Great point! I'd rather they build lobbies by SR. DR seems to be a measure of time spent playing the game and not necessarily a measure of quality. Most people falsly believe they have to raise their DR to get into "Top Split" and better quality drivers. BS! As a former A DR: A lobbies can be just as dirty/lousy as C lobbies, with the same speeds! Sure A's usually have quicker speeds, but they are RUTHLESS! DR is lost quicker than it is gained is all you need to know that it is an irrelevant mark of quality. It's PD's way of keeping you playing to increase your believed value. It's why they are quick to take it away so you'll play MORE! It is a complete sham. I'm actually happier just bumping along in the C/B world again. Who cares If I get punted...again. it's a game. If it was serious PD would treat it as such. Subscribed.

@McNaughty the whole game sucks in every department atm and so do the bad racing community 🤬 Dr & Sr don't mean a thing until the rest of the game gets fixed, good luck with that one, will never happen, they just Ignore it as they always have 👍

Your mindset about wanting to challenge yourself at higher levels should be the same mindset that everyone should have, and not only with Gran Turismo, but in many other aspects of life as well. I learned long ago that I learned better and got better faster when I was challenged by competing at higher levels in whatever I was doing. Not only that, but the reward meant much more when I did well at the higher levels. Then there is the growth at a personal level when we all realize that we are not perfect and that losing part of the process of learning.
So whether you are playing video games, playing chess, bowling or running, if you limit yourself to playing people that are not as skilled as you, you don't learn, you get bored and it gets to the point where winning means less.
Your video is great advice especially if people realize that it is a lesson that they can apply in many other areas of life, and learn to make life more enjoyable.

I had to back out of a race this week ,I noticed my router/wifi was at one red bar. I did not want to hold up the lobby so I quit the 6 lost a ton of DR. This is where the game can be better. Don't punish a player trying to do the right thing. I don't like this game at the B level, too much immaturity.

@@robertmenshausen6321 I've quit a few lobbies after matching. I saw dirty drivers or had to go. Then find out my DR is penalized for quitting before the race?! Come on PD. The senseless penalties, not enforcing dirty driver band, on and on. So for many reasons I believe DR is a worthless indicator of who is actually a good driver.

Well said. Race craft and sportsmanship is most important in my opinion. If you can not race without smashing people, then it does not matter what DR you have. I would rather have a great side by side battle for 12th then to win by 10 secs. Yes, a win is great but without a challenge then you might as well just TT. My favorite thing is starting in the back to see how many clean overtakes I can make. As someone in the comments said, "most satisfying thing to see is the ‘Clean Race Bonus’ at the end of the race."

I gave up on worrying about being A+ a while ago, and now focus on my driving and race craft (I'm near the top of A, and get totally outclassed in mostly A+ lobbies). Last week at Brands was great for close racing (for me anyway) - this week I'm focused on practicing Grand Valley in the 650s, mostly because I'll be using the 650s in an upcoming league, but also because I'm useless at the 1st half of the 2nd sector! I really want to become competent at that left left, right right combination.

I remember how one time, Schumi qualified badly and was in the mid pack. Afterwards he said to the press how he enjoyed actually racing and fighting for every position, instead of just starting from pole and driving off into the big blue beyond.
Me, I climbed my way up to b/s in gtsports, and then lost interest. I wasn't getting any faster anymore, I'm at that age where you only get slower. I might still climb, just being smart about it tactically, but I wouldn't be a better driver. So onlines lost their flavour. And I will
NOT use tricks like allowances outside track limits. That's not on. I'm the oldskool geezer that is convinced kerbs are there for when you're in a tight spot. Normally you don't touch them. The white line is for not touching at all, unless you have no choice. Let alone rules about the inner or outer wheels going over. That's not cricket, sport. You don't go over at all, ever. Be a gent.
All in all, I haven't been online in gt7 ever. Gtsports was kinda alright, gt6 was fun. Gt6 didn't have ratings, so I could just go out there without consequence. We made friendships too, by staying in one room all night. Now, it feels like monetizing a hobby. You have to be good all the way or you won't be taken serious. I'm just playing a game of an evening, the dayjobber that I am. It's like there's no room for me, and it's not even a real sim like iRacing.
It's not my job, I just want to have fun. But the game, GAME mind you, won't let me.

