they played in upping Asian male appeal even if y'all didn't notice it yourselves, along with the rise of asian dance crews like Quest Crew that were also popping back then. Can you cover next time what Asian youtubers did for Asian Men?? (I know for sure many girls found Ryan Higa attractive). How come none of you acknowledge asian-american youtubers? Why is it only kpop?
