"Thank you for the lessons that I learned while John was sleeping"
I love this man so much. I've always loved his lyrics but sometimes they just hit that spot. this line just does it for me.

When I first listened to the Japanese version of The Empyrean, as always with headphones in the dark, I had to turn on the light directly after this line and could hardly fall asleep afterwards. That's how extreme this line flashed me. Insane.

@@adelante303 I know right? first time I heard it I had instant tears in my eyes at how intense it was.

Can I ask what it meant to you? At first I thought he was talking about himself, but he makes a lot of religious allusions throughout the album, now I’m thinking maybe it has something to do with John the Apostle and the book of Revelations

what i've noticed from listening to john is that the relation his fans feel to his music isn't because of his lyrics (for the most part) but it's created by the emotion & soul he delivers with his music....and we all obviously have emotion .lol

i think the the people who like this song are the only ones who listen to it. Because he lets his fans reach out to him instead of him reaching out to the fans.

all the songs from this magnificent album are PURE MASTERPIECES... not only this song, or One More of Me, or Unreachable or others. Every song from this album has it's own soul... For me it's like John is Jesus and God was steering his hands to make such fantastic piece of art. Long Live mr Frusciante, save us with your music from this cheap music world of Gaga, Bieber and other "Pop Stars"

This is pretty damn good, I can see why he left it out though. It's not the best, and lyrically it doesn't really fit into the album. He was trying to very much create a clear story...anyone interested should check his site, he's written some awesome stuff.

Are we really Firstname Lastname? If so, what were we before we were given a name?
Are we really our appearance and our habits? If so, what were we before we developed habits? Before we were born? When we were a single cell, or maybe even before that?
When do "we" come in to the picture of Firstname Lastname?

Hey, wow... that wasn't a cheap shot at Frusciante. I love all of his music with all my musical heart. i was just saying that im surprised his record company hasn't removed the tracks from The Empyrean yet, like they've removed all his other albums.

this song is about my looking into my heart and talking to him in his sleep. and god was telling me look man hes just a man, no different than you, yo uare at least as powerful as him yo ucan do anything, and he looked directly at me like i was in his dreams, look at the the end he talks about it

  • @J1971986B

Frush's solo work needs to be looked at in a different light to his writing in RHCP, it's has a stronger freeflowing feeling rather than the forced stadium anthems he writes in the band.
It's not just music for music's sake.
