    Actually, there IS something interesting about the wither painting. You see, it ISN'T a portrait of the wither, but rather a painting of how to MAKE the wither. It doesn't feature the mob, it features the structure you create to make the mob; three wither skulls affixed on top of a soulsand "T". I'd bet a partial reason for its inclusion was so that players would be able to, if given enough time and curiosity, piece together how to summon the wither without needing to search online. I'd like to imagine that someone, somewhere, put this painting up in their base completely unaware about the wither's existence and decided to copy what the painting looked like to see if anything happened. That would just be so perfect...

    I think the main reason they added the wither painting was for people to discover how to create the wither, as I assume it wasn’t wildly known back then. Now, most people know how to create it, so It doesn’t serve too much purpose.

      there's nothing ingame for people to know that they have to place 3 wither skulls on top of a 't' shaped soul sand structure, so if you had the game but dont use the internet to learn stuff abt the game there would be no way for you to figure out how to make the Wither. So the painting was probably added to fix that.

    I think the wither painting was introduced for the players in order to know how to spawn it. If you look closely it's not the wither in the painting, it's four pieces of soul sand with 3 wither skull above it. This way a player with absolutely zero knowledge about this game can wonder if that paninting had a meaning, try to replicate it and spawn the boss. This is because unlike the ender dragon, the wither boss has no arena or dungeon, so it is much harder for a blind player to aknowledge its existance. The painting could be a hint left by Notch

Atari did something similar around the same time with the Atari XE Games System (which was just an Atari 8-bit computer, but as a games console). Hilariously, despite the C64 Games System being a commercial failure, Commodore would go on to make TWO MORE of their computers into home consoles over the course of the next few years, both to just as little success.

    There's quite a lot more things that you could have mentioned regarding paintings, for example the additions and changes in Alpha v1.1.1 (which made the spider much bigger in that one painting), the four unused paintings from Pocket Edition depicting the four classical elements, the fact that the Skull on Fire painting was added before its texture was resulting in the purple placeholder square texture being used for the painting when you placed it before Beta 1.3, and the fact that Kristoffer had actually responded to the discovery of the skull on fire painting's seed on Reddit.

    The Wither painting is interesting because if a new player has no idea the Wither exists, but places a painting and suddenly sees that one, the painting gives you a vague idea of how to summon a Wither (3 skulls atop a T-shape of soul sand). It's essentially an in-game tutorial, kind of like how underneath some Igloos is a tutorial on how to cure a Zombie Villager.

    As I see this only now, it would be interesting to have an equivalent to paintings that can be placed next to each other to make larger and customizable images with more detail than a full block for each pixel, similar to glazed terracotta. Maybe they could be made with a crafting recipe with a base block or item, like with maps, by adding 4 dyes in a 2x2 with it to apply them in each quadrant, 4 of those for 4x4, repeating the process for 8x8, and 16x16, optionally using dyes instead to fill in that corresponding quadrant, to get quite a substantial number of possibilities at each level being upwards of 2^1024, and that's assuming the dyes are the only colors to work with, possibly with directional placing for horizontal, vertical, and rotational adjustments if they're full blocks.

    I always found paintings really weird, like, you make the painting, then just place it and it randomly changes size and design? It's not really like anything else in the game and it doesn't make much sense either considering how other things in the game like banners were done. Perhaps in the archeology update unearthing things can give inspiration or something to craft with an empty painting to make a specific design, as like a cryptic trophy, I feel that would be much more interesting and rewarding than just getting a couple logs and wool. I'd rather have that than diamond blocks like the showed.

    • @littlechickeyhudak
      @littlechickeyhudak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      procedurally unlocked paintings would be awesome. Maybe players could only be able to place the original set to begin with, and then you have to find the wither painting in a bastion or fortress, and maybe you find a painting of a filled in end portal in a structure in the overworld to act as another hint (by "find" them, I mean see them placed on a wall which gives you the ability to have them appear when you place a painting), and then when you slay each boss you get a painting of them (similar to the idea of the end painting shown briefly in this video). Maybe you could also unlock paintings of desert and jungle temples, and witch huts, and woodland mansions, and ocean monuments, but you have to discover them first. There could even be biome paintings that unlock when you encounter their specific biome? Although I'm sure that would risk adding so many paintings that it dilutes the selection and makes it annoying to place the originals. In that case they should implement that one mod that just lets you pick the painting that shows up instead of waiting for rng to work out.

  • @humourlessjester3584

    I believe that the wither painting exists as a kind of hint to the player that such a mob exists. minecraft has a lot of in-game allusions to mechanics that aren't directly obvious. For example, the jungle temple showing the player how redstone works, or the dessert well serving as a tutorial for how infinite water sources are made. There's nothing in the game to show you how the wither is made, but you see the advancement tab to fight the wither, you see the red sandstone block of what the wither looks like and the painting of how the wither is made, you piece them together and hopefully that serves as your guide. Imo there should be a better way to show the existence of the wither to the player in-game than this but as of now that is what we have. Maybe in the fortress there's a chance to find a book and quill in a chest that contains a poem of the wither with clues to how it can be made? Maybe not, but it's a start.

    • @humourlessjester3584
      @humourlessjester3584 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@InventorZahran desert wells actually have five water source blocks in a cross shape. It shows another type of infinite water source and I think it's a better demonstration of it for new players because taking water from the sides will delete a water source but taking from the center refills it. It shows the player how two water blocks adjacent to one another form a new water source. And yes villages are also an example, but not as tutorial focused as the desert well imo.
