The Space 1999 episode with the alien that sucked people to death like a spider was amazing. Scary as hell but thats what makes incredible TV

What an endearing character, so passionate about his work.
Grew up on Space1999 and other ‘out of this world’ creations, that we were privileged enough to watch, on UK TV.

I know exactly where Bill Pearson is coming from but for all of us who Blake's 7 'clicked' for, it was truly wonderful. It was almost perfect and I wouldn't want to change it in any way, I loved it even watching on my little 12 inch black and white TV as a 13-year-old. I mean, who didn't want their very own Liberator with Zen and Orac?!

I literally stumbled upon your channel looking for something else and I have to say it is brilliant. As a model builder, to see stuff like this gives me very happy memories and inspires me to keep on building my little dioramas and other kits!

I was one of those kids watching that infamous episode at 11am on a Saturday morning, I couldn't sleep for weeks and since then have dreamt about that episode every now and then. Whenever in a conversation with a contemporary about Space 1999, you only have to say " Did you see that episode,,,," and then an alarmed fearful expression creaps over their face " Here be Dragons" they whisper. I've watched Space 1999 several times on several channels and I've never seen that episode again, I suspect it has been banned. Childrens TV in those days was a minefield of psychological scarring.

It was shown at night here in the states, but it was still a terrifying and surprisingly graphic episode. Was shocked at the partially "eaten" corpse shown on a prime time show.

@@RobinDale50 It's funny. The episode also scared the crap out of me when I was young. But when I look at it today, I now see a lot of latex and hidden wires. 😁

I remember "The Medusa" touch. The plane crash scene was always disturbing. Years later when life imitated art even more so.

That 1999 Scene appeared in my dreams years later as an adult. I knew I'd seen it before and I didn't figure it out until I bought the big Space 1999 DVD Set. PTSD from Space 1999 LOL.

When I was a kid it scared the crap out of me seeing the monster! I was 10 in 75..... I saw the episode for the first time last week on Prime...... it was still haunting!

I was 5...I slept under my covers for years after. I've thought there should be a "Dragon's Domain" support group somewhere. Nothing ever caused as much terror...

that episoode, "Dragon's Domain" gave me screaming nightmares for weeks. If you watch it now there is no surprise it had that effect. Space: 1999 is the most existential/nightmarish of the SF shows (in Season 1 before Freiberger ruined it, obviously)

Dragon's Domain was quite frightening to me as a kid, but as I grew into adulthood, I realized the more impactful aspect of the episode was the irony of how after the moon left earth orbit and meandered through space that, as happenstance would have it, the moon drifted to the exact position of the graveyard where the Ultra probe had met it's end. Of course, Tony Cellini was vindicated of everything he had been accused of for five plus years and the monster was finally vanquished. The other thing I really loved about Dragon's Domain was it was a chance for the viewers to see a bit of life on Alpha before Breakaway. Koenig with a yellow pilots sleeve, Space News on the television, Helena in earth clothes before she was assigned to Alpha, and we also got to see M's office from 007 complete with the red padded door, borrowed shortly after its final use for a Bond movie to be briefly employed as Commissioner Dixon's office. A sensible use of what was already available at Pinewood Studios rather than go to the expense of building a new set for a ten minute scene. Anyway, certainly one of my top three episodes, and a shining example of how superior series one was to series two.

Blakes 7 though - proves that script quality is more important than the gloss that sci fi is too often wrapped up in. It remains eminently watchable despite the limitations of its budget.

In the cabinet to the left of Bower there's a model of the sphere from 1964's "The First Men In The Moon". I wonder if it's a miniature from the movie or just a replica?
