And the other thing that would have saved me recently when gluing up a cutting board is putting salt on the glued surfaces to prevent them from sliding. That alone was worth watching the 12-minute video. You have a new subscriber now!
I've never seen the right angle clamps before! Such a solid solution!!
Making these for sure!
I would call them a “must have” for sure !!!!👍👍
I'm a professional of many years in the field and I found your communication great and really enjoyed this. The salt is a trick I'd never heard. Fantastic.
Yes, the salt and the little nail head tricks are great, and so are the triangles with 3 holes. Thanks for this.
Many "tips" on woodworking videos have been repeated again and again. This is the first time I have ever heard of the salt trick to deter slippage when gluing. Well done!
@hello Robert how are you doing?
Beginners??? I'm 65 and I learned a couple of things here. Thank you!
🤣You're very welcome! :)
I almost didn't watch this because I have seen so many tips and tricks that are just lame. Well this was one out of the box! You addressed about every problem I gave been dealing with for years. Normally clamping glued wood for me means reach for the mallet, now it means pass the salt. Thank you so much! Every one was a gem!

Salt has become my best friend in the workshop. If anyone asks about it though, I tell them that the secret is tequila.😉
I've been doin' this stuff for 50 years a this kid taught me something,
@Adriel R Hello friends, while browsing the internet, I came across a book on how to do some woodwork, I think you should take it and read it.

I love learning from others’ experience. And it’s so rewarding when I get to teach (happens less than I’d like lol) age means nothing in either direction. It’s all about teamwork and sharing/collecting ideas.
Have you had to take time off due to pain and numbness in your hands due to much work?? If so, please tell me what kind of pains you faced. Also suggest what i could do to improve your condition and the company production times and efficiency.. also helps if you're from the furniture industry..
I'm a general contractor for over 39 years and you are one of the best on TH-cam! Anyone giving you a thumbs down are your competitors, you keep doing what your doing and if you ever want to build a house let me know. I have projects all over.
THis was amazing.. That Nail trick for the dowel center was brilliant.

The salt trick is excellent, not only it prevents the pieces from moving it also enchants protection and wards off against ghosts and spirits.
😳huh?
LOL

Hahahahahahahahaha fairies too
I've heard of seasoned lumber, but I never thought of adding spices. Great tips and effective teaching. I am just starting to work with wood. Thank you!
Seasoned lumber.. haha!
Hey Glen,
I am a thirty year professional and as well as I notice many of your tips and tricks I have to say that I have learned several tricks from you. You are a quality carpenter and I appreciate your work!
Jeff Union Carpenter!
I teach woodworking in Sweden. I'm gonna use and teach all of these. Great stuff! Keep it up!
Here are some great woodworking plans if you're interested: www.WoodPlanner. xyz
Great tips - the salt, the rubber band fix for clamps - magic! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing these goodies! Very useful tricks. I even watched it twice.
@hello Bill how are you doing?
Thank you for putting all of these tips in a single video instead of stretching each trick out to a 10 minute video with clickbait titles. Thanks for calling them tips and not hacks. Thanks for the lack of intrusive music.
This is what TH-cam’s algorithm should be rewarding.
100% agree with every "thanks" you listed here. So much trash on youtube.
The salt trick is one of the most useful tricks I've never heard of! Thank you!!! And the nail marker for the dowel is so simple, yet never thought about it. Great video!
A tips and tricks video of tips I'd actually use.
Thank you.
@Steve Jarvis 😎
what a good job, congratulations

@@mungkeygp5214 hello how are you doing?
There are so few shop woodworking videos that share these kinds of tips for beginners with the inexpensive alternatives tools. I so appreciate you!
This guy is so relaxed, I like him. Most DIYers are hyper. Thumbs up
I have been in carpentry for 30 years, I learnt some new tricks, keep up the good work.
It always seemed to be a very grateful profession, carpentry.
I dont care what you put in your videos, I'm watching them. Definatly appreciate the clear instruction, great tips for people like me who are starting out. Love the salt trick.
I have been asked at school to run a class for a few children with disabilities, bird boxes ect. which is a change from renovating old houses, some of your tips will come in very handy. thanks from Alan Simpson ~ Northumberland UK.
Great video.
I started as an apprentice joiner 60 years ago (in the u.k. age 15) but only did 4 years then change to architecture. Even to this day I enjoy using different ideas to make practical jobs easier. Some of these tips I've never seen and are brilliant in their simplicity.
One tip I would pass on is that when using smooth dowels with glue, always make sure to cut a shallow groove along the dowel to allow some glue to escape when the dowel is tapped in.
Son, I'm an old man and I sure wish I had learned your tips years ago. They are great and for those who are lucky enough to find this video, it will save them an incredible amount of frustration. Thank you, well done.
@hello Thomas how are you doing?
You just made me remember a real construction professional....my father. He taught me the trick with the dowels and the screw back in the 70’s. I was just 10 years old. Now, I am a licensed home improvement contractor in Maryland. I was born in Nicaragua. In Nicaragua we have a direct influence from Spain when it comes to construction, more over, Nicaragua has the oldest colonial city in America (Granada) named after Granada in Spain.
Nice video!
Glen - I have to say this is one of the best videos I have come across on TH-cam. There is no BS and extending out the video to get maximum face time. You get to the point quickly and efficiently.Kudos to you sir.
The tips were great as I did not know any of them. You presented something new for viewers like me, and that speaks volumes in this day and age.
Lastly, it was very refreshing to see a video that did not plug a related or unrelated product (which for some TH-camrs goes on relentlessly!). It shows that you are doing this to impart the knowledge that you have built up over the years. That is the sign of a true gentleman. Subscription tendered.
I look forward to seeing similar videos from you.
Thank you and all the best.
Mr A Novice. ;-)
I've been woodworking for years, but I learned some great tips from this video!
I love your style too. You're friendly, considerate of beginners and tight budgets and easy to understand.
Great job! Keep it up! (subscribed!)
Agreed!!

