Good stuff! I really like Pivot but I just can't get past the 157 rear end, the press fit BB and the biggest hurdle, the price. They really are amazing bikes though and I love their race team.
Press fit vs threaded BB is an interesting debate. I used to be in the threaded only camp with everyone else, but after hearing some of the reasons/benefits with a press fit BB, it may actually just be the better option. Sweet beard, btw.
I used to dream about a Firebird. I don't know what used to be so special about it, probably the looks (which it has in spades, it's a magnificently beautiful bike), but after getting my Stumpy Evo I struggle to have any interest in other bikes.
they space this hub no because of the stiffness it allows wider BB/cranks which clears space for the short chainstays pivot is known for. otherwise, there is not enough space for the chainring and 28 is more than enough unless you are a very aggressive rider (then why pick this bike?) or a very heavy dude
You don't think that is an access panel straight under the bottom bracket? For routing dropper posts, cables and so on? I doubt anyone would want to mount an accessory under there. I have a Switchblade, definitely a precision machine.
@@GuyKesTV the previous one (V4) also had UDH from 2023 to 2024. Before that it used Pivot’s proprietary hanger, 2020 to 2022. This model (5) is a new bike with longer reach and a little slacker.
That cover under the bottom bracket isn't an accessory mount. It's a cover that gives access to route the dropper cable. Best design I've ever seen.
Great review as always Guy! Thanks to your reviews, I bought my 2020 Tallboy 4. I still watch your review of that as I loved that test ride you did!

Great bike and review. although we are slightly biased🤟🏻
Nothing wrong with your old intro, bring it back!

Goofy 157 hub spacing for stiffness but only 28 spokes on rear wheel. Brilliant, Pivot.
@@trentvlak28 spoke wheels are definitely getting more common but it’s an odd move eh 🤷♂️

Not too worried about having a spare rear wheel. If I really wanted a spare I’d plan ahead just like anything else.
Is 157 super-boost mainly on pivot bikes?? I’ve not seen them on any other bikes yet..
@@scottbagley7513 it’s on Evil and Saracen too, but didn’t catch on with others
@@GuyKesTV thanks dude great review them pivots are lovely bikes
@@GuyKesTV DeVinci too
I don’t get the superboost hate. Had Pivots for a long time and I don’t see what the problem is. Oh and btw, no issues with PF BBs.
That’s good to hear. SuperBoost works great, but unfortunately it’s an outlier now so spares will eventually become an issue
no issues with PF BBs at all - what risks are you talking about. Rocky Mountain and Yeti have been using PF BBs for years w/o any issues
Yeti is threaded now.
@@ryangregohara yaap, due to demands. not because it's better - you got to adapt to the market
Oh one more thing, this is the newest model. Frame is different from the previous one although they look similar.
Yes I know, it’s got the UDH and it’s fractionally slacker

@@OscarHernandez-xx2je sorry, didn’t realise that, best amend the video!
So many better bikes for slight lower or same price. Boutique pivot prices, no thx!
