  • A unique fuzz design? WITH a Gladio SC built into it? AND two separate and switchable voicing controls? Yeah, this'll play.

Daaaamn! That intro song is on fire! Love it! And I love Cornerstone! The Gladio is one of my favourite bass overdrives.

I just ordered an Ox Stomp, any suggestions of what works best with it? I have an HX Stomp, looking to get some nice preamp pedals for different sounds.

I like how you accidentally nailed the guitar tone for Protection by Movements at 5:44

I have their antique 2, it's probably my favorite drive I own, maybe tied with the BB2. I imagine this is of similar quality, I'll have to give it a shot and see if it'll work well stacked with the Antique. Some fuzzes play really well with TS circuits, I hope this is one of them. I did not like how the gladio stacked so I sold mine, makes me a little concerned with all their marketing talking about how there's a gladio circuit inside.

Hi! I think there's nothing better than test it in person 🙂. We added the Gladio as part of the pedal here because I believe it's the pedal of ours that offer the best stacking behavior, but anyway, stacking the Nero with an Antique could be really rewarding too!

I know they're leaning into the sales pitch of it having a Gladio SC inside, but it doesn't have the biggest feature of a Gladio SC, the clean blend. I guess blending the OD and the fuzz can be useful, but I don't believe it's accurate for Cornerstone to say people are also getting an SC circuit. I'm sincerely not trying to argue semantics, and i'm sure this is a great product, but I believe it's important to point out that the marketing isn't really accurate.

interesting. I didn't really see any of the promo for this before putting the video together so I wasn't sure WHAT was being claimed re: the inclusion of a Gladio SC. Site seems a bit weird in the way in talks about it but theres a thread over on the gear page that has an explanation on how the comp specifically works w/ the GSC. maybe that ought to be included in an updated version of the manual.

    • @cornerstonegear
      @cornerstonegear 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

Hi! Let me clarify this (I'm sure I could explain it better on the website and probably I will).
The Nero, is composed of two sections: a Fuzz that I designed. Follow by an entire Gladio SC circuit with fixed Gain.
When I say "entire" I really mean it. There's 100% of the Gladio SC in it. Including the biggest feature of the SC: the Clean. Which is not called "clean" (because there's a fuzz section in front) so I called it Comp. Why? Because it still work as parallel mixer, allowing the fuzz sound to bypass the whole SC section.
SO, the Comp control is exactly the Clean control of the Gladio SC but wired in REVERSE:
when the comp is at minimum = Gladio SC Clean is at max
when the comp is at max = Gladio SC Clean is at minimum
Putting Comp at minimum means: All the Fuzz sound is both entering into the Gladio and bypassing it. So at the output jack you’re hearing (Fuzz + Gladio in series) in parallel with Fuzz only.
Putting Comp at maximim means: All the Fuzz sound is only allowed to enter the Gladio. So at the output jack you’re hearing only Fuzz + Gladio (in serie).
It might seems pretty complicated, so this is why I didn’t put all this explanation on the manual.
I hope this will clarify your concerns, and you could be convinced that actually it is accurate to say that there's a SC circuit in the pedal, of which you can "only" control the Clean (here called "comp") but having full control of the Gladio SC section is not the purpose of a pedal that is presented as a fuzz and not as a double side pedal where one side is a Fuzz and the other is an SC.

@@cornerstonegear Emilio, thank you for the thoughtful and detailed response. I sincerely hope you didn't feel I was being overly critical of your company or the Nero. I just felt the initial marketing, and even many of the online demos, have been somewhat confusing in regards to the SC circuit and exactly what the Comp feature is doing. I can also appreciate the additional complication of conveying these things in English, when that is a second language for the company/country of origin.
I also want to be clear that i'm not knocking Mark or his excellent performance and presentation skills, or any of the other content creators who have participated in the initial release. I realize it can be difficult to describe the more technical functions of a pedal and TH-cam video compression can also make it hard to hear exactly what is happening in the room with the turn of a knob.
As an aside, Before your company had US distribution partners I purchased one of of the first Gladios directly from you and your wife. I love the aesthetics of the Nero believe it's the best looking pedal you guys have made. I'm certain it's a high quality, well made, product. I always have multiple dirt pedals on my board, for different flavors of boost, overdrive, distortion, and fuzz. I have no doubt that a Nero will find it's way into my collection at some point. All the best to you and your family, and the continued success of Cornerstone.