Some of the best tips I've ever seen on TH-cam! Love the bandiclamp trick!!
Great stuff! I like the salt trick. Very innovative.
@hello Jobi how are you doing?
Been woodworking for almost 40 years. Thank you for your ideas. I enjoyed your video.
Wow... that taped nail for the exact marking is a crazy smart idea! Thank you for your knowledge! 👊🏽

Dude you have helped me build furniture for my new house with all these tips since you've been on TH-cam and saved me thousands! Props brother. Thank you so much
I now subscribe to three channels. Yours is one of them. Teaching High school woodshop for 15 years and all I can think about now is all of the things I DID NOT teach my students. But I will now. Thank you!
@hello Tom how are you doing?
Gotta say that I started watching this thinking I would know everything you were about to show me. Glad that was not the case. Good video, very clever ideas.
A lot of useful tricks I've never seen before, thank you.
Wasn't expecting much as a fairly experienced woodworker. Pleasantly surprised!! Great video man!

I love this guy! Nothing pretentious, just good honest advice..
I did buy those clamps because they were cheap. Thanks for giving me a way to make them useful!
Stumbled across your channel and love it! I'm cleaning out the garage and getting tools organized and my old machines up and running to hopefully take on small home tasks and possibly a few side jobs. I love that you keep those of us in mind that might not have all the specialty tools!
I liked and subscribed! Thank you for the directions and tips!

These tips are not just for beginners, they are a benefit for all who do everything from crafts to more complex projects. Thank you. Keep them coming.
I think I just found my new favorite TH-cam DIY personality.
The salt trick.. mind is blown. Thank you good sir 👍
don't be to impressed. of course they moved the first time, he just tossed a clamp on at a odd angle, the next time he did it with salt he put it on far more carefully.
Seriously, but now I can't stop thinking about what the change the chemistry adding an acid to the glue does for the bond over time... Any wise Chemists out there?
@@Notsure1020 There's salt in the air near the ocean and people have been using wood for buildings. Wood dock pylons are submerged into salt water. I think it will be fine.
Yes known trick but many manufacturers don't recommend to mix salt in their glue. I would use some fine white sand or fine playsands. Lots of vids out there. I just don't want shaking salt on a typical basis can corrode the metal tools around me. But all due respects a very brilliant video here thanks man!

Just starting to get into woodworking (only in the dreaming phase, haha) and found your channel a while back. Love the content, and how you explain everything so clearly! These tips and tricks were great! New favorite channel for sure.
Salt, what an incredible part of our LIVES!
Nice work DIY!!!
Thanks so much for this video! All your tips were great, but the salt tip was the best, ever!
I was eating salty fries at 2am when I happened upon this video! Great work!
I'm sure someone else has already said it, but the salt trick is genius. Thanks
Stay safe.
I absolutely love your channel. You are teaching and explaining in ways that are easy to understand without over thinking it or adding too much. Direct and quick points with a nice personality. Thank you.

Or you’ve thought of making something custom for a specific need
Or you’ve struggled to find detailed plans to build your dream project

really love your tips and tricks Glen .....they help out a lot when we are setting timbers in our underground mines
Great video, I teach high school woodshop and will use these tips in class. Thank you
Every tip was an revelation to me. Especially the salt tip. Many times have I glued pieces together, walked away and returning to find them offset despite my best efforts. Subbed. Well done!
I've been a carpenter for over 20 years and I learned a lot! Awesome video and great ideas! Keep up the great work and thank you
Glen, you lived up to your ‘beginner’ statement. You didn’t start of using thousands of dollars worth of shop tools. Every tip was at a real beginner level but also useful to advanced woodworkers. I’m going to use your idea about spring clamps and rubber bands to repair some edge banding on a coffee table shelf. Had no idea how to secure it. Man, I’d love to be a helper in your shop for a month or two. It would be a speed course in practical woodworking. Many thanks!
Start ‘off’, not ‘of’.
I have had a hammer in my hands since I was 12 yrs old (60 yrs ago) and your tips are new to me and I will certainly use them.
Great show!!!!
This comment is so pure oml
"Seasoning" the glue...now that's an idea...brilliant !
And what kind of wine do you ever with that seasoned wood? Or does it depend on the type of wood? 🤣
@@Normal1855 Maybe a "Dewalt" 10/60t? Wood that make a nice "whine"?

Great tips- gonna do some woodworking- will watch your videos! Thanks
@hello David how are you doing?
Who the heck downvotes this man's contribution? And why?
I'm almost 60 years old and I learned something new here. If you didn't that's great, but why downvote the man?
I didn't notice that until I saw your post. Makes absolutely no sense. These were all great tips.
