Also, would never use the word “doodle” to describe your creations! They’re a work of art in my opinion. Doodles to me are when I’ve been on hold for far too long and trace and retrace my notes on a paper and draw lines and circles and that jazz. Haha! Lastly, perfection is boring! I used to struggle with this until I realized how much more fun it is to create without the stress of being perfect. As always, thanks for sharing!

I do something similar with letters to my kids. I have an A6 hobonichi that I use for those. So anytime I feel like writing to one of them (I have 3 kids), I just use the next available daily page and date it. It will go to them upon my passing- along with ALLLLLLLL my other journals and planners. I've designated my oldest daughter as the "journal keeper." She'll keep them all, but will make them available to her siblings upon request.
I always love watching your dailies for inspo! I write a whole ass page for each day and I keep falling behind. I feel like I need to be okay with just “doodling” the day or gluing something in! But I decided to go for a day free techo next year to give myself more flexibility.

I use the yearly pages to track the books that I read, I write the books I've read at the bottom of the page and TBR's in the top third of those months for TBR/notes regarding the books I've read or ordered from the library. I plan/memory keep on the weekly pages and I usually use the daily pages to keep track of my knitting and ceramic projects and ideas.

I changed to a papertess designs for 2025 because the weekly is more compressed and the dailies are undated for less pressure. I may miss the Hobonichi

What other TJ Kline books have you read? Did you read Bear, Otter and the Kid? Or the Tales from Verania books? Green Creek series? At First Sight series? He still might not be your cup of tea, but I ask because these books are all so, so different. Some are fantasy and some are real people/real life. He even has some young adult. They’re probably all MM. (Werewolves, drag queens, unicorns, super heroes, friends to lovers…There’s something for everyone! LOL)
This might go way too deep into this: I consider most of the drawings in your hobonchi to have a doodly style. They have this looseness and freedom you usually only see in doodles, because that is the only time most people allow themselves to have this kind of confidence to be that loose, where they do not pick apart every little line. However, I would not consider the finished pieces you did to be doodles. Instead they seem to be made up out of a bunch of small doodles like lines and cicles and squiggles that are arranged skillfully to form something that is larger than a doodle. And since it is way too late in my timezone to be awake I will throw this in as well: This leaves us with the question when does a line become a doodle and when does it transcend from that to become considered more than, to become art?
As a musician/ vocal music teacher, I'm judged all the time. I am even judged against my brother who is a clarinetist. So like a friend of mine said, "I keep my artwork sacred." Thiught that was a great quote.

I got mine from the Hobonichi website but many third parties sell them as well as Amazon if you don’t want to pay the shipping from Japan!

What other TJ Kline books have you read? Did you read Bear, Otter and the Kid? Or the Tales from Verania books? Green Creek series? At First Sight series? He still might not be your cup of tea, but I ask because these books are all so, so different. Some are fantasy and some are real people/real life. He even has some young adult. They’re probably all MM. (Werewolves, drag queens, unicorns, super heroes, friends to lovers…There’s something for everyone! LOL)

This might go way too deep into this: I consider most of the drawings in your hobonchi to have a doodly style. They have this looseness and freedom you usually only see in doodles, because that is the only time most people allow themselves to have this kind of confidence to be that loose, where they do not pick apart every little line. However, I would not consider the finished pieces you did to be doodles. Instead they seem to be made up out of a bunch of small doodles like lines and cicles and squiggles that are arranged skillfully to form something that is larger than a doodle. And since it is way too late in my timezone to be awake I will throw this in as well: This leaves us with the question when does a line become a doodle and when does it transcend from that to become considered more than, to become art?

As a musician/ vocal music teacher, I'm judged all the time. I am even judged against my brother who is a clarinetist. So like a friend of mine said, "I keep my artwork sacred." Thiught that was a great quote.
