Vietnam Airlines Singapore to Ho Chi Minh in Business Class. This was the first leg of our flight to London. Yes, we were flying with Vietnam Airlines Business class for the first time. Our previous experience in Economy on Vietnam Airlines (Singapore to Hanoi return) was pretty good! Reviews here - VN660: • Vietnam Airlines Econo... AND VN661 • Vietnam Airlines Hanoi... .
So, it was very exciting to try their premium product in Business. In this first leg, after spending some time at the SATS Premier Lounge at Changi Airport Terminal 3 (Review - • SATS Premier Lounge Ch... ), we proceeded to board the plane. My first surprise was that this aircraft only had 2 Business class rows, for a total of 8 seats! And for this flight, only 6 seats were taken, i.e. only 6 pax in Business. This made for a wonderful crew to passenger ratio in the front of the cabin!
Bear in mind Singapore to Ho Chi Minh was only a 2 hour flight. What would the catering be like on this short leg? Turned out to be rather good. There was no menu, however, there were several choices of mains, including braised pork with rice or fish with rice. Taste was all good. Plenty of alcohol, if you cared for that. Flight stewardesses were attentive and took very good care of us.
The Airbus A321 plane used was rather old, and the seats were old-school style. No USB ports and no individual In-flight entertainment system. No matter, this was a short flight, and a taster for the upcoming long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner leg to London Heathrow!
Upon landing, there was no aerobridge and we had to take a bus to the terminal. The good thing was that a smaller bus was catered just for Business class passengers. Once the 6 of us got on board, the bus sped off and we arrived at the terminal very quickly. No need to wait for the Economy class passengers to disembark. VN's A321 fleet is quite old but I hope the service satisfied you. :) And hope you did enjoy my country.

actually the A321 fleet is 5.4 years old. This narrow body aircraft is very popular for regional and short flights. I know SQ use wide body aircraft for this route but the rest using a320/321 or b737. Actually we find the economy seats in these aircrafts are more comfortable than the ones in B787.

Your airplane is a VN-A338 A321-231 the seating of the business class is the same of the A321 except the long ranged airplane such as VN-A334,335,692,606, and 610
On this flight, the Business class had 2 rows. On my flight back, the Business Class on the A321 had 4 rows.

Too bad there is no inflight entertainment this flight. Even though it is a short flight, it loses out to other airlines that provide it even for their economy class.
Yes. The A321 used for their regional flights are all not equipped with personal IFE.
The absence of the personal IFE keeps the costs and weight down, especially of the regional flights. Moreover, the Vietnamese Government subsidises the air fares out of Vietnam to keep the fares lower than the market prices.
For the 8 seater A321 Business Class, it's used on certain A321s while a good majority are 16-seaters in the Business Class section.