Well spoken! Me, a DR-B driver (halfway through B) likes to participate in public leagues, where I come across all sorts of DR ratings. There it really doesn't matter, and in qualifying most of the A rated drivers literally fly past me, but so do lower rated drivers very often. It's all down to how everyone behaves on track. There I don't really wave the quicker drivers by, but I know when it's time to fight not too hard, because fighting too hard results in loosing time for everyone.
With regard to the dailies, back in the days of GTS, I saw at the higher end of the B rating, that there seems to be quite a bottleneck, everyone's trying to gain DR at all costs to get to the A rating. This often results in an elbows-out mentality that is frustrating, let alone those deliberately dirty drivers who make life hard for everyone.
The car choice: well, I like the idea of learning a particular car and becoming perfect with it on most of the tracks. For instance, I like the Gr.4 and Gr.3 Corvette, and I did A LOT of racing with them. I can honestly say that ... within my driving skill ..., I'm most of the time quicker than myself using the alleged meta car of the top leader board. I had a lot of clean races in B lobbies (they are not THAT bad), and I enjoy it when I can at least stay with the others who think just by using the meta car does make theme quicker.
    Happy racing ~ TCR_710-Cap ala CLR_PurpleInLap2

I have reached A+ on all my EU accounts, and in my opinion A+ is just a fancy badge to boost your own ego in a way.
In general the rank does matter, in most cases an A+ driver is faster and more consistent than a B ranked driver and for good reason, However that dosent mean that an A+ driver can be beaten by a B ranked driver, it can have several reasons for that happening.
Keeping the A+ is really hard, taking into account your time of day you are playing + region + the amount of % A+ drivers the region has.
That can easially be 3 A+ drivers and the rest is A ranked drivers in a lobby, That means one slipup and you loose an enourmus amout of DR, and a high finish dont grant you alot of DR.
In my opinion, the best racing in EU is found at around 75% of A.

I stay between D and C class. The higher I get in class the more dirty players I run into. I also like starting from the back of the pack. I have posted some of my races. But I am guilty of only using a certain car. Because I try to imagine that in real life you can't change car on every race.

    • @voongnz

The vast majority of incidents up to DR B is actually inexperience. A tight group of people with close lap times but different ways of getting it. Different braking points, turn in points, accel points, lack of spatial awareness etc. A lot more mistakes because of this. In A and A+, the sectors and lap times are even more closer but everyone pretty much has the same reference points so time/speed differentials are not so big around you, therefore less incidents.
The best thing starting in sport mode is to start out qualifying front row atleast and winning from the start to get into the A and A+ lobbies asap, then you can enjoy actual cleaner racing. The absolute worst is trundling along at the back or fighting mid pack in the lower lobbies. It all starts with practice. Practice more than you race. Practice until you can qualify at the front of E, D, C and B. I truly believe anyone can do this.

I thought that races with higher ranked give you more point thats why its not halfway point? It's similar to the Point System in the Cup Ranking, This is then somehow calculated with an average over many races AND your level. You can see sometimes that A+ Ranked player ranked 4th looses DR in a mainly A Lobby, vice versa an A in an A+ Lobby can gain even in 10th, whereas in an even lobby 9th and worse loses DR. So you can also fall faster in absolute points the higher you are.

Not a take on skill or philosophy, but the in-game rating is, much like many other modern games, a facade rating, there is a true MMR that is hidden from the end user which is accessible by different means. This is what the matchmaking relies on, my guess is the rating symbols were decided by the marketing people where they probably found a sweet zone with testing or focus groups to maximize retention.

It doesn't mean anything. My times according to the ranking boards on tracks put me at a top B driver. But I'm on the lower level of C because I don't have the time or the desire to run the same Daily Races every week because its a roll of the dice what lobby you get dumped in. There is a lot of trash in GT7 and they will ram and wreck you and ruin your Races. I strive to keep a S rating but its been nuked to B because GT7 penalty system will penalize you for getting wrecked and for contact EVEN if you don't initiate it. I have gotten 3 second penalties because I got rammed from the rear and cause me to ram someone else in the rear.
Honestly as soon as I can buy a PC I'm going to Iracing where this nonsense is dealt with by bans and suspensions.
The only joy I find from GT7 are the lap time challenges and the variety of cars and the SOPHY Races.
Daily Races are ok but I NEVER expect a good outcome.

I upgraded to B and then had to take some time off from an injury. It would nice to upgrade to A but when I sign up for a race, all the As are qualifying a lot faster than I am so I know would not be competitive with As. It's not important to upgrade, it's important to be faster than the people you're racing. When I do a Lap Time Challenge, I'm usually in the top 5000. When I qualify for a race, I'm at best in the top 2000. Both of those numbers have to improve before I could expect to be at the top half of an A group race so B is where I belong.
But I disagree with part of your video. If you can outqualify everyone and drive away from the field in a race, you are doing well. If that race is full of A+ drivers then you definitely deserve your A+ rating. I get that A+ is a spectrum but you're still crushing the people the game puts in your races. As you keep getting more points, filling up that bar, the competition will keep getting harder and eventually you won't be qualifying at the front. Then you'll have other things to work on.
