@@EuropeanSpaceAgency And according to the infographic the pods would be 50 degrees ferenheight/10 Celsius inside. Could they get below freezing or is it more likely they would be beteeen 10c and freezing inside? And I understand it says that the pods would be dark and quiet inside to they obviously would not be see into. It said it would probably be induced using some type of drug or drugs have you considered BCP-019 which is a combination of two drugs actually or only DADLE?
Could we use the new discovery using tardigrad protein to protect cells in tuper thus facilitating hibernation or suspended animation.i read about the protein research from them in mice using such to protect there cells they were successful. Could it be used for research to this end.also a long shot of sharks in that live 500plus years longest animal life no answers why.
Brilliant! As a Biology undergraduate, I hope to do research on hibernation someday. I thought hibernation was one of those far fetched concepts that only exists in sci fi but seeing actual research being done on such a topic made me so happy. Thank you ESA for bringing us one step closer to the future we deserve among the stars…✨🪐🚀
is this like cold hibernation where people are cryogenically frozen or warm hibernation more like an artificial coma? also wouldnt problems like radiation and bone deterioration still apply to hibernating people, especially if they are not frozen?
1. if their hibernating you can probably shield them allot better since they'll be in the same spot for the 8 months. Lead hibernation coffins or a protective EM field. 2. Yes, though most animals that hibernate do not experience atrophy, so if we can figure out the mechanism that makes that possible we could apply it to humans, both on and off earth.
they'll be doing human hibernation experiments on earth for a long time first. This form of hibernation is likely going to be a very straining process, it would not likely be possible for those already near death. Also hibernation does not stop the progression of illnesses.
@@jimpickins7900 Have they already tested long time hibernation on humans and I mean a human hibernated for 9 months straight? Never heard about it. Maybe an evolution of that could help terminally ill to overcome increasing period of pain when maybe euthanasia is not yet advised or still needed.
Makes sense! Thank you for sharing your research, ESA! Keep up the good work & keep advancing European space flight!
Our pleasure!

Would they need any enteral or parenteral nutrition during hibernation?
I could hibernate naturally, all winter I could sleep like a bear. No problem. Work keeps me awake!
This is a fantastic and very informative video. It’s brilliant that through this research, lives might be improved here on earth.
Glad you enjoyed it!
And would the astronauts still produce urine during hibernation?

Crazy that fiction is slowly becoming reality each day. Can't wait to see what the future holds for humanity
I have some questions is it known if they would still need iv feedings during hibernation? also would they still produce urine?

Our pleasure, Eren! ☺
Good research.. thanks for the information
Go ESA!
Nerualink is the key to this in the next few years when they start human trials later this year

NECESSARY AND MUST SPACE WALK AFTER THE TRAINING
When will it be experimented on humans for long time travel?
Could it be used to live longer when terminally ill?

"Each astrounaut need 30kg consumables per day" what are you talking?
👀 let’s see what this is about!
Amazing content.
Glad you enjoyed it
indeed humans are too expensive to simply maintain
we better hibernate as many of us as we can here on sarth too, thus
they don't know 😂😅
ESA ☄️✨🚀🪐 YOU'RE CONTENTS ARE AWESOME👍👏😊AND VERY INTERESTING.... 💙to watch
Thank you for watching!
