The purpose of life is to continue. Most of the time we are only aware of the proximate goals. Why am I studying engineering? To get a good job. That is a proximate goal. The real goal is this: The better job will better position the person in his community to entice a better mate.
Because we need the opposite sex to replicate, and the DNA of the opposite sex can vary in quality, there is competition to mate with the person with best DNA. Combined with the fact that resources are limited (have a cost), and replication requires resources, our purpose can be stated as "to replicate our DNA at the cost of other DNA."
If our sole purpose is to replicate at the cost of others, would asking people to volunteer to have fewer kids work? First, this is a hard sell as it is going against the core purpose of every cell in our body. So the cost of sales will be high, and conversion rate will be very small. The other problem is that the converted minority cannot significantly impact the climate, and when they see majority around them replicating freely it will hard for them to sustain their motivation. Therefore the volunteer approach does not appear to work for this type of transformation. Perhaps the right place to do it is public policy/law.
The other question is this. What has Adhaytam got to do with managing risks to survival of the species? Survival is the concern of the worldly mind. To reduce the worry of existential threats, which by the way have been around forever, here is something to remember. There are billions of planets with trillions of instances of life. Who cares if one spec of dust called Earth no longer has life on it? The universe will not notice it. No one will. It does not matter.

This is how we live. Trying to do small, small good things so that we can conveniently escape away from the fact that there is something humongously evil that we are doing.
How we want to hide our complicity in the great crime of killing this planet, by doing all those little, little good things. In fact, doing those little good things is a good indicator that you are doing some great evil that you want to hide by doing some little good things.
So all the elites living in the posh colonies and having a greatly big carbon forefront would be at the forefront of a tree plantation drive.
Are you prepared to go childless? No, no, no. I'm not going to fight against my hormones, my uterus and my body, that is nothing some thing I am going to do. But otherwise, I must be seen as very progressive, and earth-loving, and green.
The one thing that must be addressed, I will not commit myself to. The elephant in the room will not be addressed. About everything else I will be liberal, very progressive.
There is hardly any firm, any company that is not complicit in global warming. There is hardly any aspect of human business, international markets, production, distribution, shipping, logistics that does not contribute to climate change. So you work in those firms throughout the day. And then you come back and work two hours a week in a community garden, and then you want to absolve yourself of the guilt?
This goes out to all the do-gooders, who think that by donating two hours of their week to some green NGO, they will be able to wash the blood of their hands. You will not be able to wash the blood of your hands. You are killers, you are criminals. And on top of that you pretend to be lovers of the planet. You pretend to be pro-life, progressive, and liberal. You are not.
You require a deeply spiritual consciousness to understand what I am saying and act on what I am pointing too.
Babies don't fall from the skies. They come from deep body identification. And that body-identification is the curse of this planet.
We do not see the linkage between body identification, consumption, procreation and devastation. We look at them as different thing. This urge for development, what do you think? It has nothing do with the devasting of the planet?
